If BioWare does as good of a job as they have in the past with their classes and companions they can get away with a shorter game that has lots of replay value. They put a lot of time into their companions and how they relate to each other so it's worth while doing a lot of different play thorughs.

Provided they make a game I want to play, I'd settle for 40 hours. Of course, 100 would be better, but it wouldn't matter to me if it was a 1000 hour game if its DA2 all over again.

There are three variables in my game purchasing decision process: Quality, Quantity and Cost.

Quanitity (game length) is generaly known. Cost is very much known. Quality is subjective, but I have bleeding edge gamer friends who I trust for reviews.

If they say "DA 3 is to computer games what Casablanca is to movies", then I will buy it, regardless of the Quantity or the Cost(Casablanca is such a great movie!).

On the other hand if the conversation goes like this:

BEGF: DAO is to games as Highlander (the movie with Sean Connery) is to video (I liked Highlander, btw), then DA2 is to games as the tv series Highlander is to video.

M: M'okay

BEGF: Then DA3 is to games as Highlander 2 is to video.Or maybe a Uwe Boll version of Highlander.

M: There was never a Highlander 2! Uwe Boll is the evil that walks the earth! Brain hurts! Must weep and wail and gnash teeth!

So quality is the major factor. Length of game and price only come into play if the first is acceptable.

Given that BW is spending a fair amount of time on the game (eighteen months to date and an announced release time a year from now), here's hoping that they dazzle us with quality.

Depends on the content, quality over quantity

I'd prefer a good quality RPG to an artistic vision. ;)

100 hours thank you very much. And if I might be bold 1000 hours would be even better.

Dragon Age: Origins was a massive game with tons of quests and areas to explore. It took me at least 100 hours in my first playthrough. It was an awesome value for your money, especially since so many modern games are only 10-20 hours. I remember Knights of the Old Republic taking 100 hours of my life too.

Dragon Age II has considerably less content, but still took me a lot of time to complete. It was more in line with the Mass Effect games, which took me 60 hours each.

Do people want shorter games or longer games? Personally I want as much content as possible.

I prefer 60h, or rather 40-60h. I prefer playing through the game multiple times with different characters/classes/companions and I have too little spare time do do that with a 100h+ game.  Also, longer games are not really "replay-frendly" to me. I can't really explain why I feel that way though.

A 100. 200 would be even better.

I find it absolutely amazing that you got 60 hours out of a single playthrough of DA2. I understand the 100 for DA:O because of all of the content...but 60 hours? Most of that had to have been the neverending wave combat. 60 hours is probably more than most got out of DA2.

I think ~40 is much more typical for DA2, and that's doing even all the pointless item return quests...and that's being generous.

If the question is, do I want content more on the order of DA:O...the answer is YES.

I got 75h... and that was before the DLC came out. And I really tried to play quickly.. I got 120h or more when I played DAO though.

I'd like to see them put more resources into alternate paths to take in the game. If that reduces the length of an individual playthrough I believe it would be worth it.

But I'll always want more for my money.

I'd rather have at least 40 hrs of excellent quality content then 100 hrs stretched content.

Quality over quantity.

It really depends on the content in question... do I want a 60 hour game that wants me to spend an extra 40 hours crafting my own items and running all over the world map taking thing A to point B, in a million different flavors, over and over again?

Not so much.

Longer, provided that extra time isn't just filler content padding the play time, which DA:O and DA2 both had (I'm looking at you, Fade and nighttime gang fights).

If it was 100 mediocre hours vs 6 great ones, I would take 6.

I'm among those who want meaningful content with good pacing. Many "long" games tend to stagnate and induce tedium. Some shorter ones do too. I'd like a deep, involved game with good pacing that holds my interest. The nature and unravelling of the story itself will determine if the effort of playing was worth it.

i want it to be abit longer than origins, with the amount of time there spending on it this seems reasonable

That's a trick question. Time has nothing to do with it. A 100-hour game can be bloated with garbage quests and filler content, while a leaner, better game may only last 50 hours.

I want the game to be as long as it needs to be to be complete, interesting and fun. I don't want content added just to bulk up the playtime if that content is pretty lame and uninspired. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a side-quest-aholic, so I'll sit there and do as many of them as I can find in a playthrough (I can't resist treasure, I just can't). But there usually comes a point when I'm doing that where I say "God I hate these stupid lame sidequests."

Using playtime as a gauge is a pitfall. I want the game to be as long as it needs to be to deliver the story and a memorable experience.

How about a mix?

I'd rather have 40 hours of quality content than 60 hours of meh + grinding/boring fetch quests.

It is the content. I am one of those weird people that play Bioware for their stories, and replay them because I want to see how the story changes or see some new bit of dialogue that I missed. Dragon Age: Origins was a bit mundane at time, but the length worked for the story overall.  Personally, Dragon Age 2 was more interesting, but it way too short.  It depends on the content, and what they are trying  to accomplish. No "fetch" missions.

Depends on what's in those hours. If it's 100 hours of quality and unique content, then sign me up. But if they're just going to pad it to that number with mind-numbing FedEx quests and annoying enemy waves, then no thanks.

The more the better but I prefer it if the content doesn't get repetitive.
