1) Different nationality.

I'm kind of fed up with Ferelden, and I remember being crushed in awakening when my Orlesian dwarf did not have a French accent! (OK, I'm joking about being crushed, but I was looking forward to my new accent.)

2) Races and/or Origins.
I get why Hawke had to be human, but I find playing human to be boring (since I do that every day.) I can understand if they don't put them in, if there's no real reason for elves or dwarves. Failing that, I'd like to chose my character's history. Hawke was just... boring after the first playthrough, while Origins is much more fun to replay. If they do include origins or races though, I'd like to see characters react to them a bit more.

3) Less unstable romances
I liked Fenris, Merril was OK, I'll always forgive Izzy for backstabbing me, and I am still an Anders-girl (and I don't really count Sebastian, though he does have issues). However, after DA2 I've had my fill of crazy, thanks. Some stable, dependable LIs who aren't off their rocker would be nice. Maybe it's my turn to be the crazy one, Bioware!
Speaking of LIs I'd like to see; Cullen, Varric, Cassandra.

4) I think this is a given from what I understand, however I'll say it anyway: I want at least some of my choices to have impact and consequences.
DA2 was a good story, however I don't think it made a good RPG game since nothing I did affected the plot at all. Really it would have been better as a book or something like that, IMO.

5) TravelingI don't want to be stuck in the one place for 7 years. By Act3 I was almost ready to burn Kirkwall down myself, I was so sick of looking at it. I'd like to see various cultures. Antiva, Orlais, Rivain, Tevinter (I really, really want to go there), Seheron, the Anderfells... you get the picture.

There's quite a bit more I could mention. On of the minor things I'd like is the opportunity to talk to Justice/Vengeance, and get his take on the Anders-merge and the Kirkwall mess. (Also in regards to the Anders-romance, if he's had any enlightenment as to what Oghren was talking about in Awakening)

I'd also like some insight on various pieces of lore, epsecially regarding the Fade, the Maker, Demons, Spirits, Abominations and Mages... and maybe a bit on the elves in regard to magic, since their race and history seem to go hand-in-hand with it (what with the racial bonuses to magic and willpower)

And I'd like to know how my Demon God Baby is growing up, I wonder what his first word was?

I support this! Let the Magic begins... :wizard:

1. Some of my old romances brought back like Morrigan and Isabela. Hopefully some new romances too, I hope Cassandra's in the next game. She was an interesting character imho. I understand if the warden never shows up again, but i'm hoping he or she makes a cameo apperance.

2. The ability to combine spells and creating new more potent spells like in origin.

3. Finish him!!! It was very satisfying finishing off your enemies with a decapatation or a final attack that ended them. Hopefully maybe a mage finisher too? Archers as well.

4. Talk to companions whenever you want, one on one. Sometimes interrupted by others during kiss scenes like in origins or the party banter in DA2 I won't lie DA2's banter was hilarious.

5. Witcher 2's art style or better. It isn't really relative but I think it'd make a fine edition with  DA3. You don't have to agree with me but man it would look awesome.

I have no doubts that DA3 will be a great game.

Please for the love of all that is DA no rehashed areas like in DA2. Visiting the same cave made the game very repetitive. I understand that DA2 had a short developement time, hopefully EA doesn't screw this up and push it out the door.

P.S. DA2 was a good game but origins was better overall you can't deny that.
Please bring back some of the old elements that worked from origins to DA3 and a few DA2 elements that made that game fun. I have better ideas that I can't think of atm. Very busy with stuff. I apologize if I don't comment back.

I'm playing through Baldur's Gate saga again (for the zillianth time) I'm up to the second game and noticed something that I didn't really before.
I'm taking different party members with me and doing stuff in a vastly different order than I used to (IE being evil as all hell!)
I noticed that there isn't just different party banter, but also in nearly every option I have to make - for example accepting Firkraags quest - My party members will all weigh in on the issue.
They won't just say their bit, but rather respond realistically to each other whilst adding their 2c.
I know that with voiced companions that you can't have as much dialogue and I really wish one day that I could play another game that had the first bits only voiced - or at least just important sentences, so as to allow for an immense volume of talk.
What I do hope to see though is more dialogue and realistic and independent choice making by party member characters - maybe even have party members leave you if you decide to do something that they wouldn't. Even if you could then go back and make amends or talk it through with them - so as not to have "wasted" design time on someone who people wouldn't get to experience (though this sort of design approach, whilst seemingly common lately from many forum posts I've read from different dev companies, is kind of counter-intuitive to a non-liniar game's goals).

