Five Things Dragon Age 3 Needs to Learn From Its Predecesors

UGH. A DA2 hater what a surprise! And homophobic too. No Mr. article writer you don't get "gay cooties" just because your character LI is bi, grow up and join the 21st century.

1 - One returning companion would be comforting
2 - A strong, central conflict; we don't need too many different problems
3 - Bring back the party camp; companions don't need their own homes
4 - Companion customization. DAII lacked this to an insulting level
5 - Multiplayer should be kept completely separate from singleplayer. Please, no ME3 Galaxy at War garbage.
These five points are also very well thought out.
Thanks

Cassandra finds Hawke two weeks after end of DA2, talks him into being the Inquisitor. Companions can be; Cassandra, Morrigan, Morrigan's child, Varric, any of the old Companions.
More rewards in containers, kill Boss and only a few coins are rewarded, hate that one.
No reruns of course.
Able to turn off the blood and gore.

It is not the "21st century" to be bisexual. It is completely ridiculous to assume every character would be interested in the player's character, regardless of gender. Part of making characters believable is giving them the ability to say no. As in Cassandra Pentaghast saying "No, I'm not interested in you as a LI, female Inquisitor!" This does not mean Mr. Tassi is homophobic; it means he isn't foolish enough to think every character should bend to the desires of the player.

I like having choices matter but let it just affect DA3 and leave the other 2 games in the past.

* No forced companions - I hated Merrill from the moment she was introduced and I couldn't stand the fact that I couldn't tell her to just leave.

* Assuming DA3 is about mage v templar I want the choice to follow either one.

* More story less combat

* Allow me to gear up my companions like in DA:O

* Give me some more Tallis please

1. Returning characters that mention their relationship with the Warden and Hawke. More specifically, I would love to see Fenris in DA3.
2. A party-camp like place where I can level up and talk to my party.
3. New Game +
4. More conversations, at any time, and spaced out throughout the entire game (in DA:O I almost had all possible convos with Alistair by the end of Lothering). More romantic convos too, please! :)
5. Lots of party banter! LOVE DA party banter!

Can I add one more? A happy and cohesive end.

1. about 40 hours of gameplay per playthrough with...
2. ... good pacing throughout all of it
3. diverse companion skills and talents that make them unique in combat
4. a game ending (doesn't have to be a conclusion to the whole greater story) that is interesting enough to make me replay it, and does not sour the taste of the rest of the game
5. Combat pacing somewhere between DAO and DA2

1. A cohesive character driven story. (Without time skips. I'm not inherently opposed to the idea but I think DA2 has decidedly soured me on the idea of them attempting it again.) Think BG2 rather than DA2 please.

2. Decisions made throughout the game have a tangible effect on the ending. Even if it's only DA:O grade of altering the support you get fighting and a few cut scenes at the end, it would be a major improvement over DA2 and ME3.

3. Locations, locations, locations. If I have to play another game comprising of a single rather drab city and a few recycled dungeon/woodland set pieces I'll... well I'll probably not play it.

4. Companions have a tangible effect on events occurring around you rather than just handing out quests. Even just an increase in party reactions, but events like your members party turning on you at the ashes in DA:O are much preferred. However: Just because a companion  happens to have an interesting reaction to an event is not a good reason to require their use. Characterisation works better when it flows naturally with player choice.

5. A measured nod towards the more realistic and tactical combat of DA:O. Use of the the words "awesome" and "button" in the same sentence will result in me ignoring the marketing as much as is humanly possible. That said the increased pace of combat in DA2 could be nice at times. The Golden Mean, maybe?

Minor requests:

Keep the marketing realistic. I'd say a fair percentage of the hype backlash to DA2 came from the game being overhyped. Things like comparing the city of Kirkwall to BG2's Athkatla seem particularly egregious in retrospect.

As a personal note, I'd like to be able to play them game without using the Origin program. I know this isn't likely Bioware's jurisdiction, but I hate that program. If nothing else it reminds me of the decline of the Ultima series.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something here...

I can see myself agreeing with most of these.  I did however  enjoyed the  combat of Dragon age 2 alot . class combos and a faster paced combat was nice, though i can see the point about wanting  a more realistic combat . I think the fast paced combat suited the rogue class more than the warrior / mage.

3. The option for arcade-style combo moves for people who play via console. Tactics can also be an option, especially for those hardcore PC gamers. I think both should be in the game.

Being a 'console gamer' has absolutely nothing to do with not liking tactical combat. Way to perpetuate a stupid stereotype. Bioware already made a game like that, it's called Dragon Age 2, you've heard of it I take it? If you like to punish your thumbs during combat that's fine, but don't rope all us console players in with you.

