Do you think the looks of your Warden/Hawke is more important than a potentially important role they potentially could have in DA3?

I never understood that :/ Btw that's a serious question ^.

I didn't mean to imply that I don't want to see the Warden or Hawke play a part in DA3 at all. I'd love to see BW bring our Warden or Hawke into DA3 in a meaningful way, not just as appeasement to the fans. Preserving the fantasy that we have created for ourselves with regards to our Wardens and Hawkes is critical if those characters are brought back. Getting the appearance right is an undeniably large part of doing that.

Consider this: there are multiple discussions here and on other DA fan forums over what it would be like if the Warden shows up in a future game and actually speaks. Much unhappiness generally ensues, and that's just over the voice. Imagine if they 'Alistair'd' a saved Warden or Hawke. Those GameFly commercials where people pitch their TV's out the window comes to mind.

I think an off-screen resolution would be the safer route for BW to take, considering how much they have on the line here with DA3's fan reception. There is simply too much risk in trying to import saved PC's in anything less than another PC role. I'd love it if they could make it work, but I'd rather they put the energy into new ideas/characters.

That said, this person has a great idea...and they take personality into account, which is another major factor that I don't think enough people have considered in this debate. (Personally, I think PC personality is very likely the biggest factor in why we are unlikely to see our Wardens/Hawkes come back.)

All that would need to be done (if direct importing isn't available) is to allow for customising Hawke's appearance before the game begins. The same incidentally could be done for The Warden from Origins, and damn it would be awesome to have both of them appear in this next game.

Hawke (and the Warden) would then be voiced and act just like any other NPC. It would be even more impressive if the game carried over (or you get to choose) whether your Hawke had a "Honourable/Sarcastic/Aggressive" personality and have that vary in the dialogue and performances from the character. Understandably, that might take a lot of time and resources that aren't available though.

I dig this idea. It really would give back that element of control to players who are afraid their PC Warden/Hawke might get borked by a new engine. To take this idea a step further, BW could do this rather easily with a standalone character creator/editor, much like the Sims 3 Create-a-Sim that was available prior to the base game's release. Then when the player selects their saved game to import, all that would have to pull in would be the choices. An editor like this could be used for the new PC as well. Releasing a tool like this, say, 2-3 weeks prior to the actual game could do a LOT to hype people up and drive pre-order and release-date purchases. It would also get people playing the game right away on the release date. Prebuild your PC and have it appear as you like through the whole game, including the intro. Boom. Instant immersion.

That idead rocks! Not only allows you to tweak your own PC but allows talented users to put out pretty PCs for us clunky modders born with 2 left hands :P

I'd love to have Anders and Hawke show up, plus some cameos from Varric, Merril, Fenris, Isabela, Alistair..

Sir Pouncealot, Shale, Flemeth and headless undead Leilana.

Or an evil zombified Leilana with a stiched on head. With the stiches reading "continuity" if you look really close.

But other than that, I enjoyed most of DA's and DA2's characters. But seriously how could they leave out Oghren from DA2? He's the one that made Awakening tolerable!

But I'm glad that Anders won't be in my DA3 carryover, in my opinion his character was a disappointing departure from Awakening he was my least liked of my squadmates in DA2.

For characters, all of them.
The ones I hate I get to kill and watch them die in agonizing death: I am talking to you stupid Templar who I had to have Morigan threaten to get across the lake. And also all you murdering mercenaries and such that I couldn't kill for you under the protection of a charcter I like.
The ones I like, they will be protected and live on until the next dragon age game, assuming they live that old for I like to see the next one take place 30 years later (reason being, best time to create a new one after many years past a conflict).

Dragon Age Origins

*Sten -- Not the actual Sten we know (unless Sten suddenly becomes his personal name) but rather a Sten who has a similar purpose but in this case more precise.  Sten is to gather information on personages (their skills and vulnerabilities), land contours and defensive vulnerabilties, and social trends that could be used to Qun advantage in Orlais (and if travel goes to Tevinter, he will "have business elsewhere").

* Leliana -- Always thought this girl should die a soft, easy death.  However I do think she should die.  No actual hard feelings towards her, nothing personal, she's just an awful storyteller and stupid as a stone.  I'd like to see her though simply because I adore the voice actress Corinne Kempa.  I suspect Leliana might be a bit of a foil to the main character, an adversary or perhaps the one the main character reports to.

* Bodahn and Sandal -- Probably should work in tandem with Harren and Wade.  Might establish trading outposts and running messengers, maybe a cursory bank even?  Regardless, the two probably work for an Emperor now and would be his representative.  The idea of them managing an Imperial Bank (with runic protection) appeals to me.

* Jowan -- should he survive with his freedom, I'd love to see him as an Imperial Magister.

* Lily -- soft spot for Lily.  hopefully a potential romance for an NPC?  She should also be in Tevinter!

