It seemed like in DA:O and DA2 (at least on higher difficulties) that you always need that extra healer in the party wherever you go... even if you want to see interactions from different characters, or try a different style.

In DA:3 it would be nice if either;

1. You don't need 1 healer in the party.
2. There are many characters that qualify for this role.

Anyone have suggestions on how this could be achieved?

You DON'T always need a healer. If you learn cross class combos well enough, potions are enough. But I'll admit, it does take quite a bit of skill, more than the average gamer has the patience to achieve.

Hopefully the game won't require any specific combat roles be filled, and hopefully won't restrict any class to specific combat roles.

I really dislike that only Warriors make good tanks in DA2, and I really dislike the extent to which the encounter design seemed to assume that the party would have one.

I would love if there were more ways to heal other than poultices...which is damn near impossible to drink.

Letting you equip your companions with any weapon would solve most problems.

If we were allowed to extensively customize our companions builds, we could come up with all sorts of interesting party combinations and strategies/tactics. Of course that makes it more challenging for BioWare to balance the encounters, but that would be half the fun.

it would add to the replayability too.

I'm just gonna throw my wasted vote in favor of a classless system they'll never adopt ever.

It would be really hard for an Rogue to kill with a mage staff, but alright, then.

Mage equipment would, of course, be restricted to mages. But a mage picking up a sword shouldn`t be impossible.

Second.

Personally, I'd like to see some hybrid classes.  I really like clerics (not the religious bit, but the melee attacking heal/buff class), but DA2 had nothing of the sort, and DA didn't really make them function how I'd have hoped (yes, you could do Spirit Healer/Arcane Warrior, but I'm not interested in the offensive magic, and they were pretty terrible as a melee combatant.)

I always felt I was short a tank, especially in DA2.  Why they made Sebation ANOTHER rogue archer I'll never figure out.

Picture this. You are an archer in DA2, and you want Bethany to end up as a Gray Warden... That means you are stuck with 2 archers and 2 mages in the deep road expedition. Varric is locked. Anders has to be part of it in order to find the wardens...Not a cool situation.

If the optimal grouping does not involve a healer, there is no reason to bring a healer. Why, you ask? DPS speeds up combat more than a healer, tanks speed up combat more than a healer because they do damage too. If you want to play on a higher difficulty, why are you not using the optimal combination?

The lack of options for healers in DA2 was problematic, not that healers were necessary for higher levels of difficulty.

Hopefully they won't restrict the mage companions from the healing path. If i don't want Anders in my party in DA2 i have to be a mage myself because Merrill is blocked from being routed in that direction.

Hopefully they won't restrict any companions from any skill path associated with their respective classes.

mr_afk has this all melee party setup (thus no healers) for DA2 that works surprisingly well. Also you can solo the game on nightmare while not beeing a mage (shadow rogue anyone?).

In DAO you could potion spam, so no need for a healer what so ever.

I would not be surprised if there were ways in DA3 too.

Indeed. Thankfully, this was fixable in DA2 with a mod (or I probably would never have used Isabella) and if it occurs in DA3 hopefully it will be fixable as well (though I've no idea how mod-friendly Frostbite 2 is.)

classless level-less is the best way, if you ask me.
But since I very much doubt they'll give up the Warrior/Rogue/Mage trifecta, as long as they don't randomly block companions from accessing some of their class' skill trees, I'm content. Individualized specializations are fine, forcibly removing "base" class options is not.

I don't think I would have bothered playing DA2 at all if that hadn't been fixable.  The way Anders and Merrill were restricted from regular skill trees was appalling.

I can't even play DAO without No Follower Auto-Level.  Having skills not just pre-selected, but prohibited was a bridge too far.

I wish they have some types of battlemage. The classes in DA2 are very restricted. It's like you are either a class cannon or you're not. Mages should usually be the most flexible class in the game, but it was so limited and weak in DA2 in comparison to DAO.
