Ok so many of you might remember that one of the complaints for Dragon Age 2 was that the written line on the dialogue wheel was often misleading as to what Hawk in game would say.

I was wondering, do we really need anything more than the icons for the dialogue tree? Can't we just choose between "kind" "joke" "rival" "persuade" "intimidate" and so on and so forth?

For investigation and questions I do think we need lines to help us decide what to ask and say, but for most conversation I feel like we only need to know the emotion of the response instead of what it will say. I think that not only could save Bioware time in writing, but also make the game more interactive because it would be a choice between icons we are very familiar with rather than new lines to read every few minutes. I think it could speed up dialogue while also making it easier to understand what Hawke is going to say. I also think that the time saved in writing all the lines could be devoted to writing more dialogue options. Like if you are a mage you have mage dialogue options, or if you are an elf than you have elf dialogue options. All of these would have an icon and perhaps the word "mage" or "elf" next to the response option.

What do you guys think of this? I know it could be a big change, but do you think it would be better or worse?
