Chris, I know you guys are sticking to the "show and tell" policy, but would it be out of order to ask what stage development's at? I know Mark said it's been on the go for 18 months (IIRC), but where does that take you? Are parts of the game playable?

Sorry. Absolutely no hints until Mark Darrah allows me to give them.

Aaryn Flynn tweeted that he was playing DA3 at lunch, sooo...

Edit: Messed up because posting with phone, had to change for PC :pinched:

How about now-ish?

Well before the official announcement of Dragon Age 3:Inquisition a lot of significant information was leaked. The information was used in product surveys to gather feedback on everything from the game's title to the companions. Inquisition was one of the options on the survey for the title, so that information is pretty much 100% confirmed.

***SPOILERS AHEAD! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!***

We got 2 product descriptions of the overall plot of DA3 from the surveys.
This was the first-

"The great nation of Orlais, the most powerful empire in Dragon Age, tears itself apart in civil war. The stout men and women of Ferelden struggle to recover and reclaim their nation from the horde of vile Darkspawn that lay waste to its lands a decade ago. The Chantry, the once-unified faith of the Dragon Age world stands divided. The Templar Order has broken away, claiming the church has become too lax in policing the dangerous powers of the mages. The mage Circles have rebelled, believing the Templars have become too strict, too zealous in their duties, and too quick to slaughter those who dare step out of line.
The World of Dragon Age is on the brink of collapse, and when a desperate gathering in the name of peace becomes the epicenter of a magical blast that decimates the Chantry's leadership, it becomes clear that someone or something is manipulating events to drive the world to chaos.
From the ashes of that explosion, something new arises- the Inquisition. As the Inquisitor, it falls to you to build your power and martial your forces, uncover secrets and build connections across the world. You must explore forgotten places, uncover ancient mysteries and uproot those who would destroy the delicate fabric of the world."

And this was the second, translated from German by a forumite here-

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hords of demons in the land, civil
wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is
behind the shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time
has come for the Inquisition.

Take the Inquisitor's cloak and
lead the only force able of bringing light into the darkness. Choose the
direct method and gather your armies, send spies into the shadows or
engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections
indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition. But you'll
have to take lead of it from the beginning. Make your player a rogue,
warrior or mage and set up your crew from up to ten (!) complex
companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically
spying on, revealing and destroying them."

And here are descriptions of several companions-

"Cole- A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death is dark place. And now, somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit or a demon? Is he human now? Cole is not sure it matters any more. Hounded by memories that aren't his own, invisible in a world he can stalk like a shadow, the rogue must decide between joining the living or preying upon them."

"Dorian-Dorian Pavus is a Tevinter magister. The title conjures fear of arcane master who once enslaved nations. Dorian may wield the power of the magisters, but he delights in not being what you would expect. Brazen and clever, this outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption."

"The Iron Bull- The Iron Bull is a long way from home, and he prefers it that way. A slap in the face of typically humorless Qunari(Kossith), he loves drinking, killing and looting- but not necessarily in that order. The head of a vicious mercenary company, he's known for excellent pay and brutal punishment. It's been a decade-long party, but the Bull may find that old loyalties die hard."

"Sera- Sera is young, frenetic, and a brat through and through. She revels in the athleticism of being an elf, of being different. But her culture isn't elven, or for that matter strictly human. It's the underbelly of the city in her network of rogues; what you do it more important than where you're from, and friends open more doors than titles. Robs from the rich to keep for herself."

Cullen, Cassandra and a Grey Warden are also listed as companions. Art of Cassandra and the Grey Warden was previously shown by Bioware to illustrate their new campanion customization system.

Concept art was also leaked, showing several of the companions listed and a few others.

The art can be viewed here-

http://www.flickr.co...s/87353155@N06/

These concepts were also listed as possible additions/focal points to DA3:Inquisition-

- online/co-op mode
- special finishing moves
- a lot of crucial decisions
- drama and suspense
- player-controlled day/night cycles
- better party management
- 4 companions at a time

Dude Ive seen most of this before but not the list of companions where did that come from?

now in a state of angsty vacillation...

can't decide whether to encourage them to keep taking their time and not telling us too much in advance (because i still cry about exalted march, the cancelation of which made me decide transparency was a road to tragedy), or just tell us what's going on already because i just can't take all of the crazy speculation that we're all dishing out on the forums! i go away for a few days on an MP announcement temper tantrum that very closely resembled my PR pout, and then i get THIS!

can't they just tell us everything and absolutely nothing at the same time?!

I'm happy to wait. I prefer BW to take as long as they need and make DA3 better than we can fathom.

I'd rather them take their time and make a great game...however, regular progress updates would be appreciated.

When times are uncertain, it is always important to return to your beginnings.

I went back and checked out some of the first posts here on the DA3 forums and found this little gem. LOL People in this thread were grumbling about a January reveal... LOL That is humorous indeed.

With Chris taking a backseat recently in the BSN's affairs, I was curious as to why there hasn't been named an "heir apparent" to be the voice to the forum? I understand his role has changed to being more of an events coordinator, but who is going to babysit things here on the BSN? After all, we've proven time and time again that we definitely need a babysitter.

I think it is a valid question at this point. If Bioware were going to report the reveal tomorrow for, say, May 5th (a random date I just made up), how would that be told? A Tweet, to be picked up in the DA Twitter thread?

If so, I find that a little lame.

I thought that Allan was more or less our babysitter currently, with maybe a little help from Blair Brown occasionally.

And it's not exactly "early this year" anymore. Boo.

If their early claims were true, that means almost three years of developing time for Dragon Age:Inquisition. And now we also heard that Patrick Weekes is on the writing team.
I might actually get hopeful about this game.

See, I use entering May as "mid," not early. If you were to divide the year into three sections, early would be January through April, Mid would be may through August, Late would be September through December.

Official date for reveal is May 5th: semi-confirmed rumor?

It makes me happy that we haven't heard anything it means there isn't anything to reveal for they are still working on the game, the longer we don't hear anything the more time they can put into the game itself and we don't have the "you lied to us because 'x' changed after you posted it nine months before launch".

Holy sh!t lawl Best I've seen was 4 years I think xD I guess it's not "illegal" to necro thread, since many moderators often response "thread is already exist" or so to new thread for old questions lol
Anyhow, May and June is coming, with several major gaming events so let's hope we will hear something there.

Oh, I don't have a problem with the silence, in and of itself.

It's only if they decide to stick with the Fall 2013 release date that I become really concerned. If Bioware tries to play chicken with Sony and Microsoft about who can make more splashes in the pool in 2013 with news, Bioware will lose every time this late in the game. If they do the reveal in a few months and it says a 2014 (or, heck, a 2015) release date, I won't be phased. But if they are keeping quiet and also wants to uphold the Fall 2013 release, then that is not going to end well for anyone.

But regardless, the other point of this necro was to ask "If not Priestly, then who?"

They would REALLY be missing their target release date if it got delayed to 2015.

I'm still hoping for a 2013 release, specifically in December because I have the whole month of January off from work. BUT Bioware seems to have a tradition of last minute delays so I won't be too dissapointed if I have to wait until early 2014.

I just want more Dragon Age!

Wow. Thats some information I had never heard of. Odd that all this came out so long ago and nothing anywhere near as detailed has come out since. Also interesting to hear that Cole might be a companion, never saw that coming. All sounds quite interesting and obviously things may change during development.
