Ok, since it's early in development, I'll give you right away a suggestion that will prevent lots of whining about romances. Being hit on by men in DA:2 was not fun for many players, including me.

In real life, I have / had gay friends, men and women. The guys know that I'm hetero, so they will NEVER hit on me. And I would never hit on a female ****** friend. NPCs within games should reflect that too, it's instinctive and common sense. But since it is a game, how about making it a toggle where you can pick your prefered sexual orientation, and have the game behave accordingly ? A gay NPC can be gay all he wants, but if I picked the "I'm hetero" option, then he'll be intelligent enough to not hit on me.

Hope you consider this...

Not going to happen.

We are not going to support the viewpoint that same sex content is something to be avoided. I don't even know what the romances are going to be at this point, but I feel entirely comfortable in stating that, as always, the way to avoid that sort of content will be to tell a character 'I'm not interested'.

I can't say much about DA3, but I -can- tell you that this is not on the table, nor will it ever be.

And locking.

They have said numerous times that they are not going to waste their time pandering to people's insecurities.

I'm not gay either, but isn't this a Role-Playing game?
Your character can be gay, even if you aren't.
And if you're really uncomfortable with it? Then ignore it, the flirting isn't that bad. (Unless you got Zevran or Isabella around, but they'll screw anything.)

Actually, this is a very decent idea, but I think it should be expanded so that if you pick to be a homosexual male character, then you can romance -all- romanceable male characters, and the same if you are female. That way, the sexual orientation of the NPC's isnt dictated by story, but instead by player preference, which is something that annoyed ME3 players who wanted a male Shepard with Samantha Traynor but were incapable. Also, this would avoid homophobes from complaining, as they wouldn't have to see any homosexual content.
