Odds are, DA2 will have multiplayer. Here is my recommendation for having multiplayer in Dragon Age.
I'd want a separate story-based cooperative campaign or series of missions (can add more as DLC over time) with up to 4 players in a party. I'd recommend one person be designated as the leader of the party and make the conversation choices (or the companions all click the one they want and vote on it).
Halo 4 is doing a similar thing called Spartan Ops. I think a co-op party in DA2 wouldn't be a bad idea if done properly. It would allow for greater tactical depth with Dragon Age-style combat as well as the social aspect of playing a Dragon Age game with other people. And having co-op story missions running in tangent with the main campaign would be pretty awesome in terms of weaving an epic story together.

I must admit that I'm not THAT excited about multiplayer in the DA universe, but I guess it can be done in interesting ways. The Co-Up party sounds like something that could be fun, though I wouldn't mind fighting against one another either as Mage, Rogue or Warrior.

That would be my primary choice. I really don't want multiplayer in DA3. But if there had to be, my original post is the way I think it would be best.

+1. Read the leaked script info for ME3, look at the final product, and try to tell me that diverting resources from a narrative-driven experience to mindless killing was a good idea.Rawgrim wrote...

The fact that a different team did mp invalidates your claim.

You still have to pay the salaries of that separate team, and that's money that could have gone to pay the salaries of more developers for the single player game.

Dragon Age: Origins introduced the idea of massively multiple single player - the way you could share tales, etc. I would love to see them expand on this feature, possibly with some kind of Fable-like light interactivity (for those who want to connect with/track friends). That is the extent of the multiplayer that I would like. I'm not even all that big on co-op. The game doesn't really seem designed for it to work well...and honestly I wouldn't want it to be. I like the idea of sharing experiences and maybe being able to help out/visit other players in some small way.
Anything more would cross into Mass Effect territory for me - content that just takes away space, resources, and depth from the single-player. I don't want any kind of separate multiplayer. I want to play as much DA3 as I can, and that means as much single-player story as you can jam in the game.

Fable 3 is multiplayer as an optional setting. I don't see why it's a big deal if it's optional. Sometimes it's fun. Friends and I do multiplayer once in awhile. It's good fun when you're just hanging out and eating a pizza but don't feel like doing a typical fighter game or mariokart race.
