Hmm..Trees that don't look like pieces of a Lego set, diverse dragon models, greatswords that don't scream overcompensation, and opposing factions that are not exaggerated caricatures.

It doesn't have to be "open" like Skyrim. It can still be "open" enough. They've already done a few games that have done sandbox elements. BG2 and ME1 are good examples.

Personally, if they take the "open" feel and put it in DA3 keeping their great storytelling/characters...masterpiece.

It seems Bioware understands players want a lot of "choices" and "player agency". I think this is a big reason Skyrim sold over 12 million copies. It has an amazing world filled with unlimited possibilities. Bioware can learn a lot from this and I think this is where their design philosophies are heading.

Kingdoms of Amalur had the open feel and was still a fairly closed game. The way it was set up gave the open feel to it all. The fact that one can only walk on certain paths in DA2 and has some limited open spaces gives a closed environment feeling.

Am playing Two worlds 2 at the moment that works with the same principle, although closed the open feel is there. If something like that will be in DA3 that would be great Image IPB.

BW strong points are characters and storytelling and as Deuce wrote, if combinated with a more open world, this game could be a gem.

Hopefully none. The art direction in Skyrim was painfully generic.

Compared to DA2 it's the Mona Lisa. And it wouldn't hurt Bioware to open up their levels a bit.

It's a cheap shot considering you wanna compare a game that's got years of polish in level design [which after 175 hours starts looking the same anyway] with something that was made in roughly a year.

But hey, to each their own.

I actually want Dragon Age to distance itself from that. As much as I love Skyrim not every game should aspire to be like it. Though I would like more exploration and openness. Origins might have been pretty closed off but it still had some exploration.
I just want more Origins and less DA2 but I doubt it.

Indeed. You wouldn't believe how common of a problem that is.

Nothing I hope, Skyrim is a different type of game and is honestly not the best thing to gleam off of, since it is more of a sandbox dungeon crawler over anything else.

How to make the world more lively would probably be one thing.

Some of us assumed it would be the open world influence but I do not think this will be the case, I think Bioware would take influences of Skyrim's Dragons like Flemeth being a bit like Alduin.

I wouln't know what other influences they would take, do you?

Only one.

A toolset.

Similar open world environments like the cities and surrounding areas - While keeping the in depth story in these large areas.

I'm pretty sure the dev team is well aware that what people love about Dragon Age is the stories and characters, so I wouldn't worry about those taking a turn for the Skyrim.

But yeah, pretty sure they're taking inspiration from the world and level design. Hopefully that includes more active NPCs to populate it.

BioWare has never made sandbox games like Skyrim and I hope they skip to their strengths.  Just because BioWare makes linear games doesn't mean they can't have multiple, branching storylines though.

None. Skyrim was overhyped and painfully average.
