I have a very powerful computer.
It's a Falcon Northwest Talon with a 2.93 GHZ Intel I7 870 processor, 8 gb ram, and a 2xATI Radeon 5870 crossfire setup.

It laughs at this game's attempts to tax my system, even at 2560x1600 resolution and max settings.

However, I have to make a trip and was thinking about investing in a cool little netbook.

Anyone manage to run this game on a netbook?  If so, what kind of hardware does it have?

i thought netbooks didn't have hard drives?

They do. Some expensive ones have solid state drives even.

I'd say look at the tech specs. No idea. I doubt it, but perhaps there is some netbook powerful enough.

Unlikely. Netbooks don't have enough memory unless you want to upgrade yours to 2 gigs of ram, and even you need a dedicated graphics chip running a minimum of 512 megs.

The new HP 311 is the first netbook with an Nvidia graphics chip, but even then I don't know if it's strong or fast enough to run this game.

LOL!

Anyone thinking of running ANY game that requires 3D rendering on a 'netbook' makes me LOL, seriously!

I'd say no, simply because the Intel Atom CPU isn't dual-core (it's a 32 bit Hyper-Threaded CPU), unless some of the later ones are; my Acer Aspire One won't run it, especially if you need the game disc (if you bought the game on DVD), since they don't have a DVD-ROM drive.

Besides the weak CPU, any that use Intel's poor excuses for graphics are worthless for any type gaming.  For older, less taxing games, there now are some intermediate small systems using Atom CPUs, but with an nVIDIA 8200 chipset that can do some 3D.  I don't know about any that have included DVD drives, however.

Additionally, there are some dual-core Atom CPUs for low end notebook PC use, but right now, AFAIK, there's no nVIDIA chipset to go with those.

The game runs on the Asus N10 netbook at medium settings. (Nvidia 9300m GPU)

Cool! I was actually thinking about the Core 2 solo processor 1.40 GHZ rather than the atom series. I heard the Core 2 solo is faster.

What about Acer Ferrari One-200:
http://www.notebookc...ew.21454.0.html

It also has XGP port, which in future will allow adding "exteral" graphics card to boost gaming performance.

P.S.
Still, although it's a netbook with performance comparable to cheaper notebooks, it's still far away from desktop performance, or even better notebooks. All said, it could be playable at low details with reduced resolution. And even better when XGP cards become available.

It is, although I'm not acquainted with any useful video fucntionalitty to go with that in-between Notebook system, what with the brawl going one between Intel and nVIDIA, and including the FTC suit against Intel for locking nVIDIA out.

My DosuPara Prime Note Cresion NA could run it. Dual core Atom330, with hyperthreading (4 logical cores, still Atom though) and an nVidia ION chipset for full DX10 compliance. 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVD, 13x7 screen. Came out before the HP did too, but Japan only :(

My Dell XPS notebook is a little over a year and a half old...I play the game with everything maxed, (except shadows, I tend to keep them off in all my games). It has two 8800m GTX's in SLI mode, though I have run it in both single and SLI and noticed little in game difference. When I am out on the road the 17" monitor is more than adaquate but at home I hook it up to my 24" monitor, SoundBlaster X-Fi external sound system and Saitek keyboard.

I have to imagine that whatever Dell or competing companies are presently putting out would blow my laptop away. Don't expect to get by on the cheap though, gaming laptops are going to cost you.

Not a netbook but it has the battery life of one and the power of a full size laptop!

you MIGHT be able to pull it off with one of the HP Envy 13s.

it's only 2 inches bigger than a netbook, and it's got way better graphics, processor and RAM.

don't exaggerate!

that thing barely has the power of my 2-year-old full-sized laptop.

1.6 ghz processor, Intel integrated graphics...  I doubt DA:O would even start on it, much less play at a reasonable framerate.

That's pretty nice, I haven't seen anything like it in the US, unfortunately.

how do they do the dvd on that thing? is it slot-load?

if it's internal, does it up the weight factor by much?

standard laptop DVD (or Blu-ray if you want to pay for it) it's a 12" laptop and rather nice ;) I want a better screen on it with more resolution. Also the wifi card doesn't work with 64 bit windows 7 yet, but I'm replacing it with an Intel card (gotta wire up another internal antenna for that though :(

Detailed specs: http://www.dospara.c...=d&m=pc&mc=1070 (in Japanese)

Since someone mentioned battery life I thought I would add...If you are on a gaming laptop playing system intensive games like this, Mass Effect, Bioshock, ect. you will not be using your battery. Ever.

Load up a game and forget to plug in and you can almost hear the battery draining away

GeForce G210M + Intel GMA 4500MHD

Read a little more closely next time. That's a modern GPU paired with the latest core architecture. It'd spank your 2 year old laptop. And it will run for 10 hour on a charge ;)

The graphics are switchable ON THE FLY between integrated and the Nvidia G210m so you can conserve battery while not gaming. Even while gaming you should get about 4-5 hours of it. Quite impressive wouldn't you say?

If you would like something to play on a netbook, checkout Torchlight.

It's made by people that worked on Diablo II and Fate, combining the best loved parts of both. In the settings menu it actually has a setting for running it on netbooks.