You don't say?
Regardless, that you dislike tactical thinking has zero percent to do with the fact you play on console. That is your preference, not a 'console players' preference.

I play on console and I LOVE tactics. Absolutely love them.

Romances: No more cut to black at the start of the kiss. Jeez, Bio it been five years since that Mass Effect incident, let it go!

Tone down the "AWESOMENESS" of DA2, I personally love it but ever other fan hates it, and since I want this series to continue, please listen to those jerks wise critics.

DLC bonus items, weapons, etc: NO. JUST, NO. You don't need to make us like something 5000 times to get an item, in fact no Day one DLC and NO DLC ALREADY ON THE DISC! That just make everyone angry and you REALLY don't want to make anyone angry.

um...I guess just make the graphics pretty (a hard task at this point), and make the PC version like Origins, because I thought PC players gotten the short end of the stick.

There is somethint to be said for an unrequited love interest...i.e. that the dialogue is there for the player to attempt, but I agree with you, not every character should be available to any player, be it based on physiological sex, in game decisions, or some other variable.

1. An optional clothing layer that overwrites the look of armor (I was never fond of the bulky style armor and preferred the more form fitting ones like the Warden armor from the DA2 Legacy DLC). You could buy the clothes at a tailor or something. A totally cosmectic thing that has no effects on your stats. But the clothes would have to be something an adventurer would wear not some impractical dress or fancy outfit (I always felt envyous of my DA2 companions walking around in their sleek outfits). Also more character creation options.

2.
Race selection. I missed being an elf (also city of origin choice would be nice too but I think that just getting into too much detail...depending on where you come from would change your accent and maybe some of your views of the world when discussing certain topics with people). Being a Kossith would be great too.

3.
Less brown...kirkwall was so brown. I love the look of the Mark of the Assassin DLC. It was so lush and beautiful.

4.
Party banter...I love hearing my companions talking while we walk around but I would love it even more if my character was to join in on the conversation...I feel so left out. Also being able to talk more with your companions at their "home". And while I'm talking about the converations...drop the converations choice of DA2. I really didn't like that whole good, bad, sarcastic choice thing. It felt dumbed down.

5.
Let me tell the story. I dont want the story to be told to me...also a really good story to play out would be fantastic. Make my choices matter in the story.

There are more things I'd like to see in DA3 but these 5 rank near the top of my list

1) Both Morrigan and the Warden. If possible, even a storyline that brings the two together again. Make either one a permanent group member, with finding the other as the personal quest or something? The Warden seems most awesome for this purpose: import your own Warden as a squadmate! People HAVE been asking for the ability to do that. If the Warden died, replace it with that captured Warden from DA:O, Riordan.

2) FULL nudity Not frontal, but still full. So you don't even need to develop "the bits". Lovescenes can still fade-out to leave the rest up for imagination, but DON'T let us wake up after babymaking activities wearing underwear! If something breaks immersion from what just went on, then THAT certainly does. You don't put on your undies between making love and going to sleep. If it's cold, you put on pyjamas, NOT skimpy underwear. Even less a BRA! Just don't make a full frontal shot on cinematics, no need for that really. But don't break immersion either.

3) Custom Tattoo options. It's a single player game, so I don't think we need to worry about players making improper tattoos and confronting other players with them during play. Maybe in a Multi Player component, so it could be more restricted there, but for single player, I don't think it really matters much. Maybe add the option for players to add more tattoos over time as well during the game.

4) I'd actually like to suggest custom clothes and armor design as well. All kinds of variations: pants, robes, chestpieces, loincloths. Some players like metal-kini's, others don't, most actually prefer something inbetween. Simply seperate functionality from visuals, and let players decide for themselves what they do with it. If a player prefers a full armor look with his or her stats, he can get it, but if someone wants a Princess Leia look with those exact same stats, then that is possible too: the player decides the appearance him/her self. Bioware could actually expand on this, and adjust NPC's appearance to the the appearance of the player: a more risque dressed player would encounter more risque dressed enemies, a full armoured player will encounter more overly dressed enemies. Funny enough, this does not need to have any impact on the game: seperation of stats from visuals!

5) Party banter! It's awesome!

Show character developement, both physically and mentally.  If any long periods of time pass over the course of the game, we should see our characters begin to be affeacted by that.  For example, if we start our main character with a youthful face, short hair, and a humorous attitude and then ten years pass and we lose evryone we cared about, iI'd like to see some aging, hair growth, and psychological changes to his or her personality.

