And that "fact" is based on what, exactly? What real evidence do you have, other paranoia and the firmly held belief that "EA is Bad", that this has actually happened? Mr, Gaider stated that was not the case (in a rather lengthy and detailed post on his blog) other BioWare people have made similar statements. What real evidence do you have that would show them to be liars?

You mean other then the fact that Seb missing means you lose alot of content on the chantry? Or the fact that not only was Javik in the leaked script, but by changing a code in the ini you can unlock him except for his mission and weapon(which is the only thing the dlc gives) That is crap, and people have the right to complain about that and thankfully Bioware has wisen up. If you want to treat us as the bad guys for ruining your fun then so be it, just go buy a Capcom game.

Yeah. There is nothing for anyone to complain about regarding DA:I companions. We will get them all for the price of the base game.

I fully trust Bioware to give us an awesome game... but the thing is that there is a lot of ideas and creativity in those heads at Bioware HQ and I have the bad feeling that maybe the "no companion DLC" is due to: "lets make cheap DLC that do not involve a lot of additional character creation and sell them for 14,99"

If you don't think the DLC is worth the price, don't buy it.

Since we're literally months if not years away from that DLC even being announced, let alone released, why on Earth are you worrying about it now? Let them make it, and decide then.

Also, the idea that DLC with no new characters is "cheap" is RIDICULOUS and ill-informed. Citadel was probably the most expensive DLC they've ever done, and it didn't have a single new character.

I would appreciate it if you stayed out of my pocket and didn't order me to buy or not buy whatever you think I should or should not. That is really none of your business. Furthermore, I don't see how the chantry content in the Sebastian DLC (if it even exists, I have not seen any significant content of the sort) would serve as evidence to support your claim. The game is perfectly playable without Sebastian. I have played it so myself, and a few of my friends have never bothered purchasing the DLC, and  do not feel they were cheated out of content. People feel they have the right to complain about everything and anything, even when their argument has no leg to stand on. As is the case with your complaint. I will take BioWare's reasoned explanation over your unsupported claims any day.

It's not that I'm not willing to take your word for it, it was just that the last post by David Gaider made it sound, to me, like "no DLC character" just meant "we're going to create less characters". I was just making comments based on what he said. I didn't mean to come across as accusing you of lying about it, if it seemed like that. I would just be disappointed if we lost a character like Shale in the future over the issue, like he said we would have without DLC in Origins. I'm willing to totally accept that nobody got cut and no concepts were heavily in the works for this project to fill that gap this time.

Going forward, it means that characters that cut will stay cut, yes.  Assuming we stick with this forever and beyond DAI.

What I mean by "you'll have to take my word for it" was more "you'll never know if something was cut and never added later in DLC," not that I felt accused of lying.

Situations like Shale, however, would not happen for future games.  And yes, I agree with you that this is unfortunate because that content, by its nature of being more integrated into the whole game, is innately more interesting for me.

Thank you for the clarification, I understand the situation now.

I guess I'll just hope that the team will decide to bring back the first day DLC characters if another situation like Shale arises and let it go with situations like the Inquisition time extension. I hope it'll just be handled on a case by case basis. In that way, maybe both sides can feel as though compromise is being made. Ideally, less people would feel like they were always getting an "incomplete" product by design and others wouldn't feel they'd never get the opportunity to see a great character that almost didn't make the cut, like Shale, again.

But I'll let the topic go after this post, since it's been dragging on a bit.

I'm gonna choose to be optimistic here and say the 'no new character DLC' thing just means that Bioware is putting more of their time and effort into making the characters that ALREADY exist in the game, the players interactions with them, and the game itself, better.

Allan, do you think you could ask the relevant members of the team if post launch integration is a feasible endeavor for future projects? Or perhaps a clarification on what it is about integrated character content that makes it difficult to implement post launch, because I can't for the life of me figure out why this is such an issue? As an artist, I'm not particularly knowledgeable about programming/engine limitations, but I was the best out of the artists in terms of understanding programming principles in my obligatory coding class, so if a technical explanation was available, I'd appreciate it, as it would help me more fully understand this limitation.

The problem lies with a misunderstanding on how game development works.

1. They're adding multiplayer! That means they are cutting things out of the single player? Nope. It means the Publisher is alloting extra funds for the Developer for the sole purpose of putting in multiplayer. Those funds would not have been made available, period, without multiplayer being approved.

2. Day One DLC means I am paying for an unfinished game! Games, like this graphic novel I am polishing, have a thing called deadlines. Publishers don't like it when developers or authors miss their deadlines. Publishers are concerned about the business side of things because they have to be. People have to make a living. Just like you do. Day One DLC does not mean the main game was somehow short changed or unfinished. It means they finished the game and had just enough time to squeaze in some cut out ideas back into the main game. It's like getting a deleted scene in a collector's edition of a movie.

This all comes from my observations as a journalist who covered games years ago and as a former film student. I would love for someone at Bioware to really write an indepth article on this topic if they havent already. I think the main thing causing frustration is a clear lack of understanding how a game is made.

Ok, back to twitter threads. Main that new screen shot is gorgeous!

@Mike_Laidlaw, does that image mean that we'll have 4 slots for rings? maybe 8, if the Inquisitor has both hands? pic.twitter.com/umH9aBxqK7

@user An astute observation, but it's pretty clear only one of them is enchanted, so I wouldn't necessarily get my hopes up.

@BioMarkDarrah @Cameron_Lee @Mike_Laidlaw Just curious..how much time has passed from the end of da2 to the beginning of da:I?

@user@cameron_lee @Mike_Laidlaw just a bit from the outer narrative frame. Travel time.
