I want to talk about save imports... (DA:O spoilers)

Now hear me out. I don't mean 5 DA:O saves that can conflict and rage at the other saves or something of the like. I mean. In DA2 we could import a dead warden. but did so at the cost of any Orlesian wardens plot and vice versa. This kind of broke the ability of world customization within the full potential of the bounds originally there.
See. I wanted to make the sacrifice with my Dalish Elf, but i also want to play Awakening... But i want the Sacrifice to go into the DA world. So "what do?" you ask? How about this:
Enable selection of up to 3 import files. DA:O+GOA+WH, Awakening and DA2. At first i thought that the earlier saves in the series could take... dominance in relation to flags. But what if you, the player could also get to decide what takes presedence in flag conflicts? Did a Mage-Hawke run with an imported selfish Dwarf with Anora queen? You want that Hawke's canon coupled with Alistair and survived Loghain? Give priority to the DA:O save and you're go. Want to dictate wether the Architect lives, so his plot is in line with your Corypheus decision? Import that too.
I thought that at the very least, this would be a good way to up the customization potential of the world outside of what gets "bend" to fit the overall story. I don't see why my warden dying means no Orlesian warden, or why he/she has to be resurrected or Awakening to count.
Any thoughts on this?

Though there might be a workaround if it's too much trouble for BioWare. A DA2 file that contained the exact plot flags you want to import via save editor could work too.

With that you can quickly edit the flags you want set, working around all import bugs that exist now.

To expand on your idea, I was thinking giving importing players access to an official save generator that registers all previous installments you've played (Full Games, DLC, Expasions) like the one for Origins>DA2.

This would be great, and probably result in fewer bugs than just taking the save games, importing them all in DA3, and hoping it registers them correctly.

Sorry. But i disagree with this pessimistic "all or nothing damn you!" attitude. You obviously missed the point of them only disregarding your choises on SOME flags.Rawgrim wrote...
Its a good idea. Problem is: Alot of the choices you made in DAO got ignored in DA2, so...I am thinking of just ditching imports all together in future games. If I get retconned whenever i make a "bad choice" anyway.

They will probably do this, but every time we've seen this in games before, it was a simple'd down version that still required the old games to be played in order to take full effect. Just look at ME2 and 3. IMHO, importing will beat that out anytime. But Awakening is useless when you can't import the Orlesian AND a dead warden.Sable Rhapsody wrote...

If 1 or 2 gets disregarded, then they might as well do the same to all of them. Anders, Zevran and Leliana were all dead in my first import. Yet they just show up in DA2. Thats a pretty big deal. Especially Anders, since he started a war (no matter what I did).

I disagree and you just obviously demonstrated that you did indeed not get the point of them keeping the imports around. You ARE a kind of "all or nothing" baby. You really won't accept an icecream unless it was imported from Sahara...Rawgrim wrote...

I suppose they could do a limited pre-game variables configurator that incorporates the broad-stroke selections from prior games in the series, under this circumstance. Like that digital comic from Mass Effect.
