I'm pretty sure Bioware have a good handle on why everyone disliked DA2 by now, and what everyone hopes to see in DA3, but I wanted to throw in something that I never see mentioned but which I thought contributed a lot to Origins: the beautiful GUI.
I guess a lot of people don't think it's particularly important, but for me (particularly on PC where all those animated blood transition effects and finely detailed inventory/codex etc menus really shined) it was unquestionably a huge aid to my immersion in the game.
Browsing the codex was a joy in Origins, and it might sound daft but I can't overstate how much more immersive and atmospheric a game can be when every time you click somewhere on the GUI you're rewarded with satisfying aural feedback and beautiful, high resolution atwork and animations consistent with the game's universe.
I don't know what they were thinking with DA2. The sound design for the GUI was nice, but I don't understand why they went for the bare bones 'website look' for the inventory and journal etc, it just doesn't aid the immersion at all.
Am I mad or does anyone know what I mean?

It was very important to me, and was among the things that initially turned me off to DA2. It looked like a UI from Mass Effect.
I like fantasy themed RPGs to have that medieval look to the UI.

I generally agree with you.
But Origins really went over the top with the blood stuff. DA2's loading screens were actually pretty good, and I preferred them to all the swooshy blood.
