There's clearly been significant discussion about how Knight-Captain Cullen might be an appropriate companion for a story that heavily features the mage-templar war and issues relating to the purpose of the Templar Order. There have also been several rumors and leaks suggesting his inclusion in the next game in some capacity. Among them:

1. The leaked survey companions included some concept art that looked suspiciously identical to Cullen, featuring a fur-trimmed coat, a sword of mercy symbol, and the puzzling almost photoshopped head.

Is the sword of mercy on the crotch an Orlesian thing, as per Dawn of the Seeker?



2. Greg Ellis, of course, tweeted that he was heading into the BW studio for voice acting, and that the character was Cullen. The tweets were later deleted.




So what are other's thoughts on his inclusion? If the leaked survey  names were real, does this suggest the leaked concept was real? If Greg Ellis was doing his VO work so early, does that suggest he's a significant character and not just a cameo? What do you think about his role in something called an Inquisition? Will he follow the new templar order into their new mage hunting ways, or stick to his principles that mages should be watched and protected? Is it likely he's even still a templar after his extreme insubordination at the end of  DA2: Act3? If that concept art is real... what the heck is he wearing??

The gals will love this I suppose. I just hope they flesh the character out a lot more. Some of his actions in DA2 made me want to lop off his head.

Never got why he's so popular, but I don't dislike him and if his role in the party makes sense, I'm all for it.

Hmm, not sure what to think but, maybe he won't be a templar, but still keep some of the ideals,. Or, he could still be a templar, just in a group who hasn't rebelled against the chantry and are possibly. I can't really say whether or not he left since I don't know how many templars actually rebelled

I'd also like them to expand on some of his actions in DA2. Was he aware of the rape/torture occurring in the Gallows? If so, did he do anything about it? If not, why not? I'd also like to know more about his past, prior to his time in the Ferelden Circle. Does he have a family? If not, what happened to them? Etc.

I would love to have him for a companion. I don't believe, given the events of DA2, that he'd blindly follow the Order if it directly conflicts with his principles or the Chantry. It will be interesting to see.

I am going to be honest, I don't want him to be because the recycled male human lead has already been tried by Anders, and I'd like someone fresh. I wouldn't exactly mind that much though, I guess, at least it would make the fangirls/boys happy. Based on the evidence I see it being very likely... Only time will tell.

I think David Gaider mentioned in an interview that they'd like to use him DA3 because he was a sympathetic templar.

I'm thinking this one is pretty likely.
