DA3 Toolset: A Plea to Bioware *UPDATED WITH POLL*

One of the greatest things about Dragon Age: Origins was the toolset. The toy for any enterprising gamer to unleash their creativity and passion through to create great stuff.

However with the recent staunch EA's stance on the end of SP along with DICE telling their players that they won't release a toolset due to being afraid of hacks in MP and difficult to implement etc, I fear that DA:O will be the last time we'll see the toolset.

I plead that Bioware prove to the community that they're not being dictated by Day 1 DLC and EA's marketing but instead with a care for the fans they have.

You did it wth Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins. Please don't give up on the toolset and modding community because of fear of lacking DLC sales, unbalanced MP, and a quick buck.

Here's the poll!

Poll:
http://social.biowar...63/polls/39505/

I want to gauge just how many fans would want the toolset and then send it to Priestly as feedback.

I would love to see Bioware return to supporting fan-made content, mods and releasing a public toolkit. I will say, the main reason I ever bought a second copy of Skyrim, it was the PC version and was exclusively so I can tinker with the Creation Kit. Please Bioware, release a DA3 toolkit!

DA3 will also prove that Bioware isn't just in for the money. It shows the heart of the developer and wins goodwill with the fans.

Do we really have to get into how the modding community has created games like Counter-Strike, DOTA, DayZ, and fixing almost every Bethesda game in existence?

Come on look at the goodwill that is being given to CDPR and Bethesda in doing this...

If dragon age 3 is halfway decent then I hope bioware can release one. Sadly I don't think EA would approve given their stance on dlc and singleplayer. A shame since I can't think of a single game that was worse off for having a toolset.

Bethesda especially has benefited tremendously from it.  Morrowind will still be being purchased years after everyone has forgetten there ever was a DA2.  It has increased the shelf life of their games, it has given them a legion of talented and creative folks that make their games more marketable, it increases the good word of mouth being spread and in turn leads to goodwill etc.

There are a lot of good, public-relations building, fanbase building reasons to release a toolkit.  It's a smart business decision.  Therefore EA will not do it.

A toolset will do nothing but benefit the game. I'd love to see one for DA3.

Who needs that when you can make a free buck with DLCs? :D

I kinda want to guage the current sentiment in the community for a toolset.

Might start a poll...

Will DA3 have biplanes?

Why stop there when we can have battle mechs?

I support this SO much. Players who want to mess around with Frostbite 2 who were unable to with BF3 should get access to the engine somehow to make mods and TCs. It's what made NWN and DAO so great and it should really return.

Anyone want to throw up a poll that could show some support numbers for this idea?

I support this. Relevant link:

http://frictionalgam...ears-later.html

The creators behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent detailed their feelings in this blog post on a quickly made custom story kit they released to the fan community and discuss how it has effected the lifespan of the game. He writes that there are over 176 completed custom stories out there for download now and that many "Let's Play channels have devoted quite a bit of time with just playing [them]". The longevity of the game is increased when you have these already popular YouTube streams constantly playing through spin-offs of this game and he admits that it has led to more sales.

I know it's obvious that a lot more time and effort that has to go into a toolkit for a series like Dragon Age than one for Amnesia (which, again, I understand is a pretty simple game as far as both graphics and mechanics go), but I believe that it's a worthwhile investment when you consider how much life (and money) a modding community can breath into an old or aging game.

Considering DICE has shot down any prospects of allowing modding and supporting the mod community with Battlefield 3, I highly doubt BioWare will do anything to actively support modding with DA3 if its using Frostbite 2 as it's backbone.

Yeah I mentioned that in my op...

This move would be brilliant yet EA is too concerned with the possible loss of revenue along with hackers messing with MP (if DA3 has one).

It stinks as I believe that if EA does do it, it will OUTWEIGH anything else even if it hurts MP.

I posted a poll.

Lets see how badly the fans want it or is it even worth looking into.

An easy-to-use consolidated toolset, please. Then, if I wanted to get into the programming and nitty gritty aspects, then I could. But the fact that it looks just plain daunting to get into is preventing me from even trying (import this, get that gff editor, blah, blah). I've only used Aurora, Electron was too much for my old computer to handle. The DAO mods didn't look to user-friendly, and then the utter lack of a DA2 one. I'd really like to get involved with modding again.

Agree! If DA3 is made as mod-friendly as say DA:O or Skyrim I can die a happy man.

As much as I would like to see a toolset released for the game, it will never happen seeing as the game will be on Frostbite 2 and remembering that EA/DICE said they won't release mod tools for BF3 because the engine is too complex for us to handle.
