1 - Mage + pants = awesome
2 - Return of old companions in sidequest (but please, something more than just a brief dialogue)
3 - body costumization, more muscular or skinny characters,
4 - Arcane warrior fight style like hawke in the DA2 cinematic
5 - epilogue, like the OC or AW, i want to know the outcome of my decisions
and how these decisions will change Thedas

About armor and weapon concepts:
I think the restriction system implemented for DA2 was unfortunate. Armor restrictions determined by dexterity, cunning or magic doesn't make sense. Rogue armor restriction in DA:O (strength) made sense, because wearing armor always means supplemental weight. I sincerely could not understand how a strong warrior is not able to wear some leather armor or a mage robe. Restriction by race (dwarven armor being too small for humans or elves) sound proper. A good idea could be personalized armor (restricted to a character). A personalized, upgradable armor (by a smith who is able to learn new techniques from armor samples or to use new materials) could be very intriguing. Or maybe something like beneficial effects restricted to a specific class. A warrior is able to wear a robe, but will get nothing beneficial (wisdom, armor). Or the beneficial effect is stat-based - say a rogue armor increase dex by 10%.
The weapon system was ruined in DA2. I could understand a mage staff doing a specific elemental damage, but a sword or even a bow? DA:O had a better system (elemental damage added only by runes).
Also, bows are strength-based ranged weapons; crossbows, on the other hand are not. It could be a nice touch to implement the ranged ability differently for both rogues (using weaker fast bows) and warriors using stronger but slower bows. Talents could be different in this case, warrior talents damage oriented and the rogue ones based on high rate of fire.

1. A minor issue with the friendship/rivalry system: I found that some conversation options were blocked off based on whatever path my PC was on, sometimes forcing responses that weren't really true to the character. For example, I didn't understand why my Hawke didn't have the option to approve of Fenris' actions during the Hadriana encounter just because of their disagreements about mage liberation. I love that our companions are multifaceted characters and I want my PC to be able to recognize that.

2. A conversation log in the journal. It was nice to be able to poke through there to review the particular details of a quest if it had been a few days since I'd played.

3. More rumors!!! I would love to gossip endlessly with Bodahn again, especially with all of the political developments re: Ferelden/Orlais, the impending return of the Qunari (maybe?), and the Mage-Templar conflict. Nothing against Corff, he just didn't have any of the good dish.

4. Some discussion of the disappearance/whereabouts of the Warden/Hawke, especially with their former companions/love interests but also with other NPCs. It'd be a little weird if your Warden were king/queen or chancellor and nobody seemed concerned about his/her sudden disappearance.

5. More than one companion who could be built as a competent healer. I loved Anders, but would've liked the option to mix up my party a bit without playing a healer myself.

Things that bug me most in fantasy squad rpgs combat:
Enemies that run unscathed through the "line of warrors" to go straight for my main character: the mage. They should focus on dangerous characters but they shouldn't beam easily past the bulky fighters. God, I really hate that. Wasn't there a mechanism in BG that penalized such actions?

Most hated "features":
Lack of spotting loot / quest items. NO ONE wants to scan the screen pixel by pixel to find something important or of value.
Quest breaking bugs, nuff said.

Other annoying thing:
Awkward camera in combat gives me the creeps. It should not bounce around because a tree is in the way, instead make solid things transparent.

Cool things I saw:
The character introduction in DA 1 was the best I've ever seen. I played all possible combinations to see what stories were behind the characters and they were all top of the line.
I'm not really a fan of fantasy any more - just to much elves and orcs, but the setting in Skyrim pleased me.
What part of BG was that where you could design own characters and there were a couple of classes to pick from? I chose a dwarf mage killer and boy did he pay off. That lich over there? Wait, just a coupla seconds and I'll lend you my full attention! These won't have the background of the pre-designed characters and that might infringe with your plans of story-telling but I really liked that.

General opinion:
Story is important, see to some nice twists that surprise players.
You never know what the thing you pick up might be good for: Provide something for easy storage and tend to the inventory so it doesn't get cluttered. I stopped playing Witcher 1 because of that (and the combat system) and it disturbed me a bit in DA1.
The boundaries of the area we find ourselves in are often a bit awkward. This is mostly a non-issue in cities but in rural parts it becomes tricky.
I like crafting but if you feel your concept is somewhat half baked, skip it altogether and concentrate on the strengths.

