Is this game going to require it?

It may be shouting at the wind at this point, but I really don't like unnecessary extra platforms to be on my system (steam is enough thanks).

Also, will this game be on steam?! :wizard:

Hmm..excellent question. Won't be touching Origin with a ten-foot pole.

I think it is safe to say that this game will 100% be distributed through Origin. I think it is equally likely that it will not be available on Steam. Origin is trucking along and EA clearly have no intent to return to Steam.

Personally I don't have a problem with Origin. After the issues with DA2 and steam, it seems unlikely that DA3 will be on there.

If the game is designed with DLC in mind then no it won't appear on Steam.  If they end up releasing a full collection version then yes it will at some point, case in point Crysis 2 when they released Maximum Edition on Steam which contained all the DLC in one package.

I have a hopeful theory that it won't be required. This is speculation of course, but I speculate that Origin was required by ME3 and The Old Republic because EA was trying to use the popularity of these games to strong-arm their way onto people's machines. I further speculate that EA might look at the established fan base of the Dragon Age games and figure that *most* of the folks who'll buy 3 already have Origin installed and they might not look at it as a big enough title to use as leverage to get a whole lot of new folks to install Origin if they haven't to this point. So they *might* be willing to drop the Origin requirement if it means bumping up sales a bit. I have no grounds for these assumptions... it's just how I remain hopeful that I won't be missing out on a fourth consecutive Bioware release. Of course, Origin's presence is just one hurdle, but it's the first and the biggest for me.

I'm expecting Origin to be forced on us. Hopefully, it's not too bad. I have Origin, but personally don't like it very much, especially after getting a patch from EA for Origin that broke it for about 6 months on my computer.

Origin is crap, it crashes all the time playing ME3, As soon as I'm done with ME3... Origin will be purged from my PC. I'm talking re-formatting and fresh install of windows kinda purge.

If they provide a data collection opt-out for the client i would tolerate origin. If they don't, I won't. And i would make my dissatisfaction known by purchasing a secondhand copy for console rather than purchasing a new copy (provided the game is still of interest after the details are revealed).

Steam has improved drastically over the years.  Origin still sucks.

By all means, EA/Bioware can package DA3 with Origin. But if they want to maximise their sales, they seriously need to allow for other options - either alternate platforms such as Steam, or a launch programme independent of Origin that will handle things like game settings, updates etc.

For me personally, Origin would be a big turn off - I don't like it much and quite frankly I don't need another game platform hogging my pc! The game would have to be fracking awesome for me to get past the whole Origin thing and buy the game at launch.

By that sentence you can't really say anything until Origin has been out for a few years.  It's only been one.

Yeah, but origin failed to learn from what Steam already did so well... Its like they are still stuck in 2008.

I just want to play it from the CD on my computer and not through some stinking web program.

Same here. If it will require Origin, I won't buy it. Period.

I missed out on Skyrim due to the Steam-Only distribution, and I am still alive, although it was hard not to buy it at first. But I found other little gems to play, and I will also survive not buying DA3, although I am really addicted to DA:O.

But I will never use Steam, I will never use Origin. I do not want to let a platform decide whether I will have access to my acquired games in the future or not. And no matter how many "advantages" some may see in such a platform, to me it is simply something I won't ever agree to.

Registering the game like DA:O is ok for me, though. But I won't ever install such crap like Origin or Steam on my machine.

I held my nose and opened a Steam account for FO:NV, but my PC is currently Origin-free, and DA III won't change that. My preference is also for a box with a disc inside and offline play. Certainly by the time DA III is released, those who are going to install Origin will have done so. EA didn't force me to install Origin in order to buy Sims 3 Pets or Kingdoms of Amalur so I think there's reason to hope that in the long term they'll take a practical view and sell other games to folks who don't use Origin.

I fully expect that origin will be forced upon dragon age fans as it was done with mass effect fans.

After DA2 I wasn't planning on getting it full price anyway, but origin will prevent me from even getting it for 5 bucks. I really think the bioware employees should quit and found a new studio (or any other way to part with ea and start crowd funding games and return to their old quality)

I don't have any problem with Origins, as long as I don't have to get it through Steam. Origins is much more mod-favorable than Steam in my experience.

Most likely.

Don't have a problem with Origin myself, so it wouldn't change my decision to buy it.

Origin is pathetic, it can't even reintegrate itself to a Windows reinstallation like Steam can.

I agree completely. I've had bad experiences with both programs, and do not want either one of them. If I pay for a boxed game, I expect to be able to play it off line if I want.

I would be surprised if the game didn't need Origin running.
