Me too. I just hope no one gets too upset knowing I am having her at the same time as others.

But don't you know, it BREAKS IMMERSION. You can't tell without meta gaming, BUT IT DOES. AND IT'S SO UNREALISTIC.

(I believe I have summarised all arguments we've heard so far...Image IPB)

I wonder what those people would say if we started complaining like they do.

I wonder if people reading books go through the same stuff. “I can’t finish this romance because someone somewhere is reading about my love interest.”

When I am in the story I don’t even hear my wife call for me. About the only thing that brings me out of it is when my daughter wakes.

None the less I know it is  not easy to write a character that satisfy the majority of players.

I already know my take on f/f relations is not what most players want. 2 years of building SD has not left me cynical, but certainly has not lessened my cynicism.

I'm a 20 year old guy and I have no problem playing females in games, though I do tend to play them as lesbian/bisexual. Just a little easier to get into my character's head that way, as I'm heterosexual.

Hence, F/F romances do matter to me. Though I'm unsure whether or not I'll play a female in the next game.

What I'd like is a female warrior, who is great in battle, wears the heavy armor, but when you meet her, maybe at first you can't even tell she's a woman, but then she takes her helmet off, and her long blonde hair flows down, and you can see her incredibly beautiful face....yeah, that's what I'd like in DA3. Personality wise, she'd be a good, normal human being, strong willed and determined to do the right thing, as well as protect her friends. She's not hostile to romance like Morrigan or Isabella, she's just never had time for such things in the past, plus she never met the 'right man', and didn't know until she met the Inquisitor that the 'right man' was actually a woman.

I'll third that. Sounds pretty good to me.

That would be insanely hot. Reminds me of this.

Also, and I know ^ will agree with me, but Julia Voth as a facial model for a F/F romance-available companion.

Weird = dumb."Awesome Experienced Male that kicked my ass", turned out to be a BE-A-YOU-TEE-FUL Woman, that isn't like those other women because she's not girly and crushes mens balls, but doesn't know her true worth and beauty until the pc's magical penis comes along and teaches her.
Just that in "lesbians are hot" way.
Aw. How cute.

From what I've heard Brienne of Tarth isn't supposed to be beautiful.
I would be more impressed if in fantasy she didn't have to be gorgeousl.
Reminds me of the criticism of Aveline. Rubs me the wrong way.

Well, its easy for Brienne to be the "not attractive" one. The medium she's in is books so there's no "have a player controlled character romance her" subplot.

Typically though in games if there's romances, the options available are aesthetically pleasing. I don't see the problem with it. Sure, its not required. The reason romance options are repeatedly made attractive is simple though-

In today's day and age, the first thing most people notice about someone is their physical appearance, not who they are as a person(I wish it were different).

If the romance options in games weren't physically attractive, I imagine not many players would romance them.

(I don't know why I feel compelled to post right now, HMM)

I can't speak for guys, but I know plenty of women who are attracted to "interesting" looking people, rather than those classically attractive.  I don't always get it (see:  Thom Yorke, Benedict Cumberbatch) but to each their own.  I think women who are attracted to other women are even more likely to find unconventional looks attractive, because they're often not interested in looking for what the media and society tells them they should like.

This doesn't mean I don't like pretty people, I do, but I know that I also find people who don't give a damn about being "sexy" or "cute" to be attractive, in their own way.

And Aveline had plenty of admirers, despite some people thinking she wasn't "hot."   I think she's lovely in her own way, and wouldn't mind a woman like her as a romance option this time around.

Even so, I'm sure her physical appearance was mentioned, based on the authors standard of attractiveness. If not, i'm impressed.
Anywho, I do not find vanilla icecream up there the least bit attractive. If Bioware were to make Ball-crushing warrior lady and used her face for it. Would it be fair if she wasn't attractive to me?
That's pretty much where that reasoning falls apart in my opinion. Since not everyone will find whatshis/herface attractive. Still tap that heavily armored booty though.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/cool.png[/smilie]

But Bioware's been pretty good with that. But if you want pretty blonde ladies...they are all over the internet. I'm sure if you paid enough they would put on armor for yah. Or just...watch an anime if you're really desperate.

To clarify i'm not snarkin' at you.

while looks matter personality is more important should be (in some way) charming or intriguing *or otherwise endearing...)...ultimately it's the "complete package" that matters so listing specific individual qualities doesn't work for me

Strong enough to compete with and defeat the male warriors, but also beautiful, with long-flowing hair?

An elite all female warrior order with the charisma to die for... quite literally. ^_<

I wish Bioware could make such a strong, relentless yet seductively charming character.

I liked them/that show.

But my ony major problem with it was how sparkling clean everyone/everything seemed to be all the time. So yes to that so long as it isn't 'perfect'.

improbable, but so are mages
And just because you're unlikely to meet such a person in real life does not make it weird to fantasize about them.
personal fantasies are fantasies and should not be excessively restricted by reality.

You do realize you are describing a woman that has probably got a very slender face a large chest but aa breasts and fairly thick thighs?

What you say is true, but the eye of the beholder is also in play. Doing the clubs and meeting Aveline I would have been impressed. I think the ideal character to romance is a myth. We all make adjustments to our requirements based on what is available. That thing, “even if you were the last person on earth”, is probably not true. The 3 things we all have most in common is the need to eat, sleep and have sex.

I think attempting to gender a particular fantasy, image or archetype is, at best, rather pointless. Many factors can be at play in interpretation, portrayal and reception. Pretending otherwise is reductive.

And I'll be damned if I'm going to let anyone else dictate what I am or am not permitted to find attractive.
