Magic originates from the Fade, the realm where spirits
dwell and humans, qunari, and elves visit when they dream. Mana is a
measurement of one's ability to channel energy from the Fade, and this
energy is expended in the practice of magic.
Fenris will say after entering fade that none of this is real
so its killing people just by convicing theyre souls that they are dead

Line one: sort of true.
Line two: true
Line three: close enough
Line four: true
Line five: true
Line six: huge jump in logic based on one comment by a warrior

warrior that used to be slave of powerfull mage in tevinter imperium "know your enemy"

apart from that using runes as source of power instead of fade will dont damage the Veil
but only Sandal knows how to use it

That is just crazy on the face of it.

Are you saying that when the rage demon in the Denerim Alienage orphanage burned the building down using magic, it wasn't really burnt? That it was all some type of illusion? Because even when the demon was destroyed, it didn't return back to some rosey state.

Magic conjures REAL fire. REAL lightning. REAL death. That you can use magic to blow a hole in a wall is proof enough it isn't some supernatural illusion, but a real force. Going into the Fade is the realm of dreams - of course nothing there is "real." That doesn't mean that the power drawn from the Fade and used in the real world isn't real.

Except he doesn't. He can't cast magic, he can't remember most of his time in tevinter, he can't even read books on the subject. All he understands is what they do, not how.

Your claim is simply false. Anders blew u a soulless building, remember?

he used LYRIUM mixed with sh*t( Sela Petrae)and drakestone
where is Fade? i didnt said magic is only about Fade
i said mages are using power from dreamworld

so your theory is that you will take fire from Fade and create its reflection in Thedas and then it becomes real.
1.that means everything in thedas is reflection of Fade?
so how can i start a fire in area where Veil is still strong?

I also would love spells that let us OPEN FREAKING LOCKED CHESTS. Uggg I can't stand the idea that Mages can blow people apart and shoot lighting from their hands but can't open a locked plain wooden box? Really?

Warriors should be able to just smash crates. Some would take more strength than others.

yes i think all classes should be able to open min.simple locks

While I'm not inherently against more magic.

I'd prefer existing concepts to be more developed (like glyphs).

Also - I'd prefer more time spent on a good story, not Michael Bay flashiness.

i have gathered more informations and
magic is energy that is drained from fade to manipulate Thedas
its like telekinetic energy which is then used for generating electricity, heat, etc.
so Fast Jimmy was right.and Rotward too.

I want more tactical and strategical magic as opposed to direct damage dealing.

Examples :-

1)  Illusion / fooling type spells.

Decoy spell, spells that blind a character that has vision (only works at night), disguise you & your party member as a people from another faction (spy cloak) for a short period of time. Would make for a great ambush tactic.

2) Trap spells

Runes, glyphs, wall spells (wall of ice..we saw it in demo)....It would be interesting to have spells that can summon roots or weave torn spider webs around you to make  temporary barrier of sorts.

3) Utility spells

Spells that can reveal hidden gold or a hidden trap (but the rogue must disarm them) ..sort of like tactical scanning. Also since we have dark caves now, it would be nice to have lighting spells too.

4)  Transmutation Spells

Spell that can change the hard soil in an area into quicksand, spells that can flash freeze water into ice (useful if we are fighting in rain...turn it into icy shards or can turn a watery area into a slippery one..or can use that temporary frozen area to commute...Spells that reduce iron and steel into rusted iron and steel..useful for fighting against armored enemies and reducing lock difficulty for rogues...I mean rusted locks are going to be easier to pick.

5) Summoning Spells / Command Spells

Command an animal or a certain tree nearby to your will..making it a temporary ally / summon one.  Also summoning spirits from the Fade (it should be easier now with the Veil Torn lol)..Like Rhys did in Asunder..use thewisp for recon and temporary surveillance.

6) Expanded Telekinetic Spells

Telekinesis can be used for more than just mind blasting. Maybe we can use it to levitate something big and throw it at a target

7) Disease & Poison Spells

Spells that induce certain types of sickness in targets. Can debilitate combat ability or cause them to puke or for boils to grow all over them....Obviously non humanoids will be immune but it would be an interesting way to use magic to make them biologically weaker..

8) More Curses & Hexes

Surprised people haven't mentioned this. I loved Entropy in DAO but in DA2 it was there, but not as good. We need moar.

I second that!

Necormancy is already covered by the Entropy  (curses) and Spirit (dead reanimation/spirit summoning) schools.

of course entrophy is death magic but i want something more evil than just sleep, horror or paralysis
something like deathray that will have 100% insta kill chance against normal enemies and penetrating throught them
or using souls of your enemies to regain mana or use them to build small army

Nature damage, anyone?

Of the 5 types of elemental damage (fire, cold, lightning, spirit, nature), it is the only one that doesn't have any spells associated with it.  I believe Merrill has some companion-unique spells that cause nature damage, but that's one companion.

Image IPBStonefist

Activated
Range: Medium
Activation: 30
Cooldown: 15s
Requires: 18 magic
The caster hurls a stone projectile that knocks down the target and inflicts nature damage, possibly shattering those that have been petrified or frozen solid. Friendly fire is possible.

problem?
but its dealing physical damage in DAII  /fail

I'd really love to see the mind manipulation of blood magic in conversations. We keep hearing how strong it is, why can't our blood mages do something like that?

Would be cool to have an option to use Blood Magic during dialogs if you're a Mage,to make it work like "persuasion",with success rate depending on the user and the person you're talking to.

Stone Fist actually deal physical damage in DA:O despite the description

Sting Swarm deal nature damage, and the only nature damage spell other than Morrigan shapeshifting

What about biting your lip, or the inside of your cheek? And when we have seen blood magic compulsion, like what Idunna did, she certainly didn't slit her wrists.

I don't even know how she used Blood Magic (no indication of cuts), we need clarification BW.

Come to think of it, it's just another ass-pull from BioWare so nvm.

Pasquale1234, you are so sweet talking about Nature damage ^^
Yes! I want more nature damage.:wizard:

Stinging SwarmIn Origins, this is the only mage spell capable of dealing nature damage - Stonefist and Walking Bomb state in-game that they deal Nature damage, but in reality deal Physical (Stonefist) or Spirit (Bomb) damage. In Awakening, the Keeper specialization allows for more Nature spells.

He's a mage, using power from the fade to blow up a building. Building is actually blown up, not an illusion of blowing up, therefor magic is not an illusion.

Btw, in DA, dreams are real. They're what you experience while in the fade.
