Here's a small slice at some entries from #TakeYourPlaceDAI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTTascwYD4Q … Thank you for continuing to delight us! @dragonage

The one thing I took from this is that literally nobody knows how to pronounce seneschal.

Maybe even Bioware don't know and they've just been making it up for the last six years or so.

Must say I'm not sad to see that this thread has finally slowed down a little, the last couple of days were hell when I had to catch up with 20 new pages all the time.

I'm kinda interested in knowing what it was Gaider and Luke were talking about that made Gaider go all "1MMoms WON'T LIKE THAT!", Luke mentioned Gays, so I assume that was what they were talkling about, but Bioware have had gay romance options in since at least the first Mass Effect, so I don't see why it'd be so much fuss now...

Perhaps we'll see something more unusual in DA:I than in previous Bioware games?

I think the posts were more directed to the ideas that professional voice actors would enter into something like this for their own personal benefits, and I'd be inclined to agree that the large term implications of this would be limited.  If a professional voice actor applied for something like this, they'd possibly be disappointed if it was for any other reason than fun IMO.

Possibly. I still find such comments to be shortsighted, though, even in the case of professional actors, especially those at the beginning. They need every little bit of VO work they can get, not only for practice and experience but to also get their name out there. If they're too proud to accept/audition for small roles, they'll have a hard time getting work and having people offering the work know who they are. Every little bit helps on a resume at the beginning, IMO. Even if you don't get anything out of it, materially speaking.

.... I'm really interested in DA's demons lore wise and I wouldn't have thought they'd be capable of being gay. (Or sexual at all.)

Food for thought.

(But, don't worry. Not taking it as truth. It was probably a throw away line. :P)

Desire demons now come in the naked dude variety, as well? :D

Well presumably desire demons would take a male shape when influencing gay men so that may make them gay demons :P

Yeah, I thought that was weird considering it was in Awakening loads.

I bet loads of people just saw "AAA gaming auditions! Money! Dis mah time to shine ho's! WHEEEE!" and never even played the games. Still if I was going to do a voice over I'd make sure I could at least pronounce the role I'm auditioning for.

Aw! How about new comanion, Bio? You have forgotten about us?

If you're talking about the Follower Fridays, the devs specified in the first post i the FF thread that they'd announce the character to be featured that month near the end of the month (probably the third week).

:D They're already pretty darn close to being nude.

Edit: Oh sorry. I read "naked dude" as "nude." Yes. Presumably as nearly nude as the female variety.

 :

I always saw desire demons as not being interested in sex, per se, but feeding off it. (That could be completely wrong.)

But setting a flag for whichever gender the protagonist is romancing and then giving them that gender desire demon is an interesting idea. I wonder if it's that.

Actually, if you look at all the instances desire demons appear in the game they are very rarely connected to any kind of sexual desire. That is why their appearance always bothered me. It's probably the most obvious example of sexualization of women in the DA franchise (far more than Isabela IMO), not to mention using the misogynistic trope of the "evil demon seductress". I do not know how much a male counterpart would serve to rectify that (or perhaps "balance" is the better word, if "balance" in these matters is even possible, or desirable, pardon the pun), but it might be amusing to see. Not sure.

But more to the point, I doubt Luke meant anything concrete by this quote. He was probably letting off some steam at encountering (yet another) post, comment, talkback or what-have-you, complaining on how "gay" DA2 was, and how every guy there was trying to get into his m!Hawke's pants.

I tend to let things go... but calling the seductress trope misogynistic is the same thing as calling warriors insane for using their swords. Completely ridiculous.

I fail to see the resemblance in that analogy.

This is probably it. I wasn't around BSN at all when DA2 was the hot topic on the forums, so I didn't notice if the devs got a looot of feedback about how "gay" the game was (although, I can imagine what it must have looked like, especially with all those 15yo who only bought the game because they thought it'd be a macho action game after watching the CGI trailer), and I've probably reached the point where I really start overanalyzing every single thing the devs say, DA:I-related or not, subconsciously thinking that they might be trying to send us hidden messages about the game. I suppose this is what frequenting this thread does to some after a while.

My issue with the Desire demons is that they are the only demons who are given a "gender", and throwing the lust-based ones a sexy female appearance is both an incredibly old cliche and not very creative at all. This is only made worse by the fact that they always appear in that form, even to people who are clearly not attracted to women at all.

Some sort of androgynous yet still clearly attractive by human standards form would have worked far better in my opinion, both to highlight that they represent desire and that they are not at all human themselves.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
@Mike_Laidlaw Elf, Mage, and Female Qunari are still premium unlocks through Chargen DLC though, right?

@Mike_Laidlaw (also NO for heaven's sake, we wouldn't actually do that; even if we wanted to, those wouldn't work TECHNICALLY as DLC)

@Mike_Laidlaw (...since apparently I need to be very clear about these things.)

Too late Patrick you've just cause Mike to receive fifty tweets about how BioWare has been consumed by EA blah, blah, blah. I'll just say that those people are idiots seriously purchasing a talent is as old as talents itself in gaming.

And Mike thanks for putting up with those monkeys and still answering our questions.

I get that Desire Demons likely just pick a form they *think* will appeal to their victim, but it's quite funny when 100% of Desire Demons read the character wrong 100% of the time.

Desire Demon: Oh heck! There's a mortal in the next room - I should quickly pick a form to appeal to them.
*becomes creepy naked woman-thing*
Desire Demon: "Behold mortal! I am here to... tempt you."
Me (the player): "... Um... You do realise I'm a straight female?"
Desire Demon: "Oh, well, this is awkward..."
Desire Demon: "Perhaps I can offer you a new set of shoes instead?"

Although in terms of the Tweet, I think it was just a joke. It seems like Demons don't really have a sexuality. They seem more interested in killing things than sleeping with them :)

I kind of agree on the sex part, especially since they're called  Desire  demons, not Lust demons. I'm actually trying to remember instances of these demons offering sex and I'm left with only one example - when you confront the demon that possessed Connor. Other than that, they offered power (i.e. Lady Johanne) or other things that humans desired (i.e. a ship for Isabela and Wesley for Aveline).

As far as their appearance goes, it never really bothered me. They look alien enough (what with their tails, horns and smoke coming out of their heads ) that they still made a little uncomfortable when I encountered them (in the sense that these things are not human and I should get away from them fast).

F'sure!

So I was thinking about entering into the contest, but I was worried that Thedas wouldn't have any sort of Yat-German hybrid accented people, so I wussed out.

I should have gone through it, but my missus told me

1) Dragon age setting doesn't accommodate broad australian accents.

2) I'm completely tone deaf and don't understand how annoying I sound.

Such support!

Yeah, I was annoyed by the choice of shape for desire demons ever since we first saw them in a trailer before DA:O came out.  They really ought to have taken a page from The Sandman's book in regards to how the Endless Desire was handled:  http://sandman.wikia.com/wiki/Desire  Way more intriguing, in my opinion, and an androgynous appearance would have made sense, given that the DA desire demons aren't overtly sexual most of the time.

But hey, if the tweet is actually an indication of desire demons who do their job more effectively in DA:I, when they're trying to tempt straight female or gay male Inquisitors, that'll be interesting.
