(This thread is based on the one in the DA2 Game Owners forum, all information here comes from that source and is widely available around gaming media sites, forums, and DA websites. That being said, I'm happy for this thread to be removed if it's considered out of line.)

NOTE:
The following comes from a DA3 marketing survey that was leaked approximately one month ago. At the time we weren't sure of its accuracy, but now it's possible to say (via the presence of "Inquisition" as a potential name choice and some of the concept art matching what was shown at PAX) that it did contain 'real' marketing information. The BSN DA2 Game Owners forum collected (and translated) a lot of it, and the rumours popped up on many game sites. Mark Darrah mentioned them in his blog just now.

It does NOT represent final information, and nothing here should be treated as confirmed, real, in-the-game, accurate or even vaguely representative of the final product until Bioware says or reveals otherwise. Game features in the survey were listed as possibilities to gather feedback.

(Needless to say, potential spoilers)

Potential subtitles:
  • Exarch
  • Inquisition [obviously, the one picked]
  • The Breach
  • Inquisitor
  • Apocrypha
Game marketing description/blurb

Version 1. (translated from German by BSN user Earthborn_Shepard)

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hordes of demons in the land, civil
wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is behind the
shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time has come for the
Inquisition.

Take the Inquisitor's cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into
the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into
the shadows or engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections
indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition. But you'll have to
take lead of it from the beginning. Make your player a rogue, warrior or mage
and set up your crew from up to ten complex companions to lead them against
those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying
them."

Version 2 (originally in English)

Features (NB: they seemed to be listed as possibilities, to gauge fan feedback)

[These are NOT word-perfect, or complete] Questions about which elements fans would find appealing, or prefer to be in the next game:

- online/coop modes

- special finishing moves

- a lot of crucial decisions

- drama and suspense

- player-controlled day/night modes

- better party management

- 4 companions at a time

Companion descriptions:

Dorian:
Dorian Pavus is a magister. The title conjures fear of arcane masters who
once enslaved nations. Dorian may wield power of the magisters, but he
delights in not being what you’d expect of them. Brazen and clever, this
outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption.

Sera:
Sera is young, frenetic, and a brat through and through. She revels in the
athleticism of being an elf, of being different. But her culture isn’t
elven, or, for that matter, strictly human. It’s the underbelly of the
city. In her network of rogues, what you do is more important than where
you’re from, and friends open more doors than [titles?]. Robs from the
rich, keeps it.

The Iron Bull:
The Iron Bull is a long way from home, and prefers it that way.
A slap in the face of typically humorless Qunari, he loves drinking,
killing, and looting-not necessarily in that order. The head of a vicious
mercenary company, he’s known for excellent pay and brutal punishment.
It’s been a ten year party, but the Bull may find that old loyalties die
hard.

Cole:
A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death in a dark place. And now,
somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit of a demon? Is he human now?
Cole’s not sure it matters anymore. Hounded by memories that aren’t his, invisible
in a world he can stalk like a shadow, the rogue must decide between
joining the living or preying on them.

Concept art of companions/other characters/we have no idea who these people are:
Image IPB
(This has been shared officially before, at Bioware's PAX event showing off armour customisation. If I had to guess, they are Cassandra the Seeker and Stroud, the Grey Warden)

Again, NONE OF THIS IS CONFIRMED, and it does not represent final information. Reposted here from around the web for fan enjoyment and speculation only.

Speculation? Enchantment?

My thoughts on the concept art: we can see Cullen, Sera, Stroud, Cassandra and possibly Dorian. Based on that (and considering the 10 possible companions mentioned in the marketing spiel), I'd speculate:

Warriors:
Cassandra
Iron Bull
Stroud
Cullen

Mages:
Dorian
Another mage?
Trident guy?

Rogues:
Sera
Cole
The woman holding the brush?

For the picture I think it's Stroud, Cassandra, Male PC, Female PC, ? (Trident Guy), Sera, ? (Assistant), Cullen.

