DA:O - 22-29 hours deppends on class
DA2 - 18 hours
ME1 - 34+ hours
ME2 - 28+ hours
ME3 - 16 - 21 hours
KOTOR - 25 hours

(all quests done)

LOL ... I feel like a speed of light here

A completionist DAO in under 30 hours?  That doesn't seem possible.  DAO took me 89 hours.

Though I did ME in 29, and spent a bunch of time wandering uncharted worlds on foot (I didn't like paying the Mako XP penalty), and did the Ilos trench run on foot.

So, I'm actually preferring the mid-range of hours for games these days. A solid 50-70 hour game that is filled with diverse content and a great story will do me just fine through 3-4 replays, making it the equivalent of that one run through Skyrim. Too, I can intersperse other games among those replays, if I want, so I don't have to burn myself out. Finally, when good DLC and expansions come along, I can add them in to a new game and not have to concern myself about the fact that I'm already beyond the point where they fit well.

This.  Don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim, but all those caves and mountain lairs run together after a while.  I'd rather have a shorter, tighter, more cohesive game than a longer game with more padding.

Skyrim is what you make it. If you don't want to go into all those caves and dungeons, you don't have to. If you don't want to be part of the Dark Brotherhood, you don't have to be. It's all about (real) choice, unlike BioWare's games.

I'm fine with 60 hours of play as long as it doesn't include DLC, that costs $15 for 1 hour of play, when they could of just put it in the game.

Dragon Age: Origins was a massive game with tons of quests and areas to explore. It took me at least 100 hours in my first playthrough. It was an awesome value for your money, especially since so many modern games are only 10-20 hours. I remember Knights of the Old Republic taking 100 hours of my life too.

Dragon Age II has considerably less content, but still took me a lot of time to complete. It was more in line with the Mass Effect games, which took me 60 hours each.

DA2 was considerably longer than the ME games, twice as long for me. DAOw as longer still but it took me about a third longer than DA2.

I never said I didn't want to do all those bonus dungeons.  It was fun at the time.  But those dozens of hours are like reading a beach book--it's fun and passes the time, but it doesn't have any real substance to it.

Besides, Bethesda already does the Skyrim-type open world game, and they do it well.  If I want to play something like that, I'll just go play Skyrim.

Real choice isn't always this dramatic cliche like it's presented as in BioWare games. Sometimes real choice is real simple.

Skyrim gives you complete freedom to do and be whatever you want. I just think the people who complain about the game being too long are missing the point entirely. I can see you understand it, but it was just the way you worded it before that made it sound like you don't appreciate those big games.

500! 600! OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!

Anyway, as much as can be made reasonably fun. Even Dragon Age Origins had a lot of "filler" type content. Stuff on chantry boards that was just "kill thing here, get money". If I want that I'll go and play an MMO.

So I'm honestly not expecting another Baldur's Gate 2 out of this. I'll reserve that for "Project Eternity" (google it) or whatever Baldur's Gate 3 thing will come up from those guys making the Baldur's Gate Enhanced editions. As for DA 3, as long as its above say, 15 hours, then I'm fine.

Longer, ideally, but I'll take 60 hours of great content over 100 hours of mediocre content.  So really, first and foremost I hope BioWare creates a fantastic game, regardless of whether it's 30 hours, 60 hours, or 100 hours.

Apologies, then.  I wasn't clear.

In a game like Skyrim, where it's less about your dialogue than your actions, having all that extra stuff to do is how you define your character and your experience.  In games like Dragon Age where the roleplaying is more based on dialogue and particular plot decision points, too many fetch quests and extra dungeons with no plot end up diluting the game.  Does that make sense?

I thought DA2 was a reasonable length. Basically if they can do that length again but this time cut down the area re-use condsiderably i'd be happy. A bit of area re-use is ok but in DA2 it was obscene.

DA2 was rushed out the door in 11 months.  [source]

DAO was announced at E3 2004 and released in 2009, making it at least five years.

I don't like A-RPGs either, especially while some pureblood RPGs (Wasteland 2, Eternity) are coming. This is wy I don't mind DAIII much, they can do whatever they want to do this time.

I want a longer game as long as the content is good to great. I will take a shorter game with great content over a longer game with just decent content. I do not need a long boring game that is just long for the sake of it.

choosing whether or not to join a sidequest is not what people mean when they talk about choice in videogames.

DAO and DAII each took me 55 hours.

Each ME took ~20 hours.

Jade Empire took 25 hours.

I will tell you how long KotOR took when I'm done re-playing it.

I want DAIII to have all the content.

Depends on whether or not there are consequences* for not doing it as well as doing it.

*aside from not getting XP, money, or loot

M3 = 55 hours
M2 = 30 hours
M1 = 45 hours
DAII = 25 to 28 hours.
DAO =  don't remember

What I want to say is simple. No Bioware's game took me 100 hours. The only game that took me so much was Skyrim. And DAO is probably the only game close to 60 hours and more, when I was replaying it.

So, I am totally okay with a game that takes me 60 hours and even less since it is almost always the case.

Playable time reaches a point of diminishing returns. After a certain threshold, fatigue sets in and people lose interest in the game. If they manage to keep the game fresh through all of it, the longer the better. If the game sets into a dynamic of "Fight. Talk. Fight. Talk. Fight. Talk." and never really breaks it, even 20 hours would be too long.
