Frostbite 2? Really?

I'm really sceptical about how they are going to use the Frostbite 2 engine. What's even scarier is that EA seems to be slapping it on every game possible. What are your thoughts of DA3 using Frostbite 2?

I'm scared that my PC can't handle the graphics, otherwise i'm cool with it only if it stays Dragon age like combat...

I was initially put off by the use of Frostbite 2, but the engine can do some amazing stuff. I can't wait to see what BioWare do with it.

As soon as an RPG developer talks about engine you know that the game will have little content. Good RPGs with cutting edge graphics (technically, not art desing) - does that even exist?

I hope they go further into stylized art direction, instead of trying to do realism-like graphics.

Yeah, it really sucks that they are using an amazing engine with great graphics. How can using Frostbite be a bad thing? Other than the possible issue of system requirements, I think this is great news!

CD Projekt RED and The Witcher 2 disagree.

Doesn't affect me as I have no idea what it is or what other games have used it.

I honestly didn't like BioWare game engines much.
ME: Everything (specially faces) seem to have been made painting.
ME2: Everything seems to be made of paper.
ME3: Everything seems to be made of plastic
DAO: Everything seems to be made of wax.
DAII: Everything seems to be made of paper again.

Well, I know for certain that unless the engine is optimized to kingdom come, my old laptop won't be able to handle it.

BUT then again, I'll be getting a completely new PC sooner or later this year or at the start of the next and I doubt the game will be out until then, so I'm all game.

As for the engine itself. It is more than capable to do some great things with. Facial expressions can be more detailed, emotional reactions more subtle and all that bravado.
So, until I get some stuff to judge the thing on, I'll be staying hopeful, but reserve judgement.

I don't care what engine they use, as long as they don't re-use maps and take their time with the game to take advantage of whatever engine.

Frostbite 2 is an engine and engine only. A game's art design is not dictated by it's engine.

I expect DA3's graphics to be similar to DA2's.

Everyone's gotta complain about something. I'm not very familiar with frostbite, but after having done some research it seems like the graphics are beautiful. :)

It also has really terrible gameplay IMO

But aside from that if they can integrate the old playstyle from DA:O/DA2 into Frostbite 2 I am all for this.

Looks like nobody in this thread told you about The Witcher 2.

Shall I?

Also this.

Frostbite 2 will be powering the game. It won't determine what the game looks like.

But what it does do is a lot of simulation work.

It makes sense, EA has an awesome inhouse engine, why not use it? And as said before, engine =/= art design.

A new engine was long overdo. If anything, this actually makes me hopeful that DA3 will be better.

They should be using CryEngine 3. That would be amazing.

They are pretty much the same feature wise, it would be nonsensical to pay a license having the same in-house.

DA3 eyecandy will depend on the platforms they aim for, not the engine.
