Y'know, I do think it could be possible to do a CRPG without some juvenile brothel or strip club.

This one sounds nice and classy because the one I was thinking of with the word jewels in it was "The Dangling Jewels"

I'm no good with puns, but... 'De Flower Grove?'
And I'm thinking Ivanna Bumgardener for one of the prostitutes.

Opera house is a nice idea..if you're character is Little Lord Fauntleroy the Paladin. Grogner the Drunken doesn't want to listen to fat people bellow at each other in silly hats. He wants to get drunk and pay to chase slow running women. The more things to do the better, but given the time frame, a tavern/brothel should be around for the 'lower class' characters who like to mix bidness and pleasure.

Thanks! I'd laugh if the Brothel's name was "The Dangling Jewels." That's about as discreet as "The Bone Pit." Image IPB

And this is completely relevant to the discussion: If she's in DA3, who thinks Isabela will show up at the Brothel? Assuming there is one, of course.

If they do, I hope they include the joke options like the "Surprise Me" giving spoilers to famous movies ("It was his sled"). That was great.
I really don't want it to be all about the nudity or graphic displays of flesh, because seriously?! We are currently on the internet. If your looking for that sort of thing, it isn't that hard to find.

How very noble of you. Let's not risk aggrevating the prudes by including one of the most contextually appropriate features of all.

Heck, let's avoid using swords and wands in this game - they're so very immature and completely reek of nerdy teenage boys' bodily fluids. Plus, it's totally in right now to be a feminist hipster. Let's include glasses for armour, and iPhones for journals and quest logs. :D

On a serious note, I say bring on the dark, gritty, filthy, inapropriate, sexual, violent, fantasy world that makes sense and feels alive. It's inconsistent and babyish to include the knights in shiny armour but forget about the peasants in rags.

If the brothel's not for you or your character, then simply avoid it. It sure as heck will be the favourite hangout (provided they also serve the local brew nearby) of my character!

If the game's in Orlais, then it's very likely we'll see Val Royeaux.  And the city is supposed to be fairly large so why can't there be a tavern, a brothel, a theater, a market, a library, a bath house, a salon, etc?  The more buildings, the more we get to explore and the larger the game feels.  Removing one in favor of another shrinks the game.  Don't remove.  Add to.  Perhaps a thread can be started regarding locations you'd like to see added to the game such as a theater as has been suggested. Would be interesting to see what people come up with and may help Bioware expand the game more.

Those who don't want brothels need to look at history.  It's believed prostitution and hair dressing are the two oldest professions.  Image IPB  Someone had to do the prostitute's hair.  They've been around for centuries going back to even before ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.  Maybe they didn't have a set location then, but prostitution existed.  The game is for adults, not for children (or teens technically) so there should be adult references and content.  Otherwise, the game may as well be E for everyone.

My thoughts on a name for a brothel:
Valiant Rhododendron (playing with the VR from Val Royeaux, but avoiding Rose since that's been used)
Vibrant Azaleas
Dark Lily
Stolen Kiss
Le Sabre D'or (The Sword of Gold) Image IPB

If your big damn fantasy hero needs to pay for it, they're doing it wrong.

Anyway, there's always booze.

Hey... sometimes no matter how big hero you are, it's hard to get laid.

WOMEN ARE WAY SCARRIER THAN DRAGONS!

Since there's no way to not be crude in a thread like this (and I hope that there's some lenience because of that):

La **** **** -- direct and to the point

(Okay. That one word [that equates to two different words in English when used in that manner -- an interesting and slightly comical paradox IMHO] is not allowed. That's fine. There's a French song with that title [without La].)

Le jardin et la charrue -- not so direct, but the simile is unmistakable.
