Isn't that too much cost for an RPG like this?

It is too expensive and unfeasible to have more than one VO per gender.

Tell me...

Would you rather a number of voices to be added as choices?

Or for that money to be allotted to many other customization option? Maybe even origins (voice acting costs a lot)?

How about... no voice for the protagonist at all, and spend that money on other content, like actual choices that matter? (yes please).

Otherwise, the only way I think that other optional voices would be possible, financily, is through DLC. Make a voicepack and release it for 10-15$ ? I still prefer a silent protagonist, but since Bioware doesn't appear to be moving in that direction, I would likely buy it as long as the rest of the game is good enough to replay it multiple times.

Seems a bit pointless to me. If they're going with a fixed protagonist then the might as well go with a fixed VA. I'd rather that personality was shown through our choices in conversation and not because we chose voice set Rogue 2.

Most cost effective way to do that would be to have one VA do the lines, then use some sort of audio software to change pitch, tone etc.

That's not to say it would be cost effective though,

BSN, you have apparently not learnt your lesson. You can either have a set, voiced protagionist with one set VA like Hawke/Shepard, or you can have one that's interchangable and flexible like the Warden.

But unless you want to fork out an extra $50, you can't have both.

Just... stop talking. You think the voice acting accounts for so much of the budget that adding a few extra protagonist options would increase the price by over 80%? Seriously, just stop.

Which platform do you play on? If its on the 360 would you mind the game being on more disks requiring more disk swapping? To me that is one of the reasons why I wouldn't want additional voices, for I really don't like swapping disks, I really wish Microsoft would let the first disk be used for verification for both if they are on the hard drive.

I like the voice slider idea, especially if Bioware uses the slider to create say 5 voices to choose from. It worked with the Pawns in Dragon's Dogma, and while they babbled all the time whilst wandering about, with none of them sounding particularly weird, just some deeper and some softer.

Personally, I don't think that Bioware would hire top voice talent and write dialogue designed around a voiced protagonist (back-and-forth vs. NPC "monologues"), and then give players the ability to butcher the dialogue scenes with muting or pitch/voice control.

As for multiple VA's, it's possible (it was used in The Old Republic), but even that resulted in a lot of repeated dialogue, so I'm guessing there is a tremendous amount of cost to having voice work as extensive as ME or DA 2.

I got used to it after the Mass Effect games and many others. Is it such a big deal to have to walk a few feet to your console to put in a new disk?
I'm reminded of an episode od Seinfeld. Elaine is on a tirade about having to shake beverages before drinking them...

I was being purposefully ridiculious, you arse.

It all really depends on how fleshed out we'd want the VA options to be. If we're going multiple origins again, let's say there's... 6 multiple origins again. Are we going to have one set VA for a dwarf, elf and human?

Or will we do what Origins did and have a choice of 5 different VAs per origin?

I'm down with it if they wanna do it, but it's not top of my priority, VAs can cost quite a bit, depending on whom you get to do the voice acting. I'd rather have multiple origins and a story that can be altered depending on those origins, than a fancy voiced character. I'd also rather have the budgetting going to VAs go to something more productive instead, like another arc in the story.

There's also the issue of allocated space. While that isn't much of an issue with today's technology, and for people who play on PCs (like me), I can't personally vouch for any of the PS3 or 360 users. ME3 was shorter than it could've been, but that still required most disk swapping than most people would've liked.

I didn't like male Hawke's voice. Not that the acting was bad, the character was believable and all, there just wasn't a line whose delivery made me want to relate to that voice, I guess it could have been more "neutral" a voice : more laidback, less macho, with more emphasis on emotion and less on attitude. But then again that's just my personal feeling... and we likely all have a different one. Given the amount of dialogue there should be just for the PC though, I doubt there'll be more than one female and one male VA.

I'd love to have a choice. Don't care how they do it - slider, or several VA... but for me, it's quite immersion breaking if my character in early 20s talks like 40 year old guy. I even prefer mute character than that.

I know this would require a lot of voice acting, but I think it's worth considering. It's certainly a degree of character customization that hasn't really been attempted in an SPRPG with a fully voiced PC.

The voice actors that Bioware contracts are generally top notch, but if customization is the name of the game, there's something to be said for allowing players to pick their character's voice.

wow that would be super expensive

i would rather have a good voice actor i don't think we need to have a choice about this
it takes up space and time that could be given to game play and things that matter much more

shepard and hawke work because of how well they were voiced sorry there is no need for more then one voice for male and female
