This whole civial war thing...

I did enjoy DA2 as well and played that a few times but not as many as DA:O. But I just honestly don't feel a game revolving around the civial war started in 2 is a great basis for a game. I know we don't have much info on this new game at the moment but what little info we do have is making me feel like it's heading in the wrong direction.

That way the developers won't have to make up for the game ending in completely opposite ways.

There's nothing more he could have done to top that in my opinion.
The civil war aspect intrigues me as it has the potential to be epic whilst retaining a certain level of the personal. We can heard individual stories as part of a much wider context, combining the epicness of DAO with the more intimate storytelling of DA2.
Don't know enough details to know whether it will be like that, but I'm hopeful.

I'm hoping that Thedas - not my character - is the unifying factor of the Dragon Age games.
I believe that the next game will be an invasion of the Tevinter Imperium - possibly and/or the Qunari into a weakened Fereldan, Orlais, etc.
We are going through the history of Thedas - and that history will have very different events occuring - I like this a LOT (even though I really disliked DA 2).

You forgot about the Dalish retaking The Dales or the Arlathan ForestMedhia Nox wrote...

I actually feel the opposite. Due to the morally grey situation and the prospect of Hawkes choices being relevant, I have high hopes. If they avoid making every victory feeling like a failure like that did it DA2, and throw in some awesome characters and an interesting story, then this has the potential to be the best Dragon Age title yet.Waydester wrote...
... I just don't feel it. A game based on civil war seems boring to me and way off the whole darkspawn DA:O story line that hooked a lot of people in. I really really wish you guys would stay with the warden, Morrigan, Flemeth and darkspawn, it was one of the best stories I've played and I played it a heap of times and loved the characters.

Of course, that's only if Bioware pulls it off. I won't lie and say that I don't have doubts. After all, DA2 was good but not great and the ending of ME3 felt like a slap to the face. But on the other hand, the rest of ME3 was one of the best gaming experiances I recall having, so there's is hope.

Now, look at Origins. Same deal. The darkspawn storyline was straight up LOTR. So, they throw in the civil war sub-plot. The difference is, it's actually pretty damn good thanks to the characters and talented voice acting.
Dragon Age 2....umm...wait. What, uh... what was the story again? Oh yes, I remember. The whole mage/templar thing. Oh, and the Qunari thing. Well, this was just ****ed up from the start. There wasn't a sub-plot or even a main storyline. It was just a mess.
Dragon Age 3. I'm guessing civil war (again) with the sub-plot being something to do with Morriagn and Flemeth. See? Doesn't that sound infinitely better than what Dragon Age 2 gave us? The difference this time is, the civil war will take the main stage. Of course, I could be wrong, but either way, I really don't see how they can screw this up.

The point is - the established power base that has kept Thedas "stable" is going to vanish. That leaves a vacuum - the next game(s) will deal with how that vacuum is filled, and by whom.
That's really interesting to me - unless they do more place holder games like DA 2.
I want historical epics... not forgettable blurbs.

I agree that the whole world of Thedas will change because of the war. It is going to be choas in future DA games/dlc

DA2, on the other hand, did not have a clear bad guy. You were given one side, with reasonable premises for their actions, and then you were given the other side, also with reasonable premises. (not gonna use Elthina's quote, but that's the situation.) You had to choose who the bad guy would be, if either. That is incredibly grown up, because in real life the bad guys don't have slits for noses and laugh creepily and turn women into bulbous demon-baby making machines. An no matter what you choose, you might be wrong. That is life.
To me, a civil war would be an extension of this, and people who say it's boring are just inexperienced with history. Look up any civil war and you have members of the same family on opposite sides, fighting each other, people they love. What makes them do that? I find the prospect interesting. And I would trust no other game company but Bioware to try to answer it.
