What? That's not even remotely true.

Actually, David Gaider said Martin was one of his primary influences, at least in terms of the type of fantasy he wanted to write, and the tone of the storyteling.

I can't find the exact quote(s), but there's a mention of it here.

Man! I was hoping it'd be sooner. Hopefully well see some more vague pictures from Darrah this time so maybe it will be worth waiting.

Do you have a link to these vague pictures by any chance? Also, could someone please explain what a Sprint Review Day is?

That's pretty thin and doesn't go anywhere near justifying the quote in that half-assed article. Does it seem at all likely that a man who was too lazy to google the villain of the game dug through articles from 5-6 years ago to find the head writer's influences?

The George Martin influences are quite widely mentioned in all sorts of articles over the years.

I mean, I'd guess if someone was half paying attention to the development of Origins all those years ago, the GRRM invocation would've been something they'd have heard of - even if it was only being used as a marketing line or hype tool.

Certainly, Ray Muzayka and Mike seem to have talked that creative influence up as a guide to DA's style of fantasy - and David even said it influenced his writing of Origins.

But did you actually read the articles? They're not touting A Song of Ice and Fire as their influence, but merely something that gave them inspiration. Gaider doesn't even sound like he actually loved the substance of the books.
I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the writer of this new article knows next to nothing about Dragon Age and just looked at reviews and maybe forum comments to write the thing. I'd be willing to bet he saw a picture of Duncan next to a mention of Loghain and assumed Duncan was Loghain.

http://twitter.com/B...6295168/photo/1  there's one to get you started, the rest you can find on this thread. Also go a couple of pages back to find out what sprint review day is because right now I'm having a brain fart on how to explain it

Blair, he's also asking for a silent protagonist. :D But you guys are proving constantly that you can take a little crazy mixed in with otherwise sound feedback, so I guess I'll just say "thank you, sir" and move on.

We get it, it's the co-workers right? You ask for a stapler and they respond by sending you cryptic clues on twitter. You wonder where the loo is and they refer to their "show, don't tell" policy (and allude to a date in march when they might show you)...

^_^

Yeah I still haven't found that stapler, despite all the twitter clues.

Ha! Just take comfort in knowing that that stapler is shaping up to possibly, maybe be something really amazing.  Glad you're on the team.

Well I think it is more likely they just exaggerated, the person writing it was obviously familiar withDA2 although I wouldn't agree with all his statements, he obviously played it at least. He also seems to understand some elements from DA:O so I think he played the game. He makes some valid points, I loved DA2 playing it now, but  there were some parts of it that was difficult to deal with, exploding bodies when a spell specifically does that is one thing... Having two handers explode people seems the sort of trying to be gritty because blood is gritty and gruesome and it just isn't, much like Witcher put sex scenes just to be realistic and gritty and it just came off a bit ridiculous, instead of gritty and mature. I think if you ever put things in just to be gritty it loses any maturity it may have had. I just hope there won't be any fridged women. Horrible things happen to women in games just to make the protagonist react, not a plot point in and of itself, but just how poor protagonist who dealt with it. My problems with Witcher is there is too often the woman is being raped plot line, Geralt springs into action XD not gritty distasteful...but I got on a tangent. I think the person played the game

As I understand it, the development team works in chunks of time called Sprints. Each of the teams (so Cinematic Design, Audio, Combat, Customization, etc...) has specific goals they have to achieve (or try to, I guess) by the Spring Review day, which is where all or most of the developers crowd into one big room and spend all day presenting on what they've accomplished. I imagine the purpose is to maintain morale and make sure everybody is seeing the big picture, which includes what other teams were working on. I remember a developer (I think it was David Gaider) saying a long time ago before DA2 was out that it can be easy to get caught in the bubble of what you're working on and lose sight of the big picture. So I think Spring Review Day would be nice for that. But anyway, that's what it is.

Oh, and then a bunch of the developers start tweeting cryptic clues about DA3 to torture and delight us at the same time.

Thanks for the responses about Sprint Review day guys! I actually googled it as well and it looks like it's part of the Agile development process. Hopefully cryptic tweets about DA:I keep coming.

Huh, I guess 'vague' was an appropriate term after all. Looks like something magical though, so I'll take it. Thanks again!

It's code for Tali was just a tall, skinny volus?
