In order for DA3 to have the same production time as DA2, it would have to be releasing....right now, this month.  The time right now since DA2 is the time between DA:O (not including Awakenings) and DA2.

Are you agreeing with me or not?

Either way, what you're saying isn't making the sinking feeling in my gut go away.

Sorry, went back and edited, yes I'm agreeing with you.  But I'm also saying DA3 will have a longer development cycle than DA2...DA3 will still have a short development cycle, but at least it will be within the boundaries of least acceptable time allowed.  DA2 was a rush job through and through.

What will be interesting is to see what consoles it will be released on. There has been a lot of speculation that the next Xbox is also coming "late 2013."

If it's Q4 of 2013 then it should be roughly a 2 1/2 years of development. Much better than what DA2 got.

Then again they are working with a completely new engine, have likely had to asess the many criticisms of DA2, and thus will be redesigning the combat system and likely other systems as well. Eh, who knows how it will go...

Well, the best thing to form judgement off of will be the game when we can actually get a look at gameplay.

I'm thinking it might be delayed to March 2014. The holidays are always busy with Call of Duty and Halo and whatnot. There's a lot of competition

4 years is hardly a quick development time...

Try three and a bit, if it's Q4. Since it's already been in development for 2 years.

You people realize that games don't need an extra long devolpment time to be good right?

You're absolutely right. Majora's Mask is evidence of this, and Duke Nukem Forever is evidence of extended development time not resulting in a quality game. Still, many do attribute a game's quality directly to the time it spent being developed. And people also blame the weaknesses and shortcomings of DA2 largely on its short development time. Which I think was about ~2 years, but I don't remember the specifics.

Yeah, 2 1/2 years is more than enough time to make an excellent game.

It all depends on what they are attempting to do with DA3, something we know very little about as of yet even including the leak. With DA2 their development time/resources didn't match their ambitions, there is no reason to believe that will happen again this time.

I was thinking we would get an early 2014 release (and still could if it slips) but late 2013 is a nice chunk of dev time as well. Can't wait to start hearing more about the game.

Depends on the dev. More time is always welcomed.

The industry standard for the length and quality of the typical BioWare game is at least 2-3 years development time.  BioWare's biggest competitors have similar or longer development times.  This is not something we just pull out of thin air.

Duke Nukem Forever was the best game ever.

No, HL2 was.

I imagine it will be for current consoles. There was a lot of complaints about DA2 being rushed so I don't think they will want to put DA3 on a console that they are unfamiliar with - they should know the capabilities of 360 and PS3 well enough by now to do everything they want to do on those consoles.

Also i'm assuming the new consoles will be backwards compatible to current generation so it's better for them to make a brilliant current gen game rather than a bad next gen game, Xbox and PS3 still have plenty of life left in them.

Well ignoring the epic failure that is  DNF and the vaporware that is HL3 Skyrim had a development time of 6 years but didn't stop it from being broken on release.

Good luck BioWare. The fact that EA seems to recognize (at least a bit) what's important to the fans as well as the late 2013 release date (almost 3 years should allow you to make a good game, not outstanding but good) warrants some cautious optimism.

Maybe not but a short development time all but guarantees the game will be rushed out the door and be sub-par... Just look at DA2 and ME3...

That is true. But they are already passed their development time. In the end DA3:I will have the development time of the two put together. If not more

I'd be surprised if they actually make that deadline, I wouldn't expect a release earlier than March/April 2014. And I wouldn't mind waiting until 2015 as long as they release a finished product.

This IS EA that's publishing it... Also, I still don't believe that stuff about a 'two year production so far'. DA2 was only released March of 2011, that had a production of LESS than 2 years. Considering DA2 was also supposed to get an expansion pack... Doesn't seem Bioware's style to plan that far ahead, especially given DA;O wasn't even planned to be a triology either.

Therefore, I'm sticking with my gut feeling that it's had just over a year of production.

I think they've said they've been working on it as of now for 3 years. By late 2013 they've actually been working on it for a relatively long time. Also don't forget that it is very possible that it could be delayed, at least a little.