Choices: Many people criticize they can't make choices that matter. I imagine the horror of implementing a growing permutation of different decisions: Probably impossible, so see to it that the outcome is plausible. Moral dilemmas are OK but pay attention to this stuff. Please do not include genocide as an option like the red choice in ME3. I find that very disturbing.

Only five? Well then like a lot of other posters said:

1) The return of origins/the ability to pick my race. Would love for more playable races (being a Kossith/Qunari would be AWESOME, but it would be hard to have a female Kossith PC from what I know of their society)

2) If they're going to bring the dialogue wheel back then make it more like how DA:O was. I don't want Nicey-nice answer, Sarcastic Quip, HAWKE ANGRY-HAWKE SMASH. :P
I really don't care if the character is voiced or not, but bring back my choices man.

3) Not as important but I would love LOVE more races for LI. Let me romance a dwarf, let me put the moves on a Kossith, let me make kissy faces at the werewolves (if there are any). Just...something. Elves and humans are nice and all but I want a little variety. I also liked/loved the all-bi option from DA2 but would be ok with having varied sexualities if it were more than just: bi dude/chick, straight dude/chick (I loved all the LI from DA:O, but I so so badly wanted to romance Alistair and Morrigan as the same gender, or even some of the non-romanceable NPCs). Like others have said, if maybe they could have straight-bi-gay of each gender (and maybe more than one) that'd be terrific too.

4) Would love to have something like the party banter/camp talks back from DA:O, and the way you talked with your party mates the way it was in DA:O. It was pretty boring to wait for people to have to/want to talk to me first before I could even initiate a conversation in DA2, when in DA:O I could talk to them whenever I wished, even if it was just to smooch my honey.

5) More varied environments/places to visit like the first game. Maybe more than the first game. I liked DA2 but hated walking through the same cave fifty times and being stuck in Kirkwall most of the time was fairly boring.

6) Would love if they could kind of alter the elves to somewhere between DA:O and DA2, as I know they said they wouldn't change it. DA2's elves worked for some (Merrill IMO just got cuter as I didn't like how she looked in DA:O) but for other it made them look just odd to me. (Why did Zevran have no eyebrows?! Agh!) But I also disliked how some of my other fave characters from DA:O changed (Alistair looked so different, and his hair color changed to like this orangey color or something when he was originally a dirty blond/brunette. Cullen's hair just got lighter, too much sun?)

7) They've already said they were doing it, but doesn't hurt to say, more customization. Not just hair, makeup, armor/clothes, etc. But it would be awesome if maybe we could alter our home base a bit (if we have one) or somehow make our home and teammates feel more like their ours.

I think Sylvius the Mad said it best though: "The ability to play my character the way I've designed him, even if that's not the way BioWare expects him to be played.

That's all. If I get that, DA3 is a triumphant return to greatness for BioWare."

Hmm...

This might not be a popular opinion, but I'd love for the protagonist to be fully voiced as in DAII and the Mass Effect games. I prefer to hear my character actually hold conversations with people rather than just standing there looking bored.

More Qunari. Even if they're not part of the main plot, I've quite enjoyed the slow drip of information about their culture and their motivations.

More Varric!

I've also done some thinking about the endings of DAII and ME3, and have come to the conclusion that a better sort of ending would be one in which you don't have a huge choice dropped on you in the game's final moments, but rather see the ending play out as the consequences of the choices you made throughout the game.

This! It bummed me out immensely that they did that to the weapons system in DA2 along with taking away some of my fave specializations. Also I think in DA:O some weapons did come with elemental stat bonuses that did damage that did not come from runes, but I'm not positive. I know for sure there were quite a few that added elemental resistances though.

Well I can currently only think of one thing I would desperately love to see and that would be a scene that actually brings me to tears (of sadness). It hasn't been done yet although The Dark Ritual ultimatum (Morrigan romance) when I first played DA:O brought me close as (I still can't look at the trophy for performing the DR without feeling a little dead inside)

Yeah but that would make too much sense.