I had good characters hate my character merely for siding with bodhi and doing some evil things. they left the party, instead of just going -50 approval and then carrying on as if nothing happened.

That's what I want to see. The companions feeling less like mindless followers who will repeat a bit of banter then make me do a couple of quests for them, and more like say Minsc, who will outright leave if i neglect to rescue dynahier in a reasonable timeframe.

Dunno how possible this all is, or If what i'm requesting is too vague, but it's my desired change, just to have other characters feel as though they aren't always gonna be there to give me my "money's worth" but rather I could royally F things up with them and end up missing out because of ME.
Maybe it's less hand-holding I want combined with more individual feeling companions?

1. Dialogue
-Push the limits of what we could do in both prior games. Let us have as wide a range as possible for the length and content of our conversations, both with companions and NPCs. Locking in a certain tone results in rather restrictive role-playing. I want to talk to and learn about my companions like in the first game, not as specific times as in DAII. (Also, more clarity when choosing what to say if we cannot see the whole sentence in the wheel/list. It's startling for something you thought was caring or funny to come out as the opposite.)

A secondary to this is the all-important party banter. I also loved how having different people in your party resulted in varying options during interactions. Varric backing you up when you spout nonsense or Bethany reassuring mages that you are mage-friendly made the party feel more alive.

2. Choices that Matter.
-Period. The world should be different for people who made different choices and should evolve differently as we play. (As a secondary to this, we should be in control of the ultimate outcome via our choices, such as how DA:O let us choose for the Warden to live or die. Power to the players, so to speak.)

3. No multiplayer.
- I gave the benefit of the doubt for ME3 and do not feel that it made a positive impact. I come to Dragon Age for single-player roleplaying. If I wanted multiplayer, I'd go elsewhere.

4. Story: Gray areas and emotion.
-Not every choice should be gray, but they all can't be clearly good or bad, either. And I love dark moments, such as the death of Hawke's mother, but there should be further development. If you're playing a character who indicates they are upset by this, then let it show and party members respond. If you're playing a character who wouldn't care about a turn of events, let us indicate that too. And the dark, heavy moments are what make the light, funny ones all the greater! Dragon Age needs both.

5. Lore.
-Maybe I'm a nerd, but I loves me some codex entries and item descriptions. I want to feel as immersed as possible. If you are going to include characters we haven't met or learned about in the game (such as from books and comics) then please, PLEASE add more to the game. If it impacts the game, it should be in the game. Knowledge is power! ^^

EDIT, Quoted for Truth:
Quill74Pen wrote...

There's a lot of things I'd like to see in
DA3, but I think a really important element is a "world-builder" option
before the game even starts, much like what the Mass Effect games had.

This
option would enable the player to "toggle on/off" many of the choices
made in DAO, DAA and DA2, and would be especially helpful for folks who
haven't played the previous DA games, or don't have the time to replay
the other DA entries in order to get the "perfect" world situation going
into DA3.

This may be rather complicated, but it would be a huge relief for me, as a player. Just a list of just about everything from the prior two games. A few clicks and your long-lost save is back, for example. I'm really dreading wading back into poor, buggy (yet awesome) Awakenings just to import that into DA2, much less onward into Inquisition.

Maybe there could be options for importing saves from Origins or Awakenings or 2 and then the ability to fill in whatever blanks are left? O.o

To be fair, any game that's compared to Baldur's Gate Trilogy is going to fall a thousand miles short of the mark. ;) (Except Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, but that's another story altogether)
But yes, I see your point, and it's so much easier to make your character your own when you're chosing what they say, too.

I had good characters hate my character merely for siding with bodhi and doing some evil things. they left the party, instead of just going -50 approval and then carrying on as if nothing happened.

"Feel the burning stare of my hamster, and change your ways!"

Of course the lack of approval system also makes it very hard to keep Viconia in my goodie-two-shoes party... but I guess it makes sense. It was also interesting how you could have two opposing characters; Viconia and Keldorn, Aerie and Korgan, Minsc and Edwin, Eldoth and Shar-teel, Khalid+Jaheira vs Xan+Montaron... e.t.c, would turn on each other.
If DA2 had been BG, Fenris and Anders would be fighting to the death by the end of Act 1.

I do think it can be justified, since if you're all stuck together working for a common goal (i.e. stopping the end of the friggin world) you've not much of a choice.

