What exactly is a "masculine sense of obligation and duty and protection?" Those sentiments/driving forces aren't related to gender. They're very much evident in Aveline.JadeCasino wrote...
How about a gentlemanly knight type character who doesn't give in and conforming to feminine ideals of thedas? A warrior who has a masculine sense of obligation and duty and protection, but it doesn't translate into male ego. Their personality could be playful and funny but not coy or manipulative
The F/F Romance thread: what would you like to see in the women love interest(s) for DA3's woman protagonist?

I don't like when two people in a relationship seem to genuinely get on one another's nerves... plus I know there's lots of Callisto love in this thread but dang I really did not like her *shot* xD She was a villain and I can't help not liking villains LOL
I really really like Xena and Gabrielle; I know that's the cliche and canon pairing, but I thought it was sweet....
I think my most "realistic" bet (or what I'd want for rivalmance) is someone who is initially antagonistic, but "gosh, she's a cutie" kinda takes over, and you grow to find the person as more "complex" than that thing you initially hated. (Thats the kind of antagonistic heandcanon I have going for Cassandra right now
Which is why Anders immeditely being into you never made sense.....maybe later on in the game, but not, like, two seconds after you say mages are evil or that his lover deserved being made tranquil. And I would think after you got a slave, Fenris would just end it right there, regardless of friendship/rivalry (like how Anders breaks up with you if you follow through with the demon possession of the half-elf kid, Feynriel?)

Wait, what? How's that even humanly possible? I mean, Callisto. I'm a gay boy and she still made me confused as hell. Callisto is sex on two legs. When she comes into town, husbands lock their wives up so they don't turn lesbian and run away.
Such a pity that Callisto thinks 'love' is just nature's way of tricking people into reproducing.
Wait.
Wanna give a big 'F*** you' to nature? Cause Cal, baby, we couldn't reproduce if we tried. *eyebrow wiggle*

As far as Cassandra goes, I'm still hoping the PC gets named Inquisitor by mistake.
I mean, imagine taking weeks or months to get Cass to warm up to you. And then she does and you think she might actually start to really like you and THEN you have to tell her/she finds out that you're not really the hero they all thought you were.
In the rivalmance, this could lead to her either breaking up with you or refusing to let any kind of intimacy into your relationship.
In the friendmance, she'd likely be angry for some time, but she'll accept your apology and you can move on, starting to fall in love.
Either way, that would make the romance a hell of a lot more interesting. (Not that Cass isn't very interesting to begin with...

I read the plot of Dawn of the Seeker, and that just made her even better in my book. Also gives me some background for my mage headcanon (because if you learn the plot, she's got some blood mage issues).

You know, the last bit makes me wonder. I've heard from gay guys who played as FemShep so they could romance Kaidan. Do you girls play as men sometimes just so that you can bang the ladies? Because I tend to care about the aesthetics of my hero a lot, and if there's no gay romance, I just ogle him. I guess it's about seeing the hero as a placeholder for you (so the rest matters more) or as a protagonist in a movie (so he or she matters more). Which one would it be for you?

mostly I would naver want to or actually play as a dude if i have I choice not to. it matters a great deal to me. but i have to romance morrigan so i'm making an exception. but my first run thought mostly my only run thought will be as a woman.
(edit: ps. yeah I love to oggle my PC that's is why it must be a woman. a man just dosn't cut it for me;))

Most of my playthroughs in Origins were as a male. I couldn't bring myself to really care about any of the LIs available to FemWarden and Morrgian...*sigh* Oh Morrigan, how you tormented my poor FemWarden's heart.
The thing is, in DA 2 I was utterly unable to play as a male, just like it didn't work in Mass Effect. That's because I did view Hawke and Shepard as 'movie characters' rather than a character I could create and shape myself. My Warden was...well, mine. He was handsome and sensible, willing to go above and beyond for friendship and love, but he also knew when to be hard and unforgiving. A true leader. In other words, he was a complete Gary-Stue. But I didn't mind, because he was mine and who cares how perfect he is?
But Hawke and Shepard were voiced and lost that 'MINE' feeling. I don't mind that, however. It just means that I can't feel sympathy or affection for a male PC.
As far as ogling my own character goes...it's exactly the other way round. I didn't ogle my Wardens (although I do tend to look at them a lot and be proud of what I've done in the CC), but I couldn't take my eyes off my FemHawke's swagger and swaying hips. And it's also very important to me that my PCs look good. I can't change my looks in real life, but I sure as hell can make my PCs sexy as hell.

I wouldn't use the word 'bang' but I did play through ME2 once as a man because I was bursting at the seams to see Miranda's romance play out.
I found it an incredibly depressing and self-defeating exercise. I'd never do it again.

Yeah, if I could force myself to play as a male character in any RPG that allows customization, ME2 for the Miranda romance would be the one. But I haven't done it, the last time I tried was way back when KOTOR1 came out, because I liked Bastila, so I tried to play a male Revan. I gave up half way through, partially because I kept imagining everything with a female hero, so that kind of defeated the point.
I'd *really* prefer a well written same sex romance, where the two female characters acknowledge each other's gender, than feel like I'm forcing myself to play a male character to get the same content. And I don't want to have to use mods to initiate romance, either, it annoys me that I have to use a workaround to get content.

Personally, I would hope she would do a different voice. Her "tough lady" voice is too well associated with FemShep for me to romance a character who sounds like her...she does do a good job with other types of voices, like Leah in Diablo 3, and Bastila (although I know people who don't like her faux British accent...I'm not an expert, by far). She even does Cinderella in Disney's direct to video movies, and I'd imagine she has to have some range for that...

I play as both genders to try out as many options as possible. But yeah, my Amnell Mage was made specifically to indulge me in Morrigan romance and I grew to like him a lot. My second non-canon Dude!Shep was made with Jack romance in mind.
When I play as a woman, I partially associate myself with the character, but still making her personality destinctive (well, at least in my head). In games like DA2 or Mass Effect series it's hard to relate to a character with already established background and the voice that is not even remotely close to my own. It is, as someone has pointed out earlier just like watching a movie with a lead you have hots for. ;P
