Hi,

I have a question and a half :-)
What are the most important things BioWare has learned from the ME3 and DAII debacles, and how  do you think it will affect DAIII?

I am asking because I see in most press releases and public interaction these days BioWare are listening and taking feedback, but it'd be good if they could be backed up with some (generic) specifics - I am not asking for details from the current development cycle, but I am genuinely interested in hearing what can be shared about the last two releases' experiences, and how they may affect the coming release.

Thanks :)

<(-also,please, please dont let this devolve into a litany of what we all disliked ab the last two games, I think they're pretty innoculated and get glazed eye syndrome when we bring it up., Sad, but true. )

Yeah i'd like to hear about that to,it would be very interesting to see what has Bioware learned from its 'mistakes'.Tough i understand why DA2 wasn't as good as it prequel,9 months is not nearly enough to make a good game...rEApers forced them :(

Is it just me, or does the phrasing of this question cause flashbacks of high schoolers doing vocational projects? Gah.

If you want to ask *Mark Darrah* something, you know what you can do? Send him a Private Message. If you broadcast it, you know what you're not going to get a serious response. It's not like we can read Mark Darrah's mind for you. :P

I prefer to use the fora, I really do not see why I shouldn't, or let some forum weasel dictate how or where I ask a fairly normal question.

Don't like it? Gee, if you do not like a forum post, you know what you can do? Several options - ranging from ignoring it to sticking it.

Wow, rude much? You're really going to get a serious answer talking like this, aren't you? See, this is exactly the kind of attitude which stops open conversation from taking place.

Ok, so, let me get this straight:
I ask a question which I try to phrase inoffensively., I bump it. And get PsychoBlonde's response, which *I* found offensive, and answered in kind.//EDit for clarity:  You can ge generic about specifics, or vice versa,  despite them being polar opposites - think of  a description of gameplay, engine, stuff like that.

If you find something offensive, say so and calm the situation. You replied by calling PsychoBlonde a "forum weasel" and suggesting that he or she "stick it". Was that a helpful response?

As for your "funny phrase: You can actually be specific about generics, like gameplay, engine, stuff like that.

Since the words are pretty much opposite, I found the phrase amusing. Apologies.

Hope you get the answer you're looking for, I won't comment in this topic again.

I really don't think a helpful response was the thing here, but that's probably just me
I don't mind the funny - I even clarified it, I didn't have an issue w it.

This is exactly the reason why almost no-one believes Bioware is listening. They say they are listening, but they rarely back it up.

I sympathize with your need to ask this question, and would love to see a response from Darrah (or David Gaider). I doubt that an answer is forthcoming, and even if a response is actually posted that is isn't couched in further vagaries, anything that could be said on his/their end might reveal more that they've previously indicated that they prefer. So, sympathy notwithstanding, we can at least keep our fingers crossed that some snippets to tide us over will be in the offing in some forum.

@chuckwells:
Point taken - this is where I am coming from, and why I am asking:

I've mostly played shooters the last few years. I picked up DA:O on a whim, I'd not touched anything BioWare for a very long time, and got really sucked in. I bought ME1, ME2, and preordrered DAII on the strength of DA:O, and also picked up books and comics. Basically, I bought into the franchise and its spinoffs and was more than happy to spend money on it.

After the DAII debacle, I optimistically said, to a fellow player friend of mine "C'mon, man,it's Mass Effect. How can you eff up Mass Effect?" on preordering my ME3 CE. Well, apparently one CAN mess up ME...
So - the reason I am asking, and naively expect an answer, is that I see all the posts and reassurances, but not something which will invite me to spend the same amount of cash, or even think of preordering an item from Bioware, or even buying a release until I've looked at the fora and MetaCritic.

And for me it's more than messed up storylines, it's also the endless fetchquests, dumbing down, and environment recycles, stuff like that.

As long as I get a good baseline product, I have no issues buying DLC or franchise items. I love gaming and games, and have since I started playing Elite a very, very long time ago.
I do, however mind games being sold to me in the state ME3 and DAII were.

The day I posted, was in response to Darrah, who'd posted something on the fora. It made me wonder whether they/he, could tell us HOW Bioware had listened to its purchasing audience, by posting some of the experiences they've had, cause its been a bumpy ride the last two releases. Idle curiousity, no malice intended - not after State Secrets, just after some genuine feedback from the company on which I've already spent a lot of money, in case they'd like me to spend more money.

I think they would rather show you then tell you, as stated by Mr Darrah at one point I think (or at least one of the developers) but they aren't going to say we learnt this and that especially if the design will force them to change what direction they are going in and the forums will explode with 'YOUZ LIED' 'YOUZ SAID ...' so if Mr Darrah does not wish to answer your question, I think that this may be the answer.

Fair enough, but showing me tends to involve a cash or point exchange, and whilst I can appreciate th sentiment of showing us, rather than telling us, there is a middle ground here, no?