Dunno how possible this all is, or If what i'm requesting is too vague, but it's my desired change, just to have other characters feel as though they aren't always gonna be there to give me my "money's worth" but rather I could royally F things up with them and end up missing out because of ME.

1. More GOOD mage outfits.
2. Returning characters like Isabela and Oghren.
3. Mix of surface world and deep, complicated dungeons.
4. ABSOLUTELY NO MULTIPLAYER, cause working on that only draws out resources from much needed singleplayer, especially after good, but not that good DA II.
5. Lot of customization that makes sense (outfits, colors, good character editor in the beginning).

1) Companions interacting realistically with each other and you.
If something major happens to you or the party, your companions should have a reaction to it.  If you accept or complete a quest that has an impact on one of your friends, or which goes against their ideology, they should say something about it.  Basically, I want all your companions to behave more like real, independent people.  You've always been good at this BioWare -- better than any other studio I've run across.  But because you do it so well we always want more of it :)  It really helps us love characters more when they seem to have a degree of autonomy, and relationships with people other than our own character.  I loved how Isabela and Varric had pet names and an "older sibling" attitude towards the sweet but naive Merrill, or Isabela's antagonistic but ultimately friendly relationship with Aveline.  The banter is great, but if more of it could happen during dialogue sequences I would be even more thrilled.

2) Toolkit, please.
I can't say enough for how much this adds to the longevity of my interest in any game I really like.  Inevitably there are several mods which are "must haves" that inspire me to replay the game all on their own.  And the more involved in a game I stay, the more likely I am to care about DLC that comes out.

3) Individual style is good, but so is variety.
I have to say, I actually very much liked the fact that each character in DA2 was so individualized.  Having been able to suit up Isabela in plate armor, or equip Varric with a longbow or axe would have made no sense at all.  However, it is also a little frustrating to have loads of weapons and armor that you can't use but that your companions can't use either.  It makes acquiring equipment less exciting, and it is fun to customize your companions looks a bit.  Perhaps there is a nice middle ground somewhere?  Maybe each character could have 2 or 3 or more outfits that are unique to them, but which change depending on armor?  Of course this is a lot of modeling and texture assets to design, but it would uphold individuality without limiting customization so much.

4) Returning characters.
The thing is that many of us played DAO for a very long time, through an expansion, and multiple DLCs, and tons of mods.  We care about the world we set up, and the relationships we created.  We smiled when we saw Alistair and Zevran and laughed when Isabela flustered "Sister Nightingale".  We still wonder what became of our Warden when he stepped through the looking glass with Morrigan, or if we're still with our sweet Leliana when she isn't running errands for Val Royeaux.  Whether as companions or important cameos (preferably both), I believe it is important to have that common thread running from the beginning of the series throughout the sequels, not just in story but in those familiar faces and personalities that make these games so enjoyable.

5) Romance.
In part this goes along with #1.  This has been a strength for you guys since your very first games.  Keep it up.  I especially love when it crops up in party banter, or in DAO when you could be "affectionate" at will and have special dialogues with your romantic interest.  It made it feel a bit more like you had an ongoing relationship instead of just having one special dialogue or cutscene.  Making the romance have a bigger impact on dialogue and even plot events would also be great.

Really looking forward to the next DA installment!!

1. Morrigan and her child with the old god's soul.
The Child should be old enough after DA2. It would be interesting to know what Morrigan plans to do with him/her. Maybe there is another conflict with Morrigan and Flemeth?

2. More interactions with party members and better romances than in DA2.
It's a very important part of any game, because it has to touch me personally. If I "play" a romance, then it should at least feel like that. Furthermore I really like the conversations with my companions.

3. Different dungeons.
Even if it takes some time, I'd like so see many different dungeons and not the same dungeon again and again like in DA2.

4. Bright and friendly places.
I know that dark places are suitable for DA3 but it would be nice to have a counterpart, because there have to be nice places in Thedas, too. This could be combined with travelling quite well and would be good for romances or something.

5. Surprise me with something fantastic!

If you can win 95% of fights in a game by spamming A (or left click or whatever your default attack is) then your combat system is BROKEN.

DA2's combat was broken.

And boring.

DA3 needs a highly sensual battle system where every enemy in every battle requires thought, even if it is on a low level of "Oh, this enemy is weak to this attack."

