@Ulfros I'm not saying that they should never be included. But I don't see the need for endless repitition - there are many ubiquitous aspects of life that are neglected, so having them seemingly included in prominent roles in every CRPG becomes tiresome.
The brothels of DA:O and DA2 are in no way dark or gritty. They're juvenile, sanitised and played for comedy, good for a little fanservice and a snigger. And frankly, it rather felt they were just repeating their jokes
DE:HR's treatment of prostitution was "dark and gritty", and was even used to explore the main themes of the game, even if I suspect there was an intended element of fanservice too. If Bioware wished to do similar, I would not complain.

yes, because nothing dark EVER happened at the Rose. (like hawke almost cutting her own throat at the behest of a blood mage who was planted in the brothel as part of a verrrrry sinister conspiracy.)
of course, if they're going to have brothels, we could do with a bit more of that, so...
