10 is fine. They've done it before they can do it again.

The same. She isn't mage, warrior, rogue, or anything else. She is just a normal woman. What could she do among my companions ? What would she talk about ? Gamlen ? Seriously. This forum sometimes makes no sense.Welsh Inferno wrote...

I hope most of the companions are new. Though I'm still waving a little flag for Charade Amell's inclusion.
Whats with all this about Charade Amell? I'v seen plenty of people wanting her. Why? She didn't seem all that interesting to me..
Im just wondering.

DA2 had nine, but you only get to play with eight since your brother or sister is doomed to die.
So it appears eight companions has been the sweet spot in Dragon Age thus far.

Of course Dog counts. He's a full companion complete with party banter and everything.

She seems kind of roguey to me. And she apparently managed to pick up the Gem of Whatever somewhere, so she presumably has some sort of adventuring talent.
But I'm not particularly interested in her

Even a normal person can be a good thief. I did not feel she had a special talent or she could fight in any way whatsoever. If DAIII is an epic story ( which I hope ) we need strong companions, with interesting point of views. We will spend more than 30 hours with these characters, it had better be worth the beating.Wulfram wrote...

Yeah, but in BG's case (at least the first one), creating companions was about as easy as it gets: no significant character interactions, a short paragraph of backstory, a few generic one-liners and we were good to go. Companions become more difficult to implement when Bioware also attempts to implement party banter, full conversations, plot relevance, etc.
That said, I'm actually looking forward to a larger party. One of my greatest criticisms of ME1 is that we had such a small cast of characters.

But please put them all in one place - except your LI that moves to your house
A weekly poker game at the Hanged Man would have made things soo much easier on DA2!

She's a rogue, an archer judging by the bow on her back of memory serves. I mostly lock onto her for this because I want the only returning character companions to be minor characters in previous games or at least characters that weren't previously companions. Charade heads my short list from DA2Sylvianus wrote...

I think 10 companions are perfectly fine by me and I hope they feel more alive than in DAO.
more alive than in DAO? Blimey, what did you make of them in DA2, then
I'd want them more alive than DA2, DAO was pretty much spot on imo.

10 companions, all dwarves, none romanceable!
Thank you Bioware! You made my dreams come true!

And let's be fair, Dragon Age as an RPG has never had under seven companions in a major game so far, with the exception of Golems of Arggenak and Witch Hunt. Plus, many BioWare games have had huge parties. In fact the smallest RPG party they ever had was in Mass Effect 1 and depending on choices, Mass Effect 3. So is 10 really too much?
And for me personally, I would rather have a higher number...not because the companions would be personable/impersonable, but because the nature of this inqusitor position already has a sense of detachment, and the need for a large group. Something like a rotating amount seen in Baldur's Gate would be impressive, maybe not 25+, but perhaps 15 tops.
Still, ten is great. And hey, we may see a DLC character as bonus, like always.