Devs: Play your game now. Can you win a fight by just pressing A? If so, scrap it. Rework it. Stop wasting your time going in a direction that is fundementally broken.

Also I would like to see a mini-game were we command a vast legion of troops that I can send to their deaths like manly men and earn a medal for my bravey.

An active Main Character.

In both DA:O and DA2 the main character was rather passive (reacting to events) but in DA2 it was really frustrating sometimes. In DA2 everybody has a personal agenda, EXCEPT Hawke. A diplomatic Hawke has just two short moments of active role (the speeches about Evets Marauders and in Circle Harrowing chamber).

Hawke could have been made more involved in the story with minor changes, without any need to change the outcome. For instance, actively trying to create a noblemen party in Act3, talking with Cullen about protecting Bethany in the Circle, visiting Bethany and proposing an escape, warning Leandra about the murderer, actively helping Merrill to became Elder in Alienage). Even some actively decided sidequests (ex. changing the Bone Pit miners life). An involved, active MC greatly increases immersion.

Just an example about how it's possible to do this and maintain everything the same in DA2: suppose Hawke, after learning from the Arishok about their goal (recovering the relic) has an option to take the initiative and get rid of the qunari. A special dialogue option named "INITIATIVE"  would allow Hawke to persuade the Arishok accepting his/her help. Say the Arishok tell Hawke about the place of their wrecked ship. Hawke embarks in a personal quest to find the relic. But he/she learns about its location in the same time with Isabela, and way too late. The Arishok still attacks Kirkwall, kills Dumar and is defeated by Hawke. But the difference in terms of immersion and involvement is huge. Hawke is no longer just a pawn or errand boy for Dumar and the Arishok, but an active player.

Something similar available in DA3 will be just GREAT!

More "sane" party NPC's

In DA2, Anders, Fenris, Merrill, Sebastian were rather "extreme" unshakeable obsessed characters.
Hawke has little chance to alter their agenda, or obsession. In contrast, in DA:O the MC was able to change Alistair and Leliana.
Such an extreme character is intriguing, but so is a party NPC who is reasonable, and could be influenced/changed.

I also want Aveline to teach me how to defend myself against a man armed with a bannana!

And we can lay siege by sending in a giant wooden nug!

And the opportunity to paint ever inch of the Grand Cathedral of Val Royeux with "Templars go Home" (...well, technically, they are home, but something like that)

1 - Different races or at least different origins.

2 - Give us a more explicit purpose. I mean, in DA2 we (the players) kind of knew what we were heading to due to Cassandra and Varric's cutscenes, but Hawke didn't. Sometimes I felt like s/he was just being dragged by the other characters. And I didn't like having the option to refuse a quest, but having to do it anyway. If the completion of a quest is indispensable for the story, then give our character a very important reason to do it - and don't let us refuse it if we don't really have a choice.

3 - Archery specializations, please! I loved the improvement of archery abilities throughout the games, but I missed a specialization more focused on the archers.

4 - More importance of the Dalish in the main plot! I know the chances of being able to play as a Dalish again are nearly nonexistent, but I'd be happy if we could at least see more of them in the game. And, well... Alright, they were in DA2 during the whole game, but they didn't seem to make much of a difference. I think there are lots of interesting ways to explore them! Since they have different views on magic (and also different kinds of magic) I could see them having an important role on future conflicts! Not to mention the Eluvians, of course! Witch Hunt made it pretty clear they are going to be important and I'm dying to see how!

5 - Learning what happened to The Warden and Hawke. Actually, I'd be even more pleased to interefere in that. I've imagined something like being able to interact with the introduction of the game. During that part, when a bit of the past games is being told, we could make some choices (like in a dialog three) that would change what would be said about The Warden and Hawke. It could be simple things, with different choices depending on the Warden's origin, Hawke's class, end-game choices, LI's... Nothing very explicit, just some directions about what they've been doing. And to me it'd be okay if it didn't have a big influence in the main plot, considering how difficult it would be. I'd be happy with a side quest, NPC's lines or even a codex entry. I'm totally okay with playing a new protagonist, I just wished I could have a say in what happened to my older characters.
And I know that are probably tons of better ways to do that, I just thought I'd tell my idea anyway, since it's easier to express what I want with an example.

(Please, forgive any grammar mistakes! English isn't my first language, but I've been too excited about DA3 to keep my mouth shut, so I decided to write this anyway...)