So who's the Trident Guy?  Well, he's an indirect hint that there will be polearms in DA3 for one thing.  It's just concept art but if you watch enough Bioware games you'd see a Q&A where it was mentioned polearms could be added to a future game.  My first though was that he was a palace guard or an Orlesian Chevalier.  There's no room for more warriors given that Cullen, Cassandra, Iron Bull and Stroud fill up all four slots for warriors.  So maybe he's not a party member.

There's also the woman that looks like an assistant.  First I thought she might be an assistant to Empress Celene.  But maybe she's an assistant to the Inuqisitor.  You know, a Kelly Chambers for DA3 that could exist in a keep or an Inquisitor base.  One reason you might have a keep is your character might be an Exarch, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exarch

The designs look pretty nice. Yet the black dudes from the second pic, the archer lady from the third and the girl from the fourth are definitly too "cartoony".

Sera and Iron Bull guy sound distinctly unlikable. Not overly keen on Cole either.

Enchantment. Yes, Definitely Enchantment. Doesn't leave much place for old characters to return as companions. The story sounds quite promising.Screams Clash of Kings. Wonder who's the big bad pulling the strings. Flemeth? The Architect? Littlefinger? Morrigan? The Warden? The PC before amnesia? Hey, yeah. What if the player has DID?

Sera sounds annoying.

Reminds me of Nalia, in the sense of a bratty thief, just not rich.

Characters sound such as there is potentially MUCH interesting to build upon those basises.

Although Sera could use something more interesting about her. Maybe instead of belonging to a web of rogues and thiefs, she infact is an authority, and has a network of loyal rogues for herself?

I love the potential for GRRM-esque intrigue, we had it a little bit in DA:O and probably even less so in DA2 (competition for the Seneschal's position aside) - I love the gameplay implications, if it works out like the blurb suggests.

Apart from the possibility of that last picture being Cullen, I am unimpressed. Don't like Cassandra, hate Stroud, and would beat to death any brat who got within a sword length of me! Though she just sounds like a slight rewrite of Talis. And having read the book, I know who Cole is, and he would be the companion I'd leave at camp and never take anywhere.

After reading Asunder, Cole seems like he would be the Anders of DAIII.

Who's the mage guy?
Better not be a spirit healer.

Dorian? His name is probably a Wilde reference, and the last name is Latin for peacock. I really like the sound of the character description, actually. He's a magister, so spirit healing would maybe be a strange specialisation to have - given that there are (?) 10 companions, we can expect maybe another two mages to round out the party.

If you mean the concept art, someone in the old thread speculated that the two figures in similar looking armour (one with magic) were actually the Inquisitor, or player character - it's hard to be sure. The man could be Dorian, it does look kinda Tevinter-y.

Thanks and I meant the concept art.

There's a bunch of companions we don't know about yet, it looks like - I'm assuming at least one would be a dwarf.

(Though there are lots of warriors and already two rogues, it seems)

It could be that they've decided to switch between dwarves and qunari or that the actual inclusion of a dwarf companion came later than the survey er that is if it's real.

I have to say, based on the information mentioned in the survey, I don't find the any of the companions mentioned to be interesting.

I think such a short description can't really show us all about a particular character. I am reasonably sure that Bioware will, as always, surprise us in some way (if the survey is, in fact, mostly correct).

Let's say there had been a survey like that for DA:O.

"A Grey Warden with a mysterious heritage, Alistair is a sweet, yet naive young man. He was raised in the Chantry and trained to be a Templar....etc."

Maybe it's just me, but I would have been entirely uninterested in him. And he is the one character that turned out to be surprisingly likable for me. Point is, maybe Sera turns out to be an absolute badass. Maybe Iron Bull has a sense of humour that rivals Varric's. Who knows what awesome qualities they're hiding from us?

Interesting...the "Version 2" game description from the original poster sounds *a lot* like what happened in the anime "Dawn of the Seeker"! The behind the scenes features said the movie was canon, but perhaps it plays a more important role in DAIII's backstory then I originally assumed.
