It's more fun to talk to friends, to have the opportunity to try out silly builds with no pressure of carrying, to not have to worry about abusive messages, to reference in-jokes about the Drell Vanguard, etc. Also it's just too easy for a bad team to cause things to go pear shaped and I don't see carrying a team as an exciting challenge most of the time, but more as a tedious bore. Equipment usage is also highly susceptible to the free-rider problem.

Hey Folks,
I wonder how many of you prefer the comradarie of a few regular indiviuals to play MP with, or do you prefer the randomness of drop in lobbies?
Alternatively, how much of a mix of the above do you have in your MP play?
Cheers
I fill up a lobby with friends, but if friends don't fill the list, I open it up as public.
So, probably with at least 1 random 75% of the time, and all randoms 1/4 of that.

I'd prefer to play with friends, but I don't really have any

I pretty much exclusively play with regulars now. The group I play with are quite skilled, which makes for a better chance of winning, but the best thing about them is they all have a sense of humor. It's not uncommon that I end up doing something stupid and dying, simply because I'm too distracted by the hilarity of whatever conversation is going on during the match.
Or the conversation AND action times, like myself soloing 85% of wave 10 on gold dagger reapers with a Batarian Sentinel and then with one brute left getting that dare to falcon punch him... ... ... ... And then we were all still laughing when we returned to lobby and that one random tried to kick me, which only made us laugh more. Good times. Good times with regulars and friends.
And let's not forget about the open slot.

So, I play only with friends, or solo. Not by choice, because I used to use pugs as a way to make NEW friends. The friends I play with also have their own regular characters and playstyles - I may not be able to talk in Teamspeak with randoms, but (providing I'm hosting and not dealing with a range of pings) I found them fun because I got to play with all sorts of different characters and styles.
Now I only do so through the 'friend of a friend' system, which has much less scope, especially since those people already have to synergise with my current friends' preferences.

But since he is the only friend who plays this game we open the lobby for two randoms.
We sometimes feel like the panel in americas got talent, and if we don't like what we see, you'll get the big ol' X.. So sorry to anyone who has been kicked from my lobbies, it's not you, it's me

Playing with randoms = network latency issues, no team game, no tactics, people runs ahead and dies because they want to collect scores... not so fun.
Sadly most of my friends don't play ME MP for a while, our team is falling apart.
