The Frostbite2 engine is insanely powerful. I'm so happy BioWare is using it. Battlefield3 and MOH both use it and those games look gorgeous. I can't wait to see what the Dragon Age universe looks like with it.

As long as they're moving away from the Unreal Engine. Apparently the way they've worked with it for the Dragon Age series, people's video cards (mine's included) seem to reach "critical mass" when playing for prolonged periods of time.

So, it's finally happened: Bioware are making a FPS.

Looks like you missed Mass Effect 2 / 3.

I know they actually are TPS, but meh...

As soon as an RPG developer talks about engine you know that the game will have little content. Good RPGs with cutting edge graphics (technically, not art desing) - does that even exist?

IDK, personally, I wish that Bethesda would start talking about using a new engine,  the one that got used for Elder Scrolls IV & V, Fallout 3 and NV  always feels like it's falling apart at the seams.

Think of it in terms of "beautiful graphics and physics", not as an FPS engine per se. I've seen what they are doing with it for DA3 and I think you guys are in for a treat. When the time comes that is!

They already did.

Also, no.

They should be using CryEngine 3. That would be amazing.

They are pretty much the same feature wise, it would be nonsensical to pay a license having the same in-house.

DA3 eyecandy will depend on the platforms they aim for, not the engine.

Absolutely true. DA3's eyecandy strengths will be based off of the platforms and not the engine.

I honestly didn't like BioWare game engines much.
ME: Everything (specially faces) seem to have been made painting.
ME2: Everything seems to be made of paper.
ME3: Everything seems to be made of plastic
DAO: Everything seems to be made of wax.
DAII: Everything seems to be made of paper again.

ME1 is the one that looks like everything is plastic.

Assuming they can translate good combat and RPG systems to it I see no problem. DA tech has been pretty outdated from the start so I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out.

So you never shot a gun in ME1?

Wonder if we will be able to destroy our environments! That would be crazy, or an ogre pummeling a house tearing it to shreds!

I find this news worrying. An anonymous medical researcher has told me of an ongoing study suggesting that when a computer develops a game using a high quality engine, the computer slowly degrades, releasing toxins into the air that kill neuron's in the brain's rightside hemisphere. This reduces the victim's capacity for creative thought, and is especially devastating to writers. If the game is written in the same building that the artwork is developed, the game will turn into a brainless shoot-em-up.

You are actually "rolling dices" when you press the trigger in ME.

The Witcher 2 says hello.

Not a RPG but rather an interactive game though. But from what i've seen it looks to be up there with the Mass Effect series in terms of quality and player input.

Hopefully FB2 will be more optimized for DAIII on the PC than it was for Battlefield 3.

My PC exceeds the recommended requirements for BF3 and the game is sluggish even on low settings.

But it's a new engine that also has to be adapted to the specifics of RPGs. That takes time. Not to mention getting a good grasp at the tech. I'm concerned if late 2013 is enough with engine change.

My judgment of the game is not affected at all by the quality of the graphics. As long as the ability to roleplay in the game is high i will be satisfied.
