I just finished Masked Empire and it's really, really good.

 

Anyone wanting a new perspective on the Orlesian civil war and the elven rebellion before Inquisition should definitely pick it up.

 

There are also some fascinating new characters there.

 

I'm trying to decide whether or not to get it. If it really sets up for Inquisition, then I'll probably want to read it, but I'm on the fence about it right now.

It is... David Gaider also touched on this some time back.

 

Yes, Antiva is a fictionalized version of a medieval Italian city-state like Venice. It's not a perfect comparison by any means, but then none of the Thedas nations are meant to be. They're inspired by real-world history, but that's where it remains.

No, we did not use an Italian accent for Antiva.

And marioflag is half-right in that the original name for Antiva was Calabria. But only because we liked the sound of it. If there are any further similarities between the real Calabria and the Antiva that we have now it's purely coincidental.

Oh, God. I'm going to have to leave the forums to avoid the spoilers for Masked Empire. Whoever decided the UK shouldn't get the book until the 17th or whenever it is now, should be thrown into a pit of rabid nugs.

 

Someone spoiled the Maric reveal from the comics for me in a topic specifically about Asunder, not letting that happen again. Evil away!

Also, that last little bit in the epilogue was so mysterious that now I really hope Inquisition explains what happened. I have a feeling the book wants you to work out what's going on from all the hints people were dropping earlier on, but I'm dumb and need things spelled out in the simplest possible way
