Well DA:O had 10, including Shale.

I believe the leak also suggested a 5 man party, which would logically suggest more characters in order to allow real choice.

Exactly

I'm fine with 10

10 companions is fine, it's the same as DA:O. And like DA:O I expect you won't have to take most of them along if you don't want. You might have a very specific party you take along every time, but remember....there are other people around who might well be consistently taking around a *different* party than yours, to suit their different preference and play style. Variety is the spice of life!

I would rather have less companions with more to say than 10 with a few one liners here and there. I also would like to see all companions appearing in cutscenes rather than them being 'off screen' someplace

You're absolutely right.

If there are 10 companions, I doubt we will see them all on the first day of release, in the vanilla version. I imagine we'd see one as a Day One DLC, then possibly one or two more as DLC later down the line, just like we did with other Bioware games.

So, if you take those numbers as around 7 or 8, that's exactly what DA:O had (depending on if you count Dog or not, and if you count Loghain as a companion, instead of just an Allistair replacement). This is also not including Shale, since she was a DLC Companion.

10 isn't that much. Well, its certainly not TOO much. Even if they don't go the DLC route with any of them.

Ten is good, as long as they give them enough depth and space for character development.

Yeah, 10 is fine. If 10 seems like too much, I'm sure some will be optional, so just don't recruit them. Problem solved!

10 seems a bit much I don't want a repeat of Mass Effect 2 where everything was about the characters and the main plot suffered as a result.

Where is it stated that there would be 10 companions ?

So maybe you get to take sides in the conflict. You get 5 companions if siding with templars, and a different 5 if siding with the mages? Just a thought.

It would be cool though to have some of the previous characters come back and join the party like they did in ME3.

The difference was that ME was a trilogy with the same protagonist.  DA always has a new protag.  Old LI companions don't work well with a new player character.

Are you kidding me, Bioware?  That's a bit too much.  It became a total chore and totally unenjoyable for me in Mass Effect 2 to recruit so many.  Why not decrease the number from 10 to 5 and that way it leaves more room to develop other aspects of the game.  Too much recruitment is very tedious quite frankly.

I guess you forgot that DAO had 10 companions.

Also, the way you recruit is nothing like in Mass Effect 2.
Here it's more integrated into the background and sometimes story, like in Mass Effect 1, while in Mass Effect 2 is nearly the entire game.

The leaked survey stuff I think.

Ten seems fine I guess. Just make sure they all get lots of dialogue.

Morrigan - Wynn - Zevran - Leliana - Oghren - Allistair - Sten - Shale.

This is what I hope they avoid, another repeat of ME2.  You're right, in all 3 DA games recruitment was more integrated into the background.

I hope most of the companions are new. Though I'm still waving a little flag for Charade Amell's inclusion.

Well, I didn't forget the Marbari dog. It's just that you don't you need interactions with it. :P But it's quite true, the dog is still a companion. So 9 companions. ( + Loghain )

This is really silly. We don't even know for sure there will be ten companions in the finished product and what little was shared in the survey about the possible companions was very limited. Besides, there is usually the option to reject most possible companions unless they are crucial to the story.

What makes you think you're going to have separate recruitment missions for them all like in ME2? You could easily find several companions in the same location, like Leliana and Sten in DA:O.

This. Not to mention you might be given the option to kill rather than recruit some companions ala Zevran
