Not exactly, according to Gaider it can happen anywheres from 5-30 years after they become a warden, it also depends on many factors like age, health, willpower, their level of interaction with darkspawn and other stuff like that.

http://swooping-is-b...om/1286233.html

It varies quite a bit, I'm surprised mainly due to his age and that he's lasted this long as it is, also I can't really see him lasting another 5-20 years due to all of those factors listed above.

Lemme translate that from Writer into English.

The Calling happens at the speed of plot.

If they want him to have lasted long enough to appear in DAI, then he will have.  Simple as that.

Well, that new novel seemingly came out of nowhere. Looks like it's going to set up the darker side of the Wardens just in time for Inquisition.

^ That just seems like a convenient (and justifiable) way for the writers to have some breathing room in terms of when characters have their Calling. For something like supposedly-inevitable death, it's probably a wise move to introduce some flexibility into the timing so they don't contradict themselves later on or feel forced to kill someone off.

(Speaking of which, I have an awful feeling that the Warden companion will be close to their Calling, in Inquisition.)

I kinda think the same after reading this 'As the dark secrets buried in Isseyna's story unfold, Valya begins to question everything she thought she knew about the heroic Grey Wardens. . . '

I got bad feelings about them now.

Just now?  Play DAO as a character who absolutely does not want to join the Grey Wardens, and they come off as plenty dark already.  This is especially true for Human Noble.

Well, not just now. I mean...they've so many secrets. Maker knows what it can be...Like Corypheus for example.

Pretty much, I didn't really say anything about my personal preference on this or anything like that, just that I'm a little surprised that his body is holding out and that he's already lasted about 10 years already ( I don't mind him possibly being in DAI).

I just don't see him living after DAI ends and depending on how they handle it could be another great piece of writing if he goes down doing something heroic or something for the greater good or something else.

I agree with this aswell, and i'm thinking along the samelines as you in regards to our long rumoured grey warden companion nearing his calling for one last mission like a few characters they've done over the years.

On the positive side, it could be possible that Loghain or someone has recruited and joined him and he ditches the Grey Wardens to join the Inquisition.

Exactly! In my first playthrough,I was quite shocked when Duncan killed the knight and then the more I learned about what it takes to be a warden(nightmares, short lived, not able to have children etc...)They more darker it became...It's even worse than the night's watch, but hey no celibacy oaths at least.

I'd like to see that, because we never had the chance to see what the calling is exactly(I think there's something darker behind it as well),besides it will add an extra dose of drama(I love drama,I cannot lie).

Yeah, my human noble distrusted Duncan, esp after the dealio with the joining and everyone dying. Duncan seemed so shady. I still don't trust him...

and Duncan didn't even know all the crap the higher up Wardens hide to their members (some of Legacy codex entries were all about it a warden-commander complaining about it).

A new Twitter tool lets you look up people's #FirstTweet. @masseffect used theirs to troll our spelling. Thanks, guys http://bit.ly/1r1qn61

@dragonage And have you ever done it again since? You're welcome.

Catch myself saying stuff like "I may have time for a call before bug triage meet after sprint goal planning" and I feel like a real dev :)

I've never played ME so I'll pick 2 DA characters instead. Varric and Ogrhen, that way i'd get to listen to Varric tell stories and get drunk to pass the time. Of course, the downside is having to tell Ogrhen to stop trying to touch me.

Miranda Lawson - no discussions. Next on my "no words" list are Morrigan and Leliana.

Although hearing Miranda and Morrigan talk about abusive/controlling parents would be an agreeable way to pass a few hours.
