I'd really like to see characters who still have loose plot threads, if that makes any sense. XD Much as I like Oghren, I feel like his part of the story was (potentially) wrapped up nicely in Awakening. I haven't read Asunder yet (working towards ordering it), but I also feel as though Wynne's time has kind of come and gone.

But enough of that, characters I'd actually like to see return:

DAO:

Leliana - Well, she IS the right hand of the Divine. I'm curious to see how her role in the world has changed since Origins. Her brief appearances in DA2 generated a lot of speculation, but like with Morrigan, we're still a little lacking in answers.

Morrigan - 'Nough said, I think. I personally didn't do her ritual, but Morrigan's entire situation with Flemeth is interesting and mysterious. I'd love to see her again, hopefully accompanied by a few answers, but I won't hold my breath. XD

Zevran - He'd begun the process of taking over the Crows sometime between Awakening and DA2. It would be neat to see if he's made any more progress since then.

Flemeth - I love her and her cryptic ways. Dragon Age wouldn't be the same without her. Although, if Flemeth does remain integral to the story, I hope we get to see more of that 'Morrigan Army' we saw glimpses of in some of the promotional material for DA2.

Alistair - He's a weird one... As much as I like Alistair, I can't see his role continuing in a meaningful way unless he's made king... granted, that is speculation on my part. I have no idea what role the Warden's might play. Hesitant vote on this one

DA2

Merrill - THAT MIRROR IS STILL AROUND! I would really like to see this part of her story concluded in a more definitive way. Does she ever finish it? Does she give up? Does something else happen to it? Inquiring minds.

Anders - Very hesitant vote. I think a lot of people killed him in their games, but in the event that he did live to the end of your playthrough, it would be neat to follow up on the consequences of his actions in DA2.

Carver/Bethany - Might not see Hawke again, but having one of these two turn up in DA3 would be a neat salute!

As much as I like Fenris and Isabela, I kind of feel like their stories were tied up fittingly by the end of DA2. I wouldn't mind seeing them again, particularly where Izzy is concerned, but they're not at the top of my list.

Random people I'd like to see for no compelling reason (but would survive without):

Morrigan, Oghren, and who ever makes sense in the plot. Cameos for the sake of cameos usually suck.

- ... Hawke, I guess.. I didn't like DA2 much (at all) but Hawke is still an important character to the DA Universe, which makes him an interesting character still.
 - Varric, because he was actually pretty goddamn cool.
 - Oghren, a prominent Grey Warden by now perhaps? (If alive, can he die??)
 - Nathaniel (If alive, if Grey Warden) he was a pretty cool guy.
 - Teagan and Eamon, they're tough dudes.
 - AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I'd LOVE to see Loghain pick up the sword and broad and go for some patriotic Ferelden ownage (If alive)
 
That pretty much covered any1 with any importance to the DA universe from previous games (tell me if I missed some1 meeting that criteria)

NOT SURE:
 - Isabella (Is she of any importance? A cameo would actually fit her)

SPECIAL:
I'd LOVE to see our Inquisitor in some way get in contact with our Warden (if alive) perhaps? Or maybe Alistair (if alive), if none, then some1 else who knows Zevran and is alive, and Zevran could be a part of this ''send spies to your enemies'' thing that is hinted at in the description of DA3. That would be REALLY cool, make SENSE, and be a GOOD REASON to bring back a FAVOURITE companion, I'm sure many would agree.

Maybe a mission that surrounds the whereabouts of the warden and one that surrounds the whereabouts of hawke. The inquisitor could go search for them. That would be pretty cool.

I completely agree with this. Get rid of Bodahn and Sandal and put those two back instead.

Otherwise I'm fine with or without just about everyone else. I think Cullen and sibling Hawke could make an interesting companion based on the perspective they could offer.

Isabela could be the giver of quest to find the warden and hawke - or any other love interest, or could be used to steal important evidence of some sort.

I like aveline, sibling, fenris and sebastian and don't understand why all the death wishes. - If you don't like them, don't like them. I don't go around trying to get zevran murdered for no reason other than my dislike. <_<

As for shale, I just liked the bea arthur voice and manner, and sarcasm - wonderful, wonderful sarcasm!

 I want new characters for companions.  I don't care about cameos. 

The PC is going to be a new character, right?  I might have an opinion if it's the Champion that's returning.  I know they're not going to bring the warden back, sadly.

I know I'm gonna get some groans here, but I'd really, really like to see Sebastian. Just hear me out. With a story line centered on a mage/templar conflict, we could very well see him in cameo, and IMO, it wouldn't have to be shoehorned in. Either he stays with the Chantry or he vows to retake Starkhaven by the end of DA2. If the leaked info from a few weeks back is at all true, I could really see him allying himself with the Templars in either case, especially after his dearest Elthina was killed by a crazed mage.

Isabela (I'm sorry, I've never liked her character at ALL. But we keep seeing her in the comics so she's pretty much a given in some fashion, I'm afraid.)

I don't think we'll see either The Warden (if he/she survived) or Hawke, TBH. I think at most we might get (off-camera) secondhand info on their current whereabouts or fate. I can't imagine, after the poor translation of DA:O character models (Alistair, Zevran) into the DA2 graphical style that an attempt to port our personalized appearance settings from two separate games into yet another engine/artistic style would work at all. No, better to just leave them off-camera rather than go through cries of "what did the engine do to my Warden's/Hawke's face?!?"

But seriously. While the above is true, I'd also like to see Alistair again, although if he's king that may not be entirely feasible depending on where the bulk of the game takes place. Leliana is almost assured to show up again, given the game's title.

From DA2, the living Hawke sibling again, assuming they survived. Circle Mage or Templar or Warden, I think they'll have something to say about what's going on. Varric and Merrill as well.

Hopefully you can interact with them. Remember what happened with DA2 cameos.

I love Morrigan to death but...I don't want to see her again. I really really don't. For selfish reasons. I expect DA3 to be about my character...the protagonist. Not about Flemeth or Morrigan and their Grand Scheme. I'd like her to be there but..something like that is inevitable if she shows up.

I don't want to see any old characters unless they have a central role in the story being told. Unless we're playing as an old PC like the Warden or Hawke, new player character = new companions and NPCs. I don't need any more pointless cameos with characters saying a catchphrase, winking at the camera and leaving.

Well, since the thread I posted this in was redirected here I'll post my thoughts in this thread.

I'd like to see previous companions if the companions are presented in a different way and we get a fresh perspective on the characters looking at them through another protagonists eyes.

For example, I think a much better use for Lelliana in DA2 would have been to have an "origin story" in Lotherine at the start of the game. We could have been introduced to Lelliana (as she was at the Lothering Chantry at that time) and Hawke could have had some kind of relationship with her (either friends, Hawke has a crush on her, Carter could have had a crush on her, etc. etc.). Then when they meet again in Kirkwall the conversation between the two characters could be one of "look how far we've come" rather than "OMG, you're THE Lellianna who traveled with the Warden, can I have your autograph!!" The warden may never have needed to come up in the conversation.

Well, I guess it's still better than Isabella introducing herself by telling you that she ****ed the Warden.
