NWN is set in the Forgotten Realms, which is the IP of Wizards of the Coast and their parent corporation - Hasbro (And BioWare already said the secret game is a new and original IP). Also, if I understand correctly, Atari US holds the rights to develop all D&D and FR related games, and since they are going through a rather lengthy bankruptcy process (during which they had to auction off a lot of their own IPs, and put Beamdog and Overhaul Games through seven hells with BGEE and BG2EE), I doubt we're going to see any more games in that franchise any time soon.

I'm not clear on all the details, which is why I put the caveat "if I understand correctly". A few months ago, Atari put an injunction against Beamdog and Overhaul Games which forbade them from selling BGEE, continue the development of the (at the time) not yet published BG2EE, or even provide support or patches for the existing game (A patch that was supposed to go out was delayed nearly 2 months because of that). Beamdog asked WoTC and Hasbro to intercede at the time, but WoTC only stated that they were sympathetic , but could not interfere. Now, for obvious reasons Overhaul and Beamdog couldn't share the details about what was going on, but there were plenty of other people who knew stuff and leaked them all over the net and in the BGEE forum. What I described was what I understood of the situation, it may not be accurate, but I believe it to be basically true.
