My friends list on Origin is shamefully empty
The people I used to play with regularly all quit, so it's always randoms for me. I find that it keeps my skills sharp since you sometimes end up with people who don't seem to know what they're doing
But I don't mind, mp stays interesting that way!

With the current lobby system it is tough to play with friends, unless you coordinate beforehand. The system to join matches is just to clunky, for lack of a better word. My playtime is pretty random, so it is tough to catch friends at the right time.
I try and play random lobbies on platinum most of the time, but without a gate system to play the hardest level it is often filled with people that are delusional, based on their builds/weapons, low level gear and lack of consumables, there is no way they have a chance of completing platinum....even on FBW. Platinum should have requirements, if it did it would be more manageable to play with randoms.
I end up playing random gold matches 80% of the time, with the other 20% being platinum randoms that look like they have a chance.

I generally prefer playing with friends. When they're not available and I have free time, I sometimes go with random groups. Now that I have all the rare weapons, all the characters and customizations, I'm a little less motivated to play with random groups, and my friend-games are less frequent.
Mind if I plug my idea that you guys come up with a really kickass engineer character?

I enjoy playing with friends, and tend to do that in the evenings. Insomnia gets me playing many, many very late pugs, and I really like those too. It's a different kind of game though - not knowing what the pug will be like, I only take in a character I feel confidently able to solo the round with if I have to.

Randoms, but principally because I don't have many friends/ones who are online. Just wish we had a text chat system to be honest, it would make meeting new people and friends much much easier.

I would prefer playing with regular players, but the problem there is with the current tools available in the game this is very hard to build any kinda of connection with other players. Very few players ever using the voice tools available, thus you never build a connection with the other players if they don't speak.
It's also not helped by the fact the game connects you randomly all over the world to players who may not speak the same language as you. Over 70% of the time most random matches I'm in people are usually speaking Russian or Polish (can't tell the difference, just know they sound similar), occasionally French.
There are only a handful of ME3 communities, which doesn't really give much variety out there, you either part of one or the other.

Is this post anything to do with the responses to the recent survey by any chance?
This is my own brainchild. The recent survey had to do with BSN itself.
Hah, it is appreciated in any case.

I prefer having at least one friend, but will play with random players as well.

No longer play randoms, been that way for months....simply too frustrating:)
92% are friends that are also members here at BSN
7% are friends I met in random lobbies back in April OR if we had an opening in gold and someone joined, I almost always receive a friends request.
1% would be randoms that on objective weekends I will jump in after friends are through and help others.
0% are employees at BIO/ME, for some reason they don't hang out on XB, think I will fix that by mailing one to them:)
Edit:
I should add the reason I don't do random is I by far prefer gold, I used to do random bronze to test a build or weapon, now I just solo bronze/silver etc.
If however I was to play silver, I would do randoms as I could carry a team, I honestly hate loosing and will do whatever for extraction.

I usually PUG. Most of the time my friends are usually busy with gold match. So I went into PUG land in search of new talent players in silver match. They can be really good or just a new players. N7 1 in silver match is pretty hilarious.
Well, if they're good then it'll be 15 mins game of carefree playing. If they dropped all over the map then it's time to solo and show them the way to kill things without gotten killed.

Random groups - almost always play random, and if I'm not then I'll let randoms in! Never had the problems with them everyone else seems to. Don't always extract, but I don't feel like I have to, either.
Meet new people with randoms. Not always. Often, everyone'll just go about their business, and it'll be good but not memorable. Best times are when you go into a lobby, start using the mics, and then everyone else joins in, one by one, until you end up with a whole gang of strangers laughing and joking and mucking about. Nothing better than hearing the "click" of a microphone being switched on.

i play random games...it adds variety and keeps it interesting for me by playing with different people that play differently....plus, it gives me a chance to meet people to add to my list to play with in the future....now if only i kept them and played with them, instead of deleting them

Normally friends, we'll open it up to a random if we can't fill a team, or drop the difficulty down a notch.

I pretty much only play with people on my friends list, and their friends. If we have an open spot we'll open it up to a random (if no one else is on) - but those times when absolutely no one is on, I just go and play another game..

I play 10% regulars and 90% random.
Random games tend to start up faster. Getting regulars together has a large 'herding cats' component. The thing is that everyone (myself included) wants to jump into a game instead of waiting around. This could only be mitigated by some sort of observer mode.
Also, playing with regulars can sometimes be too similar to farming for me. Randoms have different play-styles and figuring out how to work with that is part of the challenge/fun. Getting a good clear time with randoms can be as fun as getting an outstanding clear time with regulars.

Randoms. I know they get a lot of hate from people always complaining that they never get good lobbies, but I have only a few friends who have ME3, most of which have moved on to CoD stuff. Even if I had a list full of active ME3 players, randoms are better for a quick game. No having to wait for the friends to finish their current match to accept the invite and all that. Just hit random and drop straight into a game - thats the way for me.

I'm currently a Gold player and I would say my mix is about 75% random matches, 25% with friends. My friend group is 30 people and they have a diverse set of match preferences that don't always line up with how I like to play. Or they're not online often.
I like random matches for their quick set up and turnaround. In friend / private matches I'll frequently be waiting in the lobby for 10 minutes while we wait for a 4th who's trying and failing to get into the match due to crashes, errors, etc.)
Also, the range of experiences in random matches is fun. The failures make the successes that much sweeter.

PUG it unless friends online, and still fill the lobby with randoms.

Randoms. Join the game whenever you want, finish the game wheneverOrigin loses connectionyou want.
Plus I'm on PC and the folks I would probably play with are on Xbox. Don't see any of us switching.
So, for me, pugs are where it's at.

Most of the time, I play with at least 1 person I know. When I've got 2 buddies online at the same time, I know the mission will most likely be successful. I have fun with PUGs, but they can be frustrating. They always tend to run for the LZ circle at the start of wave 11, no matter how nicely you ask them not to :-( But in any case, group of friends >>> PUG.

It depends on my mood. Randoms for variety and regulars for consistency and reliability.

I'd prefer to play with friends but all of my IRL friends who play ME3 multiplayer play on xbox and I'm a PC player so can't play with them. Have a bunch of people on my friends list from when the demo came out but very rarely see any of them online anymore so I mostly play in PUGs. If there was cross platform play there would be no question that I'd mostly just play with my actual friends. I'd also probably play a lot more. I don't mind the PUGs but sometimes you get one of those games with players that just irritate you (their play style is counter to yours, they aren't team focused, they are insulting on the mic, etc). I don't mind new players who are learning so long as they aren't in a gold/platinum match equipped with a predator II.
