They said it was an original new IP, and Star Wars is not an original BioWare IP (it belongs to Lucas Arts), so I can't imagine it would be a new KoTOR

EA didn't have the rights to Star Wars when they started working on it, and Casey Hudson has said it's a new universe they're making.
(Unless that's all misdirection and they reveal a next-gen Star Wars RPG at E3, which would totally blow my mind)
The author seems to have experience writing in... well... corporate IPs, she has previously written novels for Pathfinder

KOTOR 3 exists. It's the Jedi Knight storyline in SWTOR.
"The KOTOR team" Casey Hudson is talking about is also - as far as I know - the Mass Effect team. He's just expressing a certain sense of continuity, not implying any return to Star Wars.
