Hope not.

Oh, I really hope they do. I liked the friendmances but I liked some of the rivalmances, too. It was nice to "agree to disagree" and still care for somebody.

I hate the idea of rivalmances. They're entirely too fraught and sometimes abusive.

The idea of the Rivalmances, was not that the romance itself was a rivalry, but that the Protagonist and the LI disagreed on the LI's hot-button story arc topic.

It is considered the Slap-Slap-Kiss trope, where the protagonist and LI argue BECAUSE they love each other.

I hope Sera(or whatever the elf in that one tavern concept art is named) is available, she looks fun. We haven't really had a "fun" LI.

I think there is something to that. Even someone like Izzy, who is supposed to be defined by hedonism, brings a lot of baggage with her. It's a pity she didn't have a companion quest perhaps akin to 'The Long Road' by which I mean light on combat but heavy on incident to give you some idea of the glorious chaos which a night on the town with Isabela would involve.

My only concern would be that someone without any of that 'baggage' would feel inconsequential or like the ditzy comedy relief from a JRPG.

Well, there needs to be more to her than hedonism; sure, there might be some of that (and it might be a nice contrast to my likely intense/driven Inquisitor), but she does need to have a reasonably substantial character arc.

Hehe... Isabela and her "baggage" herheheeueuheuheuheuheuh.... *AHEM*

The first few times I played Da2, I didn't care for Isabela. I didn't think she was more than anything that what she seemed... you know, shallow, ****ty, etc... I didn't like her much and didn't know about her "baggage".

Playing again, now I love her character since I know so much more about her and she is one of my favorites.

My point is, characters can be done is such a way that they appear shallow, ditzy, but have more depth to them once you (Choose) to get to know them. That could be done for Sera I think.

This'd be nice... but you know she'd have legions of haters decrying her constantly on the BSN who didn't look deeper.

No different than Isabela or Morrigan then.

Truth is, no matter how well written a character is, someone is bound to hate her for some reason. Not that it matters to the writers anyway. Their job is to make us feel something towards their characters, whether it's love or hate. They're happy either way.

Maybe not, but they do make things tiresome.

I prefer it if she wasn't hedonistic at all and was just a fun person, like a combination of Alistair, Varic and Sarcastic Hawke.

I hope she is bisexual, so my male Inquisitor has a chance with her.

I see. So hedonism - the pursuit of pleasure - doesn't equate to fun.

But the two examples of characters who are fun (other than the player character) are both men. Including an awkward, sexually-repressed witch hunter.

I'm just curious as to your definition of 'fun'.

I just want the character to not be obsessed with having sex with everything that moves and constantly drinking. I chose Alistair as an examble because he was funny.

Oh sure. I mean, I get that. And humour is very much a subjective thing. A character one person finds funny will fall horribly flat for someone else.

I like a character who is relaxed in their own skin, who isn't an absurd prude and who has a holistic perspective on the world. So individual reaction accounts for a lot.

I agree. But there is still a tragic backstory.

I just think it would be really hard to make a character whose raison d'être is being 'fun' feel three dimensional without including an element which someone is going to choose to feel detracts from them being 'fun'.

Isabela was funny sometimes, Varric had some down points. merrill was cute and sweet but her Story could get depressing to almost no end. it would be Pretty hard to make a comic relief character interesting.
Wouldn't really want to romance someone whos just meant to be funny Ill love talking to them though. I think more jokes should just fall flat like Hawke wounded coast.:Dlighthearted and sweet characters dont really interest me so I would like the back story baggage.

I wonder what age the blonde elf lady is. Cassandra is apparently mid to late thirties, but with elves it's so hard to tell! Maybe the new elf design will help with that, lol.

Well, Sera looks rather young. Since elves live longer than humans (unless that's different in DA lore), she seems to be the elven equivalent of maybe 20 - 25 human years. At least that's what I would guess. If she's not a LI, she may even be younger. In any case, she seems like a brat. (And that is not meant negatively. She'd be perfect for my more stoic and ruthless Inquisitors.)

Elves have similar lifespans to humans and Dwarves in Dragon Age.

I thought from the survey leak it sounded like she was 17-19, although the concept art makes her look older. If she is an LI then I'd expect her to be mid to late twenties. I can't see a 15+ year age gap between the two female romance options. That is of course assuming Cassandra is an option (Which I hope). Then again Vivienne is probably at least thirty herself, so it would put into question Sera's LI status if anything.

I think elves used to live longer..but humans took it from them or something with seeping..Idk..
But elves always look younger to me in DA cause their smaller....but the dwarves dont look younger to me and their usally the shortest.
But Fun characters always seem to be written as younger and less jaded or something,

Morrigan, hopefully. I don't particularly like the other female companions announced thus far, and I don't even know of many, if any, male companions other than Varric. A companion with a Leliana-esque personality would be grand. Isabella, though funny, I don't like whatsoever in terms of personality.

I just hope Bioware doesn't go out of their way to "appease" LGBT activists by making F/F or M/M characters blatantly advertise their sexuality (IE "I'M A MAN AND I LIKE THIS MALE INQUISITOR MEANING I'M HOMOSEXUAL. I REPEAT, I AM HOMOSEXUAL.")

I support LGBT strongly, but damn, I can't stand when BSN people try to have their sexuality coddled and artificially "represented".