Here are some things I would like to see in Dragon Age 3, in no particular order:

1) Dialogue for my PC that's tailored to each situation in an organic way and that allows for a broader range of emotions – not limited to "diplomatic" "aggressive" and "sarcastic."

2) Detailed and varied environments.

3) The ability for my character to kiss his or her love interest, or interact romantically in other ways, whenever I choose.

More generally, greater variety in terms of the way relationships with companions can progress – I'd like to see conversations with companions branch in ways that are tied to specific dialogue and story choices, rather than simply to a scale of friendship and/or rivalry.

4) Varied combat encounters that feel in sync with the setting and the story.

5) Elves with less exaggerated and more believable proportions.

I hadn't heard that – that's good news! (What can I say, I'm a sucker for romance :P)

Another thing I'd like to see is a greater variety of non-white characters, and options in character creation that allow us to create more realistic non-white characters.

1. More variety in love interests. Let not just have squad mates be love interest maybe i want to marry the shop keep or the bar maid. Just sayin.

2. Returning characters. I'd love to see shale come back not just as a playable character but find out what she's been doing and maybe help her regain her former self. I'd like to find out more about morrigan and the child. i want to know whats going on with isbela and hawke. Be nice to see oghren again and see how he's doing, would love to have lielianna and tallis back. Sten i have been wonder whats been going on with him. Be great to see.  I also want my warden back. i may not have the character files anymore but they exist in some form in my second file. Either have a mission to find the warden, have them be the main character, or have them be a party member.

3. Armor and weapon fordging. I liked getting the starfang  and the weapon from awakening (forgot it's name right now.) plus i liked wades superior dragon bone plate armor, but i want more like that in the game. More custiomization to the weapons and armor i am making. Maybe even a way to further power up the stock items.

4. More mabari choises. You showed us art work of a black mabari for the black imporium but sadly didnt deliever it. I was really hoping to see different colors and types of mabaris. it felt less personal with it when it was just the stock brown one. Be nice if we could customize our companion. I like the summoning ability of the dog better than having it as a stuck companion. Keep that please.

5. The changes to the world be present. I want to go back to orzamar an meet me warden's son he had with marty or what ever her name was. I wanna see the paragon statues and the new house. I wanna see how mages tower change from what i ddi. What's happened to vigils keep and amaranthine  since my visits there. What happened to loghan and such. Show me what my choices i made in the first two games have done, and not just as passing conversations. I wanna admire my work.

First, I will mention I haven't read all the way through this thread just yet!

But for me

1) Loved the Voiced Protagonist, and the story of 2 worked. But I'd love to see the Origions come back.

2) Returning Characters. Whether it be former NPC's (Can we say Sandal in your party!?) Returning Companions from DA:O or 2

3) I'd love to see more Lore and details added. Might be the only one. But with the name, I'm hoping we get to learn more about the actual history of the Chantry as opposed to the "official" history. Not to mention the Elven Gods and Dwarven History (I will learn your secrets Primeval Thaig!)

4) New Prestiges. Nothing against what we've seen. But new place, be nice to see some new abilities. Maybe something like the Orlisian Chevalier's for a fighter

5) PAYOFFS! Some of the decisions made in Origions and 2, seem like we won't see the full depth of till later. (God-baby anyone?)

1.  Please fix the combat.  It went from slow (DAO) to ridiculously fast (DA2).  Some middle ground would be nice.  It ruins immersion when the combat is like this, when your rogue is jumping around like a caffeinated cricket.  And dump the swarms of enemies from thin air.  Again, ruins immersion.

2.  Make sure that there is choice in romance options for straight females, i.e. more than one choice (don't pull a ME3 on us PLEASE).

3.  Please, please have one of those above-mentioned options be a more masculine manly option (even Sten-like).  I'm tired of all these sensitive and/or messed-up guys (Anders and Fenris, I am speaking to you!)  How about a well-adjusted manly-type person?

4.  Don't re-use so many maps, or spend A LOT more time disguising - I am spatially challenged and even I noticed the amount of re-using that was going on.  OR how about an open world?

5.  Keep the dialog wheel and the speaking protagonist.  I actually liked it.  And the more dialog options, the better, especially with LI and party companions.

Edit:  one last thing - please ditch the awful French accents from Orlais.  Ugh.