* "Viscount (?) Foreshadow" -- unless he's pissed at me for some reason

* The begging female Blood Mage in the Ferelden Circle Tower -- unless she's slain, she should be of Tevinter now, perhaps part of a strike team to rescue mages from an Orlesian Circle.

* Bella of Redcliffe -- unless she became a ghoul.

* Bevin of Redcliffe -- should he be of adventuring age yet unless he died.

* Arlessa Isolde -- vacationing to Orlais with military information from Ferelden unless she's dead; primarily a diplomat though.

* Mithra -- relaying promises of assistance to an Orlesian elf rebellion coeterie unless the elves were killed.

* Rhyming Child from Haven -- should he have escaped destruction, might depend on if Genitivi wasn't killed; he might arrange for the child's adoption by the Chantry and soon afterwards the Circle of Magi -- where he manages to escape and follow Dagna  who seeks to further her study of magic -- and Darkspawn -- in Orlais and Tevinter.  This presumes Dagna was in the mage tower after the quest An Unlikely Scholar transpires (or doesn't).

* Dagna -- if she manages to end up in the mage tower, she travels to first Orlais to speak with a notable mage who studied at White Spire in Neverra and to search for informations about phylacteries especially those that seem to contain accursed spirits as perhaps being key to links between lyrium, the fade, and arch-demons.  Her suspicion is that spirits can mistake living and enchanted blood for a person and so possess it; should this be so then possessed darkspawn might also think a phylactery of arch-demon blood is an arch-demon.  This could serve as distractions and delay future blights.  Furthermore, she wishes to travel to Tevinter so she might have more solid evidence.  Should the Rhyming Child from Haven and Gevinti have survived, the child will accompany her, having escaped from Ferelden and she will hide his presence capably and with great ingenuity.

* Zerlinda from Dust Town -- If she was directed to the Surface by the Warden -- she might have been useless to anyone in Ferelden as she's a mining caste lady.  This would reduce her to the self-same state she would've been in in Dust Town.  She might be in Orlais as a servant, bossing around elven slaves because she is desperate but is becoming meaner as time passes.

* Erlina -- All along, she was an elven spy for Orlais; both Cailan and Anora knew of this in their turn.  Arl Eamon and of course Arlessa Isolde also were privy to Erlina's presence but perhaps not to her identity.  Ostensibly her job was to ensure safety and secrecy of messages between Ferelden and Orlais.

* Sanga -- Has become so wealthy she opens up another Brothel in Orlais -- which is frequented by spies from both Orlais and Denerim as a place to broker deals so less lives among agents are lost and the "game" isn't quite so lethal -- of course this situation could catch aflame quite swiftly.

* Isabella -- Her interests seem to be edging towards privateering in a political sense although she isn't patriotic and would pick her missions carefully.  She could get herself in a great deal of trouble.  It's probable that she is already in trouble.  If she's not executed by the Qun, she might be embroiled in anti-Qunari activism (and not quite so charming as she had been).

Dragon Age Origins Awakening

*  Herren and Wade -- of course they'd be around, hopefully working for Bodahn in perfecting vaults and protective measures for the Imperial Bank.

*  Anders -- possibly on his way to White Spire to destroy his phylactery (if he wasn't stabbed to death).

*  Sigrun -- should peace be made with the Architect, regardless of her feelings for the peace, there's not enough Darkspawn to fight in the Deep Roads local to Orzammar.  Sigrun would be looking for Darkspawn in Tevinter and so she might indeed find doughty foes.  Or perhaps she'd be in the Abyss... which is an excellent place to find darkspawn or so I've read.

* Private at Vigil's Keep -- she is dutiful and should probably make an appearance along with a Grey Warden envoy -- or in leadership of an envoy -- to the Wardens in Orlais.

* Nida -- wanted to join the Grey Wardens.  The man she's involved with (might be the dead man found on a rope in the Knotwood Hills) was probably innocuous and unaffiliated with any situation of depth.  Nida on the other hand may just join the Wardens and be assigned to marching into Orlais on envoy to ask after the situation in the Abyssal Rift.  They suspect The Architect may be making moves into that area and they wish to investigate.  If the Architect is possessed, the Wardens might need to exercise immediate warfare upon his darkspawn forces.

* Amelia and Matthias -- presuming she survived kitty (or was possessed) she should go somewhere and do something with herself and possibly be accompanied by her father.

* Felix de Grosbois -- I do hope he made it back to Orlais and some measure of safety.  He might be a beggar or member of the Chantry now.

* The Chanter Board Girl from Amaranthine -- She is delicious.

Dragon Age II

Of course Isabella (as previously mentioned)

* Cassandra Pentaghast -- Not fond of her but I'd like to see her appear if only to kick her to death.

* Varric -- I think his inclusion sensible if only as someone to rescue or to assist in his escape from Orlais.

