Didn't Mark Darrah say in his post that it was something like 15 months back in August?

They started "working on it" (not sure to what extent) once they finished DA2

To add to that, Jennifer Hepler hinted in an interview back in June 2012 that they wrapped up pre-production phase and moved on production. She didn't say which project, but we can surely make a good guess. ^_^

Which is what makes it unknowable at this point. They were also doing DLC and the scrapped expansion for DA2.

I personally have been working on the project since about September 2011, though the project itself had some level of preproduction and prototyping (as well as some other game ideas) for some time before that.

So Mr. Schumacher, I have a question. One, are you related in any way to Joel Schumacher? :P And, what does a Technical QA Analyst do exactly on a game? You play the game and look for bugs or the such?

Thanks for your time! :)

I am not related to the Butcher of Batman!  (although I did enjoy Falling Down).

As "Tech QA" I look more at systems behind the scenes, rather than assess the game content outright.  I have a technical background, and spend most of my time testing and regressing features within the Frostbite toolset (FrostEd) that we have added to the game.  My focus has typically been with "Digital Acting" which is everything from writing the conversations, to the tools for placing them in game and the CinDesign workflows to stage and animate the conversations.

As such I spend very little time in the "actual" game.  Most of my game time is spent in controlled test levels that help me test specific features.

"Frosting" would have been a more clever name for the toolset.

Wow, I remember those one-liners and I really hope the guy that thought them up got demoted to the mail room and far, far away from future marketing. I suppose we'll see when the push comes in.

Just took a gander at Mark Darrah's blog that announced DA3 (Sept 2012) and he said: "We have been working on it in some way for about two years now with the bulk of our efforts ramping up about 18 months ago."

Why do I hear an evil "Mwahahaha" when I read this post ? ;)

If we take that this thread was started 5 months ago (30 x 5) and divide that by the number of pages that had created since Chris posted last (91) and times that by the number of pages needed to reach at least page 100 (8) then we can conclude it will be a minumim of 26.37 days until we hear any news.  Technically thats the minimm but lets just assume that Chris Priestly vague and totally joking reference is serious so lets say the promised annoucment date is March 3!

Seeing as this is a pretty bad joke at our ability to clutch onto every little crumb of information I expect this date to be reported on IGN, Kotaku etc with the next hour or so as fact.

*Sigh* Or you know, maybe he learned from the experience and is a better marketer for it.

But does it confirm IT?

/joke

Given how many months ago Chris knew roughly when they were going to start talking about the game, I'd guess the marketing campaign timeline has already been worked out far in advance by EA's Powers That Be. He was pretty definitive about the reveal being in the northern spring back then, and I don't think that's likely to change any time soon.

It does mean a pretty truncated marketing period, but there might be all sorts of reasons for that.

- it would be awesome if the main protagonist of DA3 was Morrigan's child!

@Mike_Laidlaw: Unless she didn’t have one, of course. ;)

-hat's the only issue, haha. But boy would that be wild! The story of Aedan and Morrigan is seriously magnificent!

@Mike_Laidlaw: Glad you enjoyed it. We -might- maybe possibly be not-quite done with Morrigan’s story. Perhaps.

No it would't ...Morrigan's child is a male . Not all of us would like to be forced to play as a male.

I have a quick question: where did the term northern spring come from? Is it a part of the Canadian dialect of English?

I am just a bit confused because I would simply say early or mid or late spring not use directional words. I think it is interesting and just am curious as to where that term comes from.

Northern hemisphere spring. I'm using it for convenience's sake (I'm in the southern hemisphere, where it'll be autumn at that time) and the way North America defines spring is weird and scary.

For example, apparently in Canada/USA "spring" starts from March 20ish, whereas in my country (Australia) our seasons start from the first day of the month (so March 1 for autumn).

Since I'm not actually familiar with Canada's insane seasons I thought I'd clarify for those BSNers not in the northern hemisphere (or who use different dates). I guess it's possible that Chris meant a really broad definition of spring, but who knows!

Fortunately Canada/USA Spring starts at the same time as it does in the UK... or in England at least, I'm not sure about Ireland/Scotland/Wales since their weather is usually pretty crazy.

People may know David Gaider has relatively recently started a Tumblr, and even though this is technically the Twitter thread some of the posts there are a really frank and fascinating look at the game design process. I'd definitely recommend reading them to get an insight into the challenges and thought processes of game design that devs might not necessarily share that often.

This one today, about Cole from Asunder, struck me as very... portentous. I don't think we saw the last of him in the novel, and I'm really interested in his future role in the universe as a whole. Hopefully one day David can share the origins of the character, writers talking about that kind of thing is always really interesting.

Was the passage on his tumblr a possible dialogue option in DA 3 between Cole and the protagonist?

I didn't even notice it was a new dialogue involving Cole . :s....
I think he will be in DA3 , probably a companion , now for the dialogue ...
He mentions Rhys and Evangeline , like talking to himself...would be strange in DA3 .
Maybe a passage of a short story for new characters?
Or just something written in the inspiration of the moment , who knows?

I thought it was from Asunder, or maybe my brain is playing tricks?

It could've just been David writing a scene on the fly...

I believe the piece in Italics, right under the graphic, was from Asunder but the rest wasn't in there IIRC. I don't think there was every a point where Cole was standing in a darkened chantry talking to someone and he didn't become seperated from Rhys and Evangeline until the end of the novel. The first (and last) we saw of him after his seperation from them was when he was holding a knife to First Seeker Lambert's throat.

Indeed, good memory! It is funny how we're all chomping at the bit when the game was only announced about four months ago. Definitely feels longer. But I feel more hints coming soon... ten pages is nothing! LOL
