I hope dragon age II was the first and last time Bioware used "awesome" combat.

*Press any button for awesome"

I much prefer the way combat looked and felt in DA:O. Not these spasmy almost Anime style combat that looks borderline childish, with just flash in the sake of being flashy.

Lets hope Dragon Age III goes back to its origins in this respect.

and please, get rid of the "awesome" blood that everybody is soaked in as soon as even 1 hurlock is slain.

That was a poorly phrased, and indeed, misleading quote... there were no buttons to be pushed.

Who doesn't like things that are awesome? DA2's problem was that it just wasn't, for a wide variety of reasons.

It's interesting, every time they mentioned combat in the press release they paired it with the word "tactical" ... it's the word "visceral" that you have to watch out for..."visceral" is codetalk for "actiony"

DA3's combat will be "bodacious"

(DA2's combat would have been good with better encounter and enemy design)

*I doubt that will happen again. Right. Right?*

I'm fine with 'awesome' combat. My beef lies with Dragon Ball Z style final boss fights, with old ladies creating earthquakes by stabbing the ground and bringing statues to life and flying about and monologuing in the middle of the scrap.
What the ******, Bioware?

You do know that DA:O's combat was supposed to be awesome too, yes? The difference was just that in DAII the "awesome" happened directly after you pushed the button, while in DA:O it took several moments, while your character sloooowly turned and stamped to the enemy. That's all the infamous "awesome button" quote is about.

It's called a boss fight. That not odd for bosses to be like that.

I don't think the combat was the problem that DA2 had. I could live with it, but what I hated was how linear and recycled the "zones" were. The story was solid, but the way that we interacted with the story, especially in the dungeons, was its biggest weakness.

DA:O's combat was genuinely tactical and visceral.  DA2's combat was awesome button.  So far they've described DA3's combat as tactical and visceral.  Just saying.

I prefer the faster combat felt more fluid that how it would be shouldn't take my warrior 10 seconds to slowly crawl to the enemies then massacre them...I wouldn't mind if they made it more action based Idk what game you played but I didn't mash a lot of buttons..but this style made the rouge worth playing where in DAO was a joke to me was just a wimpy warrior..So it was like warrior or mage...What i HOPE is they bring back more special classes...I loved my mages but so Missed my warrior mage

Let's face it, they can only go up from DA2.

Are you kidding me? DA2's combat was leagues above origins. Origins had crappy animations and everything they did looked funny.

DA2's combat was very fun especially as a mage. It made me feel like some final fantasy/mortal combat character.

I thought DA2's combat was good. It just lacked strategy and depth

I liked DA2's combat for the most part - it's the encounter design that suffered, with waves of invisible ninjas in every other combat.

There's probably a nice balance between DA2's combat and Origins' shuffle-shuffle-whack somewhere.

The warrior combat should be like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. That was fun

Playing as a mage was the most strategic of the 3 classes. There were so many ways to play as one, like wether or not you want to be the healer/support character and or an absolute powerhouse with blood bending and force specializations.

Worrior was the most bland imo. You just level up and hit stuff with your giant sword. There isn't much else to it.

Lol, mages with rapid fire attacks. I hope they don't include that in DA3.

Well, I'm no supporter of the DA2 combat system but there was a bit more to it than that. Either way, I hope we at least see a return of the tactical camera, and hopefully have the animations toned down.

I liked the chess sorta feel DAO's combat had, and it was much more strategic than DA2's horrible enemy encounters and press A combat.

How about magic beams? Like a kamahamaha wave DBZ style.

Won't be playing if it's the boring kind of combat that DA:O had. It got so boring, so fast. I don't mind things being tactical and such, but the slow pace and ungratifying combat just doesn't work for me. Even some of the current MMORPGs have more enjoyable combat systems these days.

The combat in DA2 was way better than DAO, which to be honest was so friken boring. Playing as a Mage was epic in DA2.
