Seeing so many out there making great characters like Isabela fair-skinned made me sad.

I agree. Isabela is beautiful! Why would anyone want to change her?

Thirded. Nothing short of unadulterated racism going on there.

i wouldn't worry to much about that with us we love carmen as much as shane and I love  izzy more then lilly so we are good

I am in no way trying to call you guys out specifically for it, but I am asking that you consider what it is you're doing/endorsing if you download and use those types of mods. I would start my own topic, but I'm way too tired to deal with all of the trolling and crap right now, and it would probably end up locked anyway. I have faith that you guys will listen and not troll! :)

Not to worry, I agree with you on this. I'm not a fan of mods that change companion appearance at the best of times, but when I first learned of the Isabela ethnicity mods, they literally made me feel sick inside. That doesn't happen very often. Isabela looks "better" because she's white and pale instead of dark and ethnic? Bite me.

Anyway, to get back on topic of what we want to see in DA3 ... I love Merrill as a character. Unfortunately, I don't think she did much to make me feel empathy for the plight of Dalish. Why they are fighting to continue isolating themselves is something that's still a little foggy to me, and I'm hoping for a character who will explain that better.

I think it's told in elven history or background information more than what's shown on screen. Humans and elves cannot coexist (as far as the Dalish are concerned) because humans constantly assert their dominance over elves. From Tevinter Magisters conquering and enslaving Arlathan, to the Chantry conquering and converting the Dales, to modern templars constantly going after Dalish Keepers to stick in their Circles. (I think some DA2 codex entries reveal this is a problem for the Dalish in Sundermount.) Any time elves and humans interact with each other on a large scale, humans try to make elves live the way they want.

I mean, just look what's happened to the elves since contact with humans. Their culture is all but gone and humans still tell them how to live. In fact, the humans' "mercy" in the Dales consisted of "Live in our cities, serve our households, and worship our gods, or get out of our sight," and the Dalish chose to do the (EDIT) latter. Continued coexistence with humans has eroded almost all of the city elves' original culture, and modern city elves have to live how humans want--in servitude and poverty--lest they find their homes looted and burned at best

In order to avoid that fate, the Dalish feel they have to stay isolated lest the local humans attack them (which is a danger since human outnumber them. The fate of Velanna's clan illustrates pretty well what happens to Dalish clans who stray too close to human settlements. "They would rather burn down the forest than let us near their petty farms.") Or forcefully try to convert them, a la sticking their Keepers in Circles.

I'm sorry for the really long-winded response, but I hope it got the message across. I've talked about this extensively in other forums in the past, so I've always got an answer at the ready. <_<;

Second. I mean, if you want a fair skinned Izzy, like a dark skinned Anders,  then fine, whatever. But the whole bit with people being like "she's more attractive this way" and especially the "she wasn't supposed to be dark skinned, total retcon" (though I'm pretty sure Gaider said the marketing was erronous- she was made fair- and Isabela @ Pearl is totally dark skinned, if you check her .mor file) made me sad.....That kind of "beauty" is so "normalized" like heterosexuality *sigh*
Anyway, to get back on topic of what we want to see in DA3 ... I love Merrill as a character. Unfortunately, I don't think she did much to make me feel empathy for the plight of Dalish.

I understood the whole "isolation" thing, since I come from a culture that tends to do that does that with Americans and other perceived Western types (....rhythms with Malastinian.....) and their reasoning behind it. I guess you have to either be born into it, or talk to someone who lives it, to at least understand their point, even if you still diasgree.

I think the cross-culture thing would have been such a great touch with LIs that didn't happen as much in DAO and I would have thought (the King of Fereldan retains an elven/ dwarven/mage lover.....pass the smelling salts!). Leliana has her ignorant-about-elves bit, and Wynne can comment on the alienage, but I would have thought it would be there, but there are those pesky game limitations, because it is, you know, a game........

I think Merrill was great for conveying such an issue of a "not the same race or something and having a cutural issue with that" lover in DA2, I think you can have a bit with Fenris if he asks if his being an elf bothers you if you flirt with him, but since you are a default human, only 1/2 of the romance options are socially unacceptable (unless you count the possessed mage thing, but I'm thinking specifically race). Again, game mechanics, but it would be cool if they used your companions more in defining Thedas lore.

And good thing that it seems (lore wise) that homosexuality isn't really perceived as "bad," more "impratical," because that's another can of worms that will make me smash my head against many walls.

Doh, sorry, I'm not expressing myself very well today.

I understand how they became isolated from humans. I meant, what is motivating each clan to stay isolated from other Dalish? Are they afraid of a big push to exterminate them if they were to band together? Do they not have any confidence in their ability to fight back? Or just don't care anymore?

*shrug*
It's difficult for me to understand why a people so fiercely proud don't try to reunite the clans and make some progress.

But who knows, they could be plotting in secret to regain their immortality and dominate Thedas again. Maybe that's why Merrill's clan appeared to have allied themselves with Flemeth. :P

Does that mean I have to post an L Word gif now? Cause TBH I really hated that show.

How about this pic? The woman on the left looks like she could inflict some serious damage with that flambard. Plus, if looks could kill ...

ahhh...I didn't even get to break out my "more you know" star with rainbow tails (I mean, this IS a f/f thread...)

I think we are getting another lezzie rogue, that elf rogue companion (if the survey thing was a representation of our actual companions). However, I do still wish and pray to the DA Gods to send me a Nevarran/ Antivan/ Rivaini/ (some other dark skinned nationality) female warrior that could easily beat me in a wrestling match......

in bed *ba dum, quish* (or however the onamonapia works for that jokey drum roll bit)

That sure is a nice sword in that little video there, I would like to be able to present a really cool sword like that to at least one of the female LIs in the game, it would be a nice present, and look cool in battle as well. Not familiar with the girl on the left (and in the bigger, upper picture), but I know Ive seen the one on the right though, and would prefer her over the one on the left, if that were a choice.

On the left: Kahlan Amnell - Mother Confessor

On the right: Cara Mason - Mord'Sith

I would love to have a character that resembles either: both are strong, charismatic, gorgeous and can easily kick any ass.

Totally seconded...as long as they don't take both, cause if the two female LIs end up being anything like Cara and Kahlan I'll start shipping them and my poor PC ends up forever alone again...xD

As an example of someone I'd like to see as an LI, I really liked the character of Molly in episode 4 of The Walking Dead.

I think the way ME3 did it, where specific characters were gay, straight or bisexual, instead of the whole cast being bisexual or ambiguous, is the way to go.

I agree, although unlike ME3 they need to have all options have at least a reasonable amount of dialogue and options. Liara was given a lot more than the other characters (which personally was okay for me), but it is not fair on other players who are basically choosing the "wrong" person.

What I'd like is that if they are going to include romances (which no doubt they will), it'd be nice for them to go all out with it, not because I really want romances, but because half baked ideas are incredibly jarring for immersion. Like Skyrim's "marriage", which was so ridiculous and half a*sed that they may as well have not bothered with it.

Let's keep it on topic, please. This is a thread about character speculation not how the game should handle inclusion.