I've noticed that most people don't think of stuff like this...either that or for some reason they can't do it.

Huh?

"Also, gay romance is obviously fine, but they need to resist the need to make loads of characters “switch hitters,” as it doesn’t seem terribly plausible that nearly everyone in my party is bisexual. I don’t need to be able to hook-up with every single person I’m fighting with, and if that’s the case, the game kind of devolves into a weird mess of slash fiction that seems out of place for the universe."

At exactly no point does the article reference "gay cooties" in any regard. He notes that having every love interest be bisexual is a decided oddity and out of place in the setting.

Whether you agree or disagree with the opinion, I would request you don't throw terms like "homophobe" around without good reason.

Ah, darn yes. Well, any Grey Warden would suffice for replacement really, but some cameo is always nice if available.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...

For some reason I find the idea of being able to play a character with a severe emotional/mental imbalance/disorder incredibly interesting. Malkavians in "Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines" are a good example of what I'm thinking, as is Max Payne (at least in the first two, haven't played the latest.) The female city elf origin from DA:O is also a good example, though it could have been delved into more deeply.
Remember the image of the elf bride in her blood-stained wedding dress with a dagger in her hand and a look on her face like she was already in freefall from over the edge? Priceless.

Also, I'll be looking for my Big Metal Unit.

1. Firstly a few words about the ending; It doesn't matter to me if it ends dramatically or heroically -this is your plot, your artistic vision- but it has to be a satisfying conclusion to the game, that's the most important point. This also means closure given to all story arcs and companions met through the game; what did they become? what are the consequences of my choices on the future? DA: Origins did it very well with just texts and slideshows. And no cliffhangers, please. Sorry to bring ME3 here but these were the major reasons that gave rise to such a controversy.

Other than that, I have a few other things I'd like to see but these will come as details compared to this:

2. Have your companions react and eventually confront you depending on the situation, based on the choices you make. It happened quite often in DA:O and added a lot to their characters. In ME it never happens as far as I remember and I want it in DA3.

3. Give the possibility to pause the game during cut-scenes, don't remember if it's possible in DA2, but I find it very useful, either when because your friend/mom/telephone/whatever needs you when you're in the middle of an important scene and you don't want to miss a single line of dialog, or simply so I can easily take screenshots whenever I want, assuming pausing doesn't fade the screen to black or something.

4. You know in Dragon Age there are a lot of items, blades, shields, daggers and armors that are useless to you because you already have better equipment but that you want to keep anyway because they are unique, or just look beautiful or else. All you can do is put it all in your house's chests. What about adding racks and mannequins on which you could expose any weapon/clothes/armor you want.

An example with the armory room in Assassin's Creed where are put all the weapons you get/buy in the game: http://images1.wikia...II-Armory_2.png

If the player can have some kind a big house/manor in DA3 we need to have a room like this.

5. I had something in mind but I don't remember -.- . Will edit eventually.

Of course DA2 and maybe DA:O characters coming back as cameos at the very least, choices that matters, party banter etc... but I'm sure you already took that into account.

Forgive my english already, and good luck. =)

1. Take their time on the story, plot, animation and est (already on it working for three years but won't mind waiting another year for a better game).
2. A world more shaped by some of your actions. I don't want to be god where ever decision matter, but I except some decision make a huge difference from the original and now game play. For instance, saving a Templar order that are fighting would make the mages more hostile to you and vise versa. Not like DA 2 that doesn't matter and DAO where it matters mainly in the background and maybe anywhere else.
3. Gameplay need to be a hybrid of the fist and second game, mainly more powers, tactics depend more then button crunching, action is also fast pace, and most of all, no more wave of enemies. Their is a set enemy number hidden or in plain sight to kill and can be discovered by some PC or NPCs.
4. Wide world but not too free you can get wayward. I feel that Dragon Age does best if you have a wide variety of choices, but also a narrow path to remind your goal, even if it can be done in whatever order or time.
5. Origins like background. I truly like the background story, I may pick the same one most of the time, but it was my pick and not predetermined for me. I love for the full character customization.
Now then prediction of story: the veil is weakening due to the constant conflict that behind the scenes, powerful demons are pushing several factions to go to war. Conflicts include Mage Templar War, the Orlesian Civil War, the Dalish Rebellion (trying to claim land and such during the chaos), the resurgence of the Tiventer Imperium and the Qunari Invasion (taking advantage of the mages fighting else where). The PC character must travel the lands, ending conflicts by peace, or total annihilation of enemy forces. While revealing a plot from behind the scenes. End in a boss battle with demons and their thralls. That what I like to see and would match investigation they claim to happen.