1) Dragon Age:Origins style stealth.  I want to be able to scout ahead and set up traps, so get rid of stealth as a combat-only skill. Speaking of combat-only...

2) Bring back non-combat skills and abilities. If I make a character that can't fight off a sickly goblin genlock but is Thedas' version of MacGuyver, then that's my decision and I'll deal with the consequences.

3) Non-combat solutions/more than one solution to quests. I realize that fighting inevibale sometimes, but it would be nice if the solution to d*mn near every problem wasn't "Go kill some guy/monster/animal". It'd be nice if some quests could only be solved by stealth, diplomacy, bribery or even solving puzzles or riddles.

4) Comedy. Yeah I know, "grim-dark, gritty fantasy", but I want some laughs, dagnabbit! And The Fade is the place to give them to me. We've seen spirits of justice and faith and demons of desire and pride, so why not spirits of absurdity, mirth, insanity *coughThe Jokercough* and trickery. Instead of having a Fade sequence that's trying to be all scary and creepy, make one that's like an episode of Adventure Time written by H.P. Lovecraft and directed by Terry Gilliam.

5) Less flashy combat animations: DA2 got combat speed aboot right, IIRC, (two-handed weapons didn't feel so freaking slooooow), but I thought the animations were over-the-top. I'd prefer if mages didn't look like a baton twirler while using thier staff and if rogues and warriors didn't look like they were trying out for a shonen anime.

1) Dwarves. Please. more dwarves. The culture, the story, the girls, the boys. More surfacer-related stories would be interesting. Dwarves are some of my favorite characters, perfect opportunity to bank on them with The Hobbit running around for the next three years. Dwarves will be on many people's minds.

2) Strategy. One major thing lacking in DA2 was strategy. No hack and slash game. DA:O was precious for many reasons, but from a strickly combat POV - Strategy is a wonderful experience. No more recycled dungeons. No more people jumping from the sky.

3) My Choices Count. I know it is difficult to keep with the 'ALL YOUR DECISIONS FROM DA:O AND DA2 ARE VALID', but you really don't have to stick with that formula. I don't care if I don't have to see my Hawke or my Warden or any of my bestie friends forever. The world is a very big world, politics and story are very complicating. But don't pull another situation where my choices specific to that game are completely thrown down the gutter and make absolutely no impact whatsoever. For example: Siding with the Mages was just the same as siding with the templars. Pathetic.

4) Start new. I know a lot of fans REALLY want to see their favorite characters ever, but I do think its time this game started fresh, pulling from a new pool of characters. Maybe a cameo or two, but it felt really gimmicky in DA2 with minor exceptions.

5) Deeper conversation wheel. It felt pretty dry in DA2, DA:O's giant conversation tree was more nuanced and enjoyable. I didn't need a talking protragonist to enjoy my game. I know that its likely you'll continue the talking protagonist, but if you do, don't limit the conversation style. It played really well before, it can play well again.

THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD KEEP DOING

1) Rival / Friend romance/friendships. Awesome idea

2) Banter outside of your company. Fantastic

3) Leaps through years. I found this engaging and interesting.

4) Varric. OMG, more Varric please? More so than any team member in DA:O and DA2. He's proven to be very engaging and it feels like there is so much more to learn about him.

5) Pretty much anything involving interaction / friendships / etc.

After I heard the presentation they gave at PAX I can only think they should skip the conversation wheel from DA II, or at least rework it (plentiful) cause that one was not so good, imo.

I want to know what my character is gonna say, I don't really like the conversation wheel in Mass Effect either, though it's better than DA II.

I rly like that they're going for a bigger more open world and I actual would like to get an entire new set of party members, maybe that old one's join you for a breif time on a quest or something like in mass effect, but I like to see a lot of new deep characters! =)

Things I want:
1: Ditch classes, people rarely fit into narrow roles why make the characters.
2: A more open world. Not a open world game but more open then recent bioware games.
3: More tactical combat.
4: More out of combat options and solutions to problems.
5: Mainly because it pisses me off that Skyrim ditched it but Spell Creation.
5: A real 5 since the last one is not going to happen. For the love of god make some new characters instead of bioware cliche #5.
