Randoms: The ones that are on my friend list are offline most of the time I play.
Do you prefer random groups or regulars?

90% randoms. A lot of my origin frineds are americans, so I'm never online at the same time. Randoms are kind of fun anyway.

By far, I prefer playing with friends. We know how each other plays as well as tactics depending on the map or the faction... Not to mention that we are using mumble to communicate.
To say the truth, I sometimes find silver games with PUGs trickier than gold games with friends.

Sadly I don't have that many friends I could play with. I play with my brother mostly and we rock gold together with two randoms most of the time, and when I'm playing alone I play with PuG's. Mostly Gold here as well.
So I guess I like both, PuG's can be pretty entertaining if you happen to bump into very good players and then the entire team is hunting down the enemies on Gold instead of the other way around. Feels good

Derek, I'm going to tickle 1 puppy every hour until you disclose the release of the next patch.
You've been warned >
*sighs* Poor puppies.
I promise you will be informed as soon as there is something to announce. For us, that means, if there is anything coming, it has been approved on all fronts.
Cheers
Inform whoever made that NDA of the puppies suffering every hour that it is all his fault.
Maybe then he will change his mind.
I will add to that by tickling kittens every hour as well.

I like them both. I can´t say I prefer one over another as each one brings something else to the table. I like randoms because each game has its unique dynamics. And I like friends because games with them are more relaxed and often also really funny.
I think my ratio is something like 80% pugs and 20% friends.

On PC I almost always play with a friend of mine, and we either open it to public or play duos. On Xbox I play randoms most of the time since most of my old Xbox friends don't play ME3 MP anymore, but I've been adding a lot of new friends who I've met in MP that I play well with and/or have fun with, so it's been nice having those people to join up with some of the time.
I'm mostly a silver surfer on both platforms, but when I get my gear and weapon base leveled up a bit more I'm ready to graduate into more gold.

I run random lobbies all the time, only because making friends is pretty difficult without a text chat (on PC obviously). I make one or two with the mic chat but usually people don't respond/don't have sound. I think a text chat would greatly increase the enjoyment of this game for me personally, and probably bring the mp community closer.

Usually I play PUGs, one match per lobby unless it is a solid team -- then I'll do two or three. At one point, a couple weeks ago, I would have said I prefer friend's games, although now I've come to like (and respect) the challenge of PUGs.

Mostly public matches. I enjoy it when the plan doesn't go as planned! Though part of this, is because for some reason my friends and I can't always join each other's games.

I play mostly with randoms, it's challenging and I like the diversity in abilities the teammates show (or don't).

I only have one friend to play with, but I would choose friends over randoms any day, just because with friends I'm more inclined towards actually using voice chat. I really loathe talking to complete strangers in games.
EDIT: And the other reason why I would choose friends>randoms is that in my experience I have higher chances of winning seemingly hopeless battles.

Everyone is a "random" at some point. That is, until you add them to your friends list because they actually communicated with you or played well. Most often i prefer private matches because they almost always are full of people who are willing to talk. But i like to try random gold matches to find new squadmates to call on.

friends any time I can is the priority.
Players with mic open and talkative is close second.
Anything else...
I do not mind to be thrown in the middle of a game either...

I think I would prefer to play with regulars, but small friends list, no microphone (I play when others in my house sleep, voices tend to be disruptive), and no text capabilities makes interaction harder, so friend requests and finding people again is a bit harder.
Therefore, as a PC player, I play with randoms nearly exclusively, who are just as silent as me.

At random you get kick for all sort of reasons, but mostly a lot more fair people around then not. I don't play private much. Random is okay though. If you're picky and choose high level N7 guys, it's usually a good game.
I don't like mic while playing games, so it works for me.

Due to my timezone, it's 95% randoms, 5% friends list, though with the withering of the PS3 community they are not randoms anymore, more like acquaintances. I keep running into PSN names I recognise every night, esp weekdays. I should send them all friend requests :-P

I generally prefer to play with friends but more often than not it doesn't work out - they're not on or already playing.
I must say though that I've met the majority of my friends through random play.

Depends. If I get bored of randoms, I'll go with friends, if I get bored of playing with frds, I'll do some solo, if I get bored of soloing... it's an endless cycle.

I play with Reptilian Rob + two randoms.

Randoms almost exclusively. My old computer and origin In Game don't get along very well. It seems as though In Game leads to more crashing and server disconnects.

Play randoms mostly. I find them to be really fun. Its a challenge to play with complete strangers. I prefer playing with my friends but we play at different times so it can be tough to just get on and play. We end up having to set a day for everyone to get on an play.

Random groups are quiet 90% of the time.
My regular group of 3-4 people tell me "You're so Awesome" or "You're a God". I prefer that!
