Sorry, y'all are off base. Standard American accent is from the Midwest. We might not have as distinct an accent here on the West Coast as, say, Boston, or one of the Carolinas, but we have our own twang and speech patterns.

As someone who lives in Illinois, this is what I've always heard. Not that I favor the accent or lack thereof, but I'm hoping it's Midwestern.Yeah, I dunno what people are talking about, saying the West Coast accent is a lack of one!
Maybe if you live on the West Coast, but for the rest of us 'States, the Midwestern accent is the accent-that-is-not-an-accent.

I would have liked a nice French accent (as spoken by an actual French person) but I guess none of the Inquisitor backgrounds has them being Orlesian.
We could still be Orlesian. It can be explained we come from a border area or have lived a long time in Ferelden like Aveline.
That's my hope at least. I just REALLY don't want to be Fereldan again ![]()

French accent is not an accent, it's badly spoken English.
Gimmick accents works in Saints row, but in Dragon age ? nah
Erm.. I wasn't speaking of a hokey accent. A French person can speak perfect English and still have an accent which identifies them as coming from France. That's like saying a Welsh accent isn't an accent because they're speaking English instead of Welsh. Or an American is speaking english poorly because they're doing so without sounding English.

Any chance we might see some Easter eggs for the Mass Effect universe in DAI? ME2 did it for DA...
Well, if we did something like that it wouldn't be very sporting to just tell people about it, would it?

I imagine that, speaking bluntly, there'd be a bit of backlash against the main character having a French accent, particularly when they're aiming for as broad an audience as possible. People have preconceived ideas about how fantasy characters should sound, and maybe it was better to play it safe.
I don't necessarily like that Anglo-American accents are so prevalent in everything, ever, but I can understand why caution would advise against using anything else for the main character.
I understand what you're saying. It just would have been nice to have an option of a nice sounding version instead of the over the top ones people expected.

Fair enough. I just hoped for a nice French accent that could have dispelled some of the hatred I've seen for it.

What iz sizz man saying about me Teeghaaaannn!!?
More like, "Who iz dis womahn, Teeeghaaaaaan!?" spat with much derision, but, yes, either way took me straight out of RPG-mode in caring about the plight of Redcliffe Village and its nightly undead manifestations to straight-up IRL laughing out loud and going, "What?"
Now, I should be the last person laughing at accents, as I am from the Southeastern USA, so... yeah, there you go. But my God...

I find it amusing that when asked if the Elf PC would speak with a Welsh accent he said "The accents for the PC will be either British or American".
Welsh is a British accent, so it didn't really answer the question
On that note, I'd love to see the reaction if the Inquisitor spoke with a glaswegian accent.
XD "Wait, I thought they said he'd be British???"
Ok, I admit that I MAY have teased some of my American friends about this very subject in the past.
Them: I love your British accent!
Me: Thank you! I also love your North American accent!
Them: ![]()
And then there were was the confusion I encountered when I mentioned "whales" ![]()

Yeah i remember the quote
I like to think I don't have an accent but when I speak to people they are like "You sound like you're from Manchester, UK!" I nearly tried out for that voice thing a bit back but Didn't think that accent would really work well xD and tbh I like the southern USA accent ^__^

Yeah, the accent is what held me back from even trying the "Take Your Place in the Inquisition" contest, too. I don't think I could even fake a British-sounding accent and, in reality, there IS no one, true British accent anyway... y'all have all those regional dialects, like we do, that I didn't even realize until I did a month's worth of college study abroad and got to hear it in action.
But yeah, even with the poor villager, sounding like this I don't think would fit into the "Dragon Age" theme, unfortunately. Not when it sounds like the conversation with the Inquisitor should start with a "How's your Mom and them?" and end with a "Y'all come back now, ya hear?"

I really hope they give the Grey Warden character an impenetrably thick Glasgow accent that literally nobody can understand without subtitles. Even the Inquisitor.
That would be hysterical. Because that is such a cool-sounding accent, but yeah, it's hard to comprehend that they are speaking English. Had a Scottish buddy I played ME3 MP with a lot back in the day, and I always felt like a jerk having to ask him to repeat himself at LEAST three times every time he said something. ![]()

I honestly liked the accent of the Liverpool area the best. No idea what you call it, other than that was the area I also spent the most time in, too, so that probably made me biased.
Everyone was SO NICE all the time!
Although being called a Yank was weird, since you don't call a Southerner a Yank. Them's fightin' words to us.
Yanks are from the Northeast USA. ![]()

To be a bit more specific, their claim that we travel to Nevarra and the Free Marches was grossly exaggerated. In that, no, we don't actually go there at all.

Uh oh, what did OXM do?
They said we could go to Nevarra and the Free Marches. We cannot.
(They also said that Morrigan would be a companion, but we already knew that was wrong. Their scoop about the jar of bees was 100% correct, so I guess there's a silver lining.)

Its generally referred to as "Scouser" accent, I live close enough that I can unintentionally drift into the accent with certain words