* Tallis -- She's popular enough.  So let's bring her back?  Assign her a role as a proctor and sniper for Qun spies.  If someone gets too close to their "bees wax" (an old Qun term for The Game), Tallis takes out the suspicious person and makes it look like Templar, Mage, or criminal action (for money or spite, say).  Tallis will hide from anyone she's met before if she can manage to or claim that she's coming back from a job in Tevinter and "resting" (which should seem normal to anyone unfamiliar with the way of Qun).

*The Robber -- The one your mabari chased into a closet.

 Who I want to return:
-Carver. My favorite of the siblings. I really like his surliness and hope he matured during his time in the Grey Wardens. Keeping my hopes very low, though.
-Nathaniel. In my headcanon he and Carver are bros.
-Isabela. My canon DA2 romance.
-Morrigan. Canon DA:O romance and hopefully important to events.
-Leliana. Probably a given because of the game's title. Secondary canon romance.
-Varric. Someone needs to tell the story.
-Alistair. King of Ferelden in every one of my games.
-Sten. Needs more badass Qunari.
-Velanna. Liked her ****iness. Not expecting anything though.
-Sigrun. Needs female dwarf in general. Probably dead according to epilogue, though.
-Shale. Who else is going to carry my inventory?

Iffy about returning:
-Aveline. I like her, but don't think she's very important.
-Zevran. Cameo for the sake of cameo in DA2. Worried about the same thing happening again.
-Wynne. Feel like she's just sort of done.
-Bethany. She's okay, but never did much for me.

Don't want to return:
-Fenris. Go angst somewhere else.
-Merrill. Go away you crazy blood mage.
-Anders. Go away you insane terrorist.
-Sebastian. Too self-righteous/religious for me.
-Oghren. Too stereotypically dwarven. Tired of him by the time Awakening was over.
-Tallis. Horrible.

I'd like to see some characters who I think can relate to the main story somehow.
- Carver/Bethany: Unlikely, but I'd like to see more of them, especially seeing as I think they'd be tied to the plot regardless of whether they are Circle/Templar, or Wardens. Even more so if Hawke has a cameo. In fact, if Carver/Beth has a cameo, Hawke being referenced would be lovely, and vice versa if Hawke has a cameo. Charade wouldn't be bad as an alternative.
-Awakening Wardens: If the Wardens have something important to do this time (there are hints, after all), then seeing Sigrun and Nathaniel again would be marvellous. Even the presence of Oghren and Velanna wouldn't be too bad. Loghain/Alistair would be interesting too as Wardens.
-Morrigan and Flemeth. That business with the OGB and Eluvians and Flemeth's true nature all seems a little unresolved.
-Shale. According to Asunder, she's already in the eye of the storm, as far as the mage-templar war is concerned.
-References to Alistair/Anora as the ruler of Ferelden.
-Unlikely to see the Warden, but references would be good.
-Cole (from Asunder). Far too interesting a character not to be involved somehow.
-Fiona (according to Asunder, she seems like she'll be important in the war).
-Corypheus, and the Architect (if it's alive). Marvellous antagonists, and I suspect Corypheus might have an interesting role.

Characters I don't want to see are few, because some I don't like I still don't mind seeing (like Velanna and Oghren, if they're on Warden business). But mostly, I hope Leliana isn't in the party again. If she's just in the story, it won't be so bad, but please, not a companion.

I've recently come to really like the idea of having former LI's from Origins, in particular Leliana, return as potential LI's for the new protagonist.

I think it would set up a real interesting paradigm where we can see how favorite characters have reacted to the Warden's "disappearance" and how they have or have not moved on with their lives.

You could even have an angle of romantic competition between current and former player characters come into play and/or give the player a sense of either living in the shadow of another or rising above his predecessors.

Wow I am in a minority here.

Return in some form. They don't have to be companions. I would actually like original companions this time around. But we haven't had Cassey as a companion yet, might be fun!
1. Leliana
2. Cassandra
3. Morgan
4. Varric
5. Oghren

Not Return
1. Everyone else. Especially Isabella. She has had her way with/and disease with every known person in the world, yet everyone still wants her. Yuck. Keep your @#%@% !$%$ @$#% lol. I don't want her.

-Morrigan - hell yeah! Try to finish her plot this time, especially with 'the child' thing

-Leliana - try to make her more trailer-like (yes, a snow mountain, dragon thing), and less crying, fragile. She deserves better!

-Zevran - no. Boooooring!

-Alistair - make him a man for once, than yes.

-Isabela - hell yeah! Who dosen't like a woman who like sex? Try to make her deeper, though.

-Oghren - hell yeah

-Merrill - hell yeah

-Anders - little yes

-Wynne - booooooring! Old lady with only one topic "Oh, I am so old" isn't interesting
