LOL.  If we do get well-intentioned extremist types in DA3, I hope they're better developed than the DA2 guys.  The Arishok and Meredith weren't bad, but it took some digging and a few replays for me to understand them or find them at all sympathetic.

WELL guys I think you're all forgetting Kai Leng who in my opinion was a brilliant and worthy complex foe who... AHAHAHA  no, sorry, couldn't even finish that sentence.

If you did finish that sentence, I might have to stab you and yell "That was for Thane!"

The saddest part is that Kai Leng could've been a fascinating villain, essentially a dark mirror of Shepard.  Alas, poor cereal-lover.  We hardly knew ye.

Please no. DA3 could do without a guy who randomly betrays his people and turns evil for no reason when an undead army from hell is marching on his lands. Loghain had no motivation for his actions other than being a douche. I expect the characters in DA3 to have a little more depth than that.

Edit:

That's not to say there shouldn't be some sort of rival character for the PC who fills a role similar to Loghain, just that they should actually be a well written character who has a reason for doing what they're doing.

If you dig into his back story the decisions he made make sense. Heck of a lot better than what we got in DA2 at any rate.

Loghain is one of my favorite videogame characters, so I hope for another "villain" with a strong personality to really drive things forward. Meredith and especially Orsino could have had that role in DA2, but they came too late, and did too little to have any real personality.

A character like Loghain would be amazing. A driven character that can be antagonistic as well as an asset to the player

We had a good supporting villain in DA2: the Arishok.

I liked the Arishok more than most of my companions in DA2.

Me too. It actually highlighted how badly done DA:2 was because for a game suppsidly about choice all I wanted to do was join the Qunari and slay all the weird looking & annoying elves and humans.

We definitly need a villain we can love to hate, not one which we just love. Loghain's betrayal, and the fact that he did this for the greater good, made him a great villian IMO.
