Don't know if this is still read or not but I just finished a playthrough of both games so here goes:
1. Feel
If possible, it would be good for DAI to move away from the more OTT ‘cartoony’
feel of DAII, creatures like the darkspawn looked completely unintimidating and
it didn’t really fit with the epic feel of the Dragon Age series. Style is
definitely good and the changes to the elves and other races weren’t bad, but
would be nice to see the series get grittier again. Hopefully the use of
Frostbite 3 is a sign of this. And no more exploding enemies.
2. Central Antagonist
There needs to be a central conflict or antagonist driving the
plot forwards. DAII was really cool in experimenting with story structure and
following one person’s story, however, it often felt a bit lost without a
central antagonist, especially compared to Origins which had the constant threat
of the Blight and Archdemon as well as a more human enemy in Loghain. It doesn’t
need to be a ‘save the world’ plot but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a
central something/someone to be fighting against.
3. Gameplay/Story Consistency
A major point, it is very strange in such a deep world such
as Thedas for gameplay options to conflict with lore and the story. I’m mainly
pointing at playing an apostate mage in DAII which, apart from in some scripted
situations, no one seemed to care about which felt quite disjointed with the
plot of Templars vs mages. Another is the randomly spawning waves of enemies,
which really felt strange and broke immersion as well as somewhat negating
tactical play. I’m sure I had more examples but can’t think of them now…
4. Companions
I doubt there’s much to worry about here as Bioware consistently come up
with interesting characters. Would be nice to see some return from previous
games though (especially Leliana and maybe Cassandra with the Inquisition
theme), really looking forwards to new and interesting characters. Oh and they
should speak up more during missions.
5. Continuity
If any do come back, please don’t pull an Anders and turn them into a
completely different character, it takes away part of the point of the
character returning. I know there was a plot reason for his change but there should
be consistency with previous games. It would also be nice to find out more
about some of the plot lines that disappeared in DAII (ie the god-baby,
Morrigan and the now teased disappearance of Hawke and the Warden) even if
these plots aren’t completely answered it would be good for them to be
developed a bit rather than feeling forgotten.
Hoping at least some of these are true