1. Choices that make a difference to the story (i.e.DAO)
2. More development with companions and dialogue (especially in romances)
3. Ability to customize companions & our hero's race
4. Better written major quests (NEVER reuse maps. You must swear this on the big nothing)
5. STORY ABOVE ALL ELSE!!! I am willing to pay twice as much for STORY!!! (not that the story in DA2 wasn't amazing, but it was apparent that it had to work within a programming budget/timeline)

I would have a mental orgasm if Fenris made an appearance, but provide me with an equally worthy LI and I won't whine.

I've figured it out.  Bioware will make a frigg'n billion.

1)  Multiplayer.  Lots and lots of multiplayer.  By playing multiplayer, you get special Gigantic Awesome Wizard points you can use in the main game to help you get the best possible ending from the five hundred endings we'll no doubt be promised.

2)  Your romancable elf companion Talika Venanin Nordalish.  She has a terrible affliction and must wear special Dalish armor all the time.  Also her most powerful spell comes from wringing her hands, which calls up a pint-sized (superfun!) bronie-like companion, that's sassy and color-coordinated.  She's also a smidge awkward, which is so sexydorable.  Never show her face.  If you do, pick one randomly from Google images, search words "chicks otaku get off on".  Better yet, make her a day-one DLC.

3)  A golem that everyone thought was a sexy statue holding up a pillar that comes to life and has this great character arc where she learns to love.  Not just love, but love the sick loser with the bad attitude and disease that turns his bones into tree bark for no real reason.

4)  A badass dual-wielding rogue character, out gunning for you at the behest of The Illusionist Magi.  He does a lot of somersaults as one of his devastating attacks.

5) Jenna Marbles as the incredibly valuable bard that follows you and sings your praises as you adventure.  You can even have an incredibly easy-to-achieve romance with her that lasts approximately seven seconds.

6)  Make it a cross between Skyrim, the Witcher 2, and Diablo 3 because those three games are so totally relevant to every single discussion on BSN.

All joking aside... good luck, Bioware.  You are seriously gonna need it.

1. Explorable areas, with more interactive NPC's. i agree with the majority that being stuck in kirkwall was almost enough to /facedesk (however the story was compelling enough to hook you by act 2) less Linear and no repeated 'dungeons' (i dont know how many times we went down that hole in dark town, it was a sewer, a hideout, a cave... hrm.)

2. more from the Love interests! although im possibly going to be lynched for calling this fluff, its a part of bioware games that i have enjoyed immensely, but still felt like the interactions btwn LI's has always felt a bit lacking, it would be nice if there were a few more cut scenes that opened up, more dialogue and more ways to get around the fact that you are basically flirting with everyone (i.e. more jealous fights, more vicious dialogue if you put them in part together, and maybe more angst if you kick them to the curb) :P
i also find (i always play a female protagonist) that a lot of the Male LI's are quite... submissive.. Anders made me want to grate my face off sooooo sickly sweet, Kaiden (ME3 & 1) had NO backbone, it often feels like your character needs to assume the male role with them... the best ive seen was fenris, but still, he was still pretty flakey and a bit soppy, and ended up a bug softie when you snared him.. give us gamer girls a MAN bioware! :)

3. more dialogue between party members, DA2 was brilliant on companion dialogue when wandering around, but come act 3 they were all silent, like the scripting had just run out. for a completionist which likes to do EVERYTHING in game, it would be nice if there was enough content to go that extra 15 or so hours :P

4. dont skimp on the story, the one thing that gets you hooked on these RPG' is the amazing story, however i think that acts should double in size each iteration, act 2 is twice as long as act 1, and act 3 is twice as long as act 2.. it sometimes feels it is in reverse. dont make the mistake of creating a beautiful open world with a lot of stuff to do, but have all that stuff mean absolutely nothing, or have the main story finish in 3 hours of gameplay (a-la skyrim) the 'story' should be the hero.. otherwise you are just running around a cgi world for no reason.

5. i suppose this is going to go without saying, but upgraded graphics and facial movements. with new technology im sure this will come, but man sometimes it feels like watching a marionette show!

i have a lot of faith that Bioware will blow our socks off, they have a lot of confidence to build back in the player base, and im sure this will be the shining knight that will sweep us off our feet again (but hopefully now whine at us about his saddle sores)

If you can win 95% of fights in a game by spamming A (or left click or whatever your default attack is) then your combat system is BROKEN.

DA2's combat was broken.

Ever played it on Nightmare?

DAO's combat system was just as broken based on this....statement.
